Does anybody know how this will affect series-linked shows in my PP? I have Action ready to go tomorrow - it still says ITV4 in the PP, but programme synopsis is gone, as is the series link option, so I would assume it's dead - the recording will fail? Would adding the station manually do anything for it?

    Dear Sir/Madam,
Why has ITV3 and ITV4 been removed from Sky digital in Ireland?
NTL customers are still recieving their full service? -they even get bbc3,4,news24, world and radio, channel 4 etc.

Im paying more for sky -why aren't you providing a similar if not better service for the money Im paying you?

Much to my dissapointment I'll be getting rid of my dish subscribtion tomorrow (sky+ with multiroom) infavour of NTL.

Sky I suggest If tv3 are causing all the hassle they should be removed from the EPG for opposing competition (ITV or no ITV they would still maintain poor ratings figures purely down to the quality of their broadcasts.)

    Regards,
    Andrew

this is hillarious! You complain to the BCI about a channel they don't regulate on a platform that is not regulated in our country!! Why would Ofcom be bothered? Why would Tv3 be interested? they must have a great old laugh when they read this rambling! You really should check up on a few facts before writing!

I thought the answer was pretty straightforward. ITV have en massedeparted the Sky Digital platform in favour of FTA D-Sat. They still have their carriage agreements in place with various cable operators.

Once again, TV3 have not opposed competition they have only defended the programme rights they have paid for the RoI. If UTV wanted to be on the Sky EPG for RoI they should have negotiated the various programme rights.

looks like they might have to rename Sky Plus Sky Minus

Here in the North, the Daily Mail TV listings magazine - "Weekend" - has stopped listng ITV2 and ITV3 and never did list ITV4. Here is the reply I got when I e-mailed to ask why:

"The reason we are, with regret, not listing ITV's digital channels is that
ITV is demanding an exorbitant payment for their listings, based on the
addition of these channels. In common with nearly all other national
newspapers, we are refusing to list their programmes until they drop their
demands. Negotations are in progress and we are hopeful of a successful
    outcome.

This situation is not satisfactory for anyone and we hope very much that it
    is quickly resolved."

if ITV end up owning TV3 they will prolly rebrand it with the ITV corporate identity just like the other proper ITV channels and just have Irish opt outs for news or local programmes, perhaps naming it ITV1 Ireland. UTV would still be its own seperate region. but that may never happen.
    .
It could never happen as it would breach the terms of the licence.

I'm in the UK in the moment and have access to most papers daily, Recently they've nearly all stopped listing ITV 2,3, and 4. so this explains a lot!

No they haven't. The ITV channels are still on the UK Sky EPG. The removal of ITV3 and 4 has only happened on the Irish EPG.

Reply from Duty Office in ITV below - possible Champ League issues?

Thank you for your recent email.

I can confirm that ITV3 & 4 have been removed from SKY in the Republic of Ireland due to 'programme right issues' and at this present moment in time is all the information we have.

    Hi all,
I would love to know what happened too, but Sky are blaming ITV while ITV say its Sky did this. What a mess.

Anyway, I was wondering does anyone know how to remove the pin number protection for other channels as I have to enter it each time I go into other channels and its a pain. These is also the additional problem that I have pin protection for over 18's but if I give the pin to my daughter in order to get into other channels when I'm not there then she has the pin for over 18's too. I rang Sky and they said its a problem with some sky boxes but I suspect thats crap!

    Thanks for your help,
    Blarney

No they haven't. The ITV channels are still on the UK Sky EPG. The removal of ITV3 and 4 has only happened on the Irish EPG.

I don't have Sky Dig so I can only take your word on that but I have noticed that all ITV is listed in the the other free to air channels on their web site. As someone suggested, they probably said why bother paying for the Irish EPG when they derive no revenue from this country.

ITV3/4 is not available on cable/mmds here either afaik.

    ITV3 is available on ntl

Well I didn't see it on the NTL channel list. In any case, NTL may have negotiated carriage for ITV3 as with any other digital channel - that's their business. As I said, I suspect that it just wasn't worth the money to have the Irish EPG listing. They are not making money here and they've gone FTA anyway.

Well then, why don't they? Look at all the stations on Sky and NTL that have opt-outs for commercials? Sky One, Sky Sports 1&2, Sky News, Paramount, MTV etc....

no you can't switch it off as long as any channels are restricted.

    all or nothing i'm afraid.

    cut your daughter some slack.

Im gonna cancel my half price sub too and tell them its cause of loosing itv 3+4 --- I thought EU law states that any satellite reciever must have the capability of tuning in FTA channels! -Its high time that sky learnt that its other channels function is not inline with EU law.

This has been discussed to death already.

EU law forbids the blocking of freely available channels.
The Other Channels facility is, sadly, perfectly inline with EU regulations.

Its not in the slightest bit customer orientated, but it complies to the rules.

For anyone that wants a tv listing they could try

True, and maybe they will in time. ITV have never targeted this market as they have not needed to. For smaller or niche channels in makes sense to try and get revenue out of each territory.

In regard to EU law and blocking channels. AFAIK it only applies to Governments taking action to block or "jam" a channel. It does not stop a private company such as Sky Digital to not carry them on their EPG or to make the access to these channels conditional through their platform.

I don't believe either that EU requires a satellite receiver to be able to receive FTA channels. In any case, you should be able to receive ITV3/4 FTA (they are FTA) by tuning them in. You just won't have the convenience and advantages of the EPG listing.

I can confirm my FTA box still does all ITV channels now and next :)

I can also confirm that my PC Digiguide still does all the ITV channels.

My PC Satellite card still records all the FTA channels including all BBC/ITV without help of anything other than Dish and LNB.

I can ALSO confiirm that Sky+ is a rip off:
    1) You have to pay a rental or it doesn't record
    2) It will NOT record anything Sky doesn't want it to.

I can also confirm that ALL the BBC and ALL the ITV channel viewing and EPG and full guide is only a flip away on an ROI sub box. (Just tested)

    * Go to Sky News
    * Press RED
    * Wait for interactive to load
    * flip card and put it fully in upside down (or ANY card with no chip downward)
    * Press backup
    * Wait ....
    * When picture is back press Guide. It will have UK Guide and all UK listings and FTA channels work... EXCEPT no recording on the Rip OFF Sky+

If ITV don't want or can't to pay the extra for being on Irish EPG why should they?

Why should Sky pay for then either.

Satellite is NOT cable. The problem is Sky closed architecture and the Digibox design, not ITV.

Well you have to pay NTL/Chorus. But I have ITV3 on 4 digital receivers without paying anyone.

Chorus/NTL don't have a PVR yet. Even an ROI sub Digibox can get it on EPG as per above. It is the Sky+ ROI users that are getting less than they should because Sky insists on a Recording Rental. IMO that should be illegal

I had two recordings for today on ITV4, and they both failed.
Pressing the 'i' button gave the explanation 'Technical Fault'.
Only afterwards did I realise that both ITV 3 and 4 were off the EPG.

To answer the personal planner question, I had both these programmes on Series Link and all that appeared was:

    ...searching...
    ...searching...

No programme/channel info, and no 'i' button info.

I would assume anyone who earlier this week had a programme to record later will fail, and any Series Links will appear as above.

You don't have to pay rental if your a full pack subscriber..(I love sky plus cant count the ways in which I love it! you just press that little r button on the program you want, press the green if you never want to miss an episode again)(record two programs at the same time and watch a movie I recorded earlier -all at the same time) rewind the fist fights on the NHL -and play in slow moe..No dirty heads -no out of tape - no fastforwarding to find space on tapes -no taking forever to format a disk to record - always has the latest features - I love u SKY PLUS!!!

Sjy wouldn't give a toss if ITV all caught on fire...they don't give a sh*te about the ROI epg -dont care whats at the top of the epg or whats on the bottom - rte pay feck all for the top slot-- (If I win the euro millions I'll prove that theory!)

RTE pay nothing for 101 - its gifted to them by the BCI as part of the deal for Sky being allowed transmit here. You have nothing to "prove".

BCI have nothing whatsoever to do with this - they have no control over sky's broadcasts into Ireland -(they even mention it on their websites)

Rte practically gifted themselves to sky because they needed to be on the platform due to waining from advertisers - notice that from December 1998 the first 5 years of sky digital they weren't on it yet they still operated in Ireland.

when the contract for supply ends anybody wanting epg positions 101,-105 could bid whatever they like for the positions

think there is a law which states that the home channels get these slots on the EPG. just wondering where the new channel 6 is going to ppear in the irish epg?
