So it's coming up quite soon now(sunday and monday), what boardsers will be attending?
I assume they will be playing a lot of their new stuff...but if they don't play piazza, new york catcher...there will be war. :)
Quite looking forward to this weekend!

I'm desperately hoping to get a pair of tickets. I was led to believe I'd be getting them for Christmas but they never materialised and by the time I went looking, they were sold out.

Anything they play would be fine with me though, just hope they don't forget their EP stuff like Photo Jenny and Lazy Line Painter Jane. I think I'm probably the only B&S fan that would like to hear Beyond the Sunrise - that song is so underated, misunderstood and hated.

    Jimeatsmenu likes it.

Doubt they'll play that much from the new album. I'd say 6 songs from it at the most. I don't really mind what they play though. I'm just hoping for two good long gigs.

Oh btw, do you know who are supporting them and what are they like?

Yeah I'm going too, the tour opens tonight so we should have an idea of the setlist tomorrow hopefully. I suppose they have a lot of songs to draw from so its could be anything!
Brakes are supporting, they come highly recommended (not by me though, i didn't get a chance to hear their stuff yet), their singer was keyboard player in British Sea Power, he only left BSP about 2 weeks ago. Their drummer is in Electric Soft Parade.

I think they are the kind of band they could play songs i'd never heard of and i'd still enjoy it! I've been listening to most of their albums all week, god they are so damn good, i've been wanting to see them for years....

I'm fairly certain I would enjoy that!

apparently they took an audience request last night, so you just got to do a bit of shouting at the gig!!

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 60,119 Mod ✭✭✭✭Tar.Aldarion

Ok then, I'll be the fool shouting at them. :)
I'm sure my two mates will help out too. Also, you should shout my request. (:

looking forward to sunday. Itll be my first time seeing them. Theres nothing like seeing a band you love for the first time.

Excellent gig. Very good mix of songs. And even the new songs sounded brilliant. The stand out songs for me would be...

    Your Cover's Blown
    Electric Renaissance
There's Too Much Love (really glad they played this)
    Johnathon David
    I Fought In A War
If You Find Yourself Caught In Love
    I'm A Cookoo

...to mention a few. Would like to have heard more from Arab Strap. But was most pleased with the set and the performance. Tomorrow's should be good. Hoping the set varies a little...

I'm of the exact opposite opinion. I thought it was a big steaming pile of ****e. Expecially after seeing Clap Your Hands on Friday.
They were just so embarrisingly twee. The setlist was complete tripe. Not a single song from If Your Felling Sinister or Lazy Line, TIJAMRS etc.
So disapointing, and they are my fav band too. Stuart doesn'y half talk a load of bollocks.
I wish I hadn't gone to this one and left myself with the memory of the Olypia gig a few years ago.

No way - This was much better than the Olympia gig!
Stand out for me was 'dog on wheels' - was expecting the set to be stuff from the 2 most recent zzz albums but it was a great mix!
Am tempted to try go again on Monday - imagine the setlist will be fairly different?

They didn't play anything from If Your Feeling Sinister???!

Jebus, I would have been gutted! I'm not so dissappointed that I couldn't go now...Ben Lee was class anywhoo!

    Wow, can't believe that!

    How terrible were the Brakes?

I mean I wasn't expecting much... but... my god they were f*cking awful.

I enjoyed Belle and Sebatian a lot though. I don't go to gigs too often though.. so I really couldn't tell you if it was a good gig or not though.

superb gig, superb performance, great banter. It was a cracking gig and the rapport between band and crowd was top class.

The set list omitted a couple of songs that everyone there I'm sure would have lived to hear but there was a great blend, with pretty much every album (and the Lady Line Painter Jane EPs -despite an earlier comment) represented. They didn't overdo the new stuff and the older stuff seemed to be picked to suit the musicians they had with them - and who could complain about that, the strings were fantastic.

    roll on part 2 tonight.

 They didn't play anything from LLPJ. A fairly strange but good setlist. Was strange that there was a lack of anything from IYFS and TBWTAS, but the inclusion of Dog On Wheels and State I Am In more than made up for it. Much better than the last time they played the Olympia I thought. I reckon it'll be a different setlist tonight.

Shiiiiiiiiite, forgot the gig's on tonight, left my ticket at home :(

'Dog on wheels' was on that series of EPs, unless I'm very mistaken.

What song did they play from the Lazy Line Painter Jane EP? Because I certainly dont remember one.
    Lazy Line Painter Jane?
You Made me Forget my Dreams?
    Photo Jenny?
    A Century of Elvis?

    They played neither of those.

Great gig and I was at CYHSY and Belle and Sebastian were much better in my opinion, sound was great too. They kept on about taking request but did they actually play anything anyone shouted for (was hoping for Fox in the snow)! Thought they could have came back for one more at the end, that was a pity.

oh right, I didn't realise we'd gotten as pedantic to discuss what they didn't play from individual EPs. I was talking about the series of EPs that were brought out under the collective banner of 'Lady Line Painter Jane EPs', which also constitute CD1 of Push Barman. Dog On Wheels featured as part of those.

If we want to get that pedantic though, lets go through what they did/didn't play of each of their singles.

    Anyone?

Apologies, but I thought you were referring to the actual EP. I have never heard of these earlier EPs being collectively referred to as the LLPJ EPs, but what do I know?:o
