stupid people do stupid things ... im glad that nature is weeding out the stupid ... but id really like to know the real story , the trivial presuit thing and half dose is bollox, if you knew the real story and found out he ate 2 punnets and 3 bottles of wine while watching a porno with his mates before going to the party then id have a bit more respect for him but who can say that to the family and guards :)

Is anyone interested in mounting a counter campaign ?

There are probably 200 + smart people on boards alone who personally oppose the ban. With the help of the Internet.... I wonder what might happen?

doubt if it would work but its defiently worth a shot, it would take a lot of time and planning to pull it off though.

Am I correct in saying based on that press release from the UN that the UN are OKAY with mushrooms and truffles? WTF is Irelands problem if thats the case? Who are we to differ from the scientific standpoint of the UN?

a country which is run by joe duffy and his geriatric sidekicks.

I don't think the government even took the time to consider the UNs stance on the issue or the Dutch governments risk assesment which concluded that the risks using mushrooms is very small.

mushrooms were the last practical legal intoxicant left, besides alcohol.
now all thats left to do for a bit of chemical escapism is drink, drink and more bloody drink. but there are no votes in banning alcohol.

There are others, hope they don't go after them now.

The main one I'm worried about is the mescaline containing cacti but the is also Hawaiian Baby Woodrose Seeds, certain herbs that can be used to brew ayahuasca among others and yes salvia is also a concern, many countries have begun the process of making it illegal or have already banned, its only a matter of time.

im really quite infuriated at this ban.

    the usual sensationalism.

i go out on a thursday night and i see the intoxicated louts being hauled into ambulances after drinking ten pints and deciding to beat the life out of anyone they take a disliking too.

as usual the government take the easy option.

i would be afraid to try and pick them myself,i dont have enough education on them to be confident..at least in funky skunk i was sure i was buying mushrooms that were not toxic.

you dont take mushrooms if you have predisposing mental conditions or on certain medicines .its all about careful preparation.

I read an article in one of the Sunday Times magazines a few weeks ago, in which the author took part in an ayahuasca "healing session"... she spent a week in the Brazilian rain forest with a Shaman tripping as part of a group on ayahuasca, with the Shaman guiding her through her trips... It was nicely written and it was portrayed in an acceptable, alternative lifestyle kind of a way. The fact that the article appeared in such distinctly middle class magazine and didn't cause an uproar was a very positive thing imo. Perhaps if psychedelic drugs can become fashionable one day, and associated with middle class life - as just another way of destressing in the modern hectic lifestyle - they will no longer be seen as threatening... just another import from shamanistic life, like yoga, meditation, tai chi etc... Psychedelic drugs just need some slick PR management!

If they banned alcohol this afternoon (it wasn't even overnight!) I would not be rolling my eyes at off-licence owners looking for compo for such a ridiculously short notice ban.

Okay that's a fair point....but my context for using the rolleyes smiley was at how this shop owner came across to his potential demographic audience (he was on a local radio talk show)...he presented himself as someone more interested in his financial losses than the actual issue here (the pulling of legal staus on something that's been widely available for years, and it's implications for personal freedom of choice in this State).
Right, the guy's a businessman, but to listeners he took on the air of a drug dealer deprived of his customers....which does his side of the argument no good at all and simply hammers home the point of the opposition (IMO).

Can you honestly see the governement turn around and compensate someone who, from a legal standpoint today, is a class B dealer? Imagine the uproar...."My tax contribution, disgrace"...yadda yadda
As for the point on the smoking ban I agree 100%, but you have to remember just how much the smoking ban was going to affect strong lobby groups in this country, like the pub owners...can't bully those guys and throw your legal weight around overnight or they'll land you in front of the courts come monday morning crying foul...

i would like to try that.. but from what i have heard and read about its in quite a different league from mushrooms.

what is the story on kits? are they banned aswell?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 246 ✭✭psilocybe

Spore are still legal but any kit that contains mycellium is illegal. These kits have always been technically illegal as the contained dehydrated mycellium.
