17 stone, 6'3 and a 38 waist? That doesn't really add up.....unless you are either muscular, or have a beer belly as opposed to being actually generally fat - but judging from the thread topic I hardly imagine it's the former. :D

I'm 13 1/2 stone and wear the same size (38) trousers usually, so I don't see how somebody nearly four stone heavier then me wears the same trousers :D

Of course you can be fat and happy. It's not so much about being fat; it's about how you feel about being fat which varies from person to person.

Why not? If weight isn't something you care about you can be as fat
as you like and be perfectly happy. One size does not fit all as they
    say :D

    Fat is subjective.

/Edit. Actually so is happiness. So I don't know what my point is.

Because height plays a huge part. If he's 6'3 and you're, for example, 5'8, that's how he wears the same size trousers. He has more body for the weight to spread over.

I'm 6'1 and fairly broad

So 2 inches doesn't really explain that in an almost four stone variation two guys wear the same trousers :D

Not that I care like lol, just a silly thing, but anybody I know that's 17 stone or over wears size 42 or over....

In fairness VB, your height would carry off your weight.
and to answer your question, I think its person dependant.
I know when I was a bit bigger, I wasn't too happy tbh. It wasn't
all about looking better, I feel better healthwise too. I'd a hell of alot of
baby weight to get shot of, and did. I'm lighter now than before I had the
two kids. I've a couple of friends who are + sizes, and their attitudes vary.
One of which is fine with it, a happy person. and and one or two others lament about not sticking to diets like its the only thing in the world that matters. People have lost sight of the real issue, which is the health benefits involved with weight loss. not to get into those old jeans or whatever.

Of course you can be fat & happy, same as you can be skinny & happy, ugly & happy, etc, etc.....

If you are overweight but happy with your weight and life in general, you will obviously be a fat, happy person....if your weight contributes to making you miserable or you over eat as a result of being unhappy, you will be an unhappy fat person.....

I was 4stone overweight after I had my son but I can honestly say I had never been happier....that's not to say I wanted to be 4stone overweight but I was really, really happy - and fat! :D

I could never be, some years ago I was living at home, depressed and went up to 11 1/2 stone came close to 12... hated how I looked, back to 10 1/2 now :)

    I'm 5'10", 31' waist

Think there is more pressure on girls (in my opinion anyway)
Im not near happy with my figure, im 1.65m (5 ft 5), im a 12-14, round 10.5 stone and i am very self conscious of how i look. i suppose by irish standards there's a lot of girls out there the same size as me or bigger. most of my friends are bigger than me, my 3 closest friends are, and they're not happywith their figures. But im doing something bout it (healthier diet, more exercise) so i guess im dealing with the issue

Googled his name i take it hes a singer, .

anyhew, i think that most people are so selfcontious -(i hope i spelled that right) about what people think hence, unhappy, just remember people are judgemental about everything in this world and they are never happy, you are.

Maybe you never think about it, but would you not prefer to be a bit more slim? If done correctly it would mean you will be far more healthier. Would you not prefer that, would you not be happier knowing you were more healthy?

Havok..... there's no way you're a 38! What you talking bout son? Here's Havok, :D

you put on weight when you were depressed?
    i was the opposite.
i'm 6' 2" and when i was at my suicidal stage (about 8 or 9 years ago. 21 years old then and a fully grown man) i weighed 9 stone. now i'm kind of happy and weigh 17 stone, which makes me technically obese.

i have a friend (see picture in the know your nerds thread) who is 5' 8" and did weigh 17 stone. he's now down to 12 1/2 and looks a shell of his former self. i don't think the weight loss has made him any happier.

oh yeah. 38" waist. most of my body weight is beer and pizza related. very large beer belly.

You can't be fat and happy. Fat people aren't happy, they're jolly.

My old man seems to be hapy enough and he's a giant. Has a huge belly on him. I'm the other end of the scale. 6"2, 32" waist and I'm only 8 stone. Everyone keeps telling me that I should be a certain weight and should match standards for my weight but I'm happy as I am thanks very much. Either way, fat or thin you can be happy.

Just answering a stupid question without reading any reply`s

    What a stupid question.

    6' 2" and 8 stone.

dude, you seriously need to put on some weight. that's not healthy.
when i was underweight i suffered from heart palpitations and they are scary as ****. pretty much harmless, but scary nonetheless.
no, that's just wrong. you need at least another 2 stone, if not more.

    Cableguy,

    just answering a stupid post.

by your logic all thin people are happy?

i take it that your not fat, so are you happy?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,867 ✭✭✭✭cormie

Yes, you can, but you it's better not to be fat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,073 ✭✭✭✭Terry

it's healthier not to be fat, but it's also healthier not to be skinny.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,485 ✭✭✭✭Ickle Magoo

Surely the healthiest thing is to be happy? If I were the perfect weight for my height & completely miserable - does that make me healthier than if I were overweight and happy? Just curious......

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,867 ✭✭✭✭cormie

happiness is of course the main thing, but if you overweight and happy, you I'm sure 99% of overweight happy people would be happier if they were a healthy weight.

But I'm perfectly healthy. I'm not fit or anything but I'm healthy. I like being underweight. I've done one of those tests before to see if I was under weight and I scored just slightly below average weight. If I had one extra pound I'd be classes as average.
