Who would you like to see play Slane this year? For a rock concert with such huge headlining acts in the past, theres not too many bands left that could fill it imo. Personally I would love to see The Who when they tour this year and AC/DC if they ever come back to Ireland. Maybe a double header?? That would be too much to ask.

i heard that it was going to be Green Day headlining. That wuld be savage. Your right there isnt alot of bands around that can do it. As long as they dont go wit that rap sh*t again,

I'd go for someone like AC/DC or The Who, I like those two suggestions. Anyone big, legendary and ROCKtastic.

they wont ever play rap/hip hop at slane for a long long time i think, i am a rap/hip hop fan but i do agree slane has always been more or less a rock event

Coldplay!i seriously think that they could pull off a brilliant show at slane!them and ac/dc would both be brill headline acts!

Coldplay are not a stadium rock band, nowhere near it in fact.

I'd love to see any of these headlining:

    Pink Floyd,
    Metallica,
    The Who,
    AC/DC,
    Rolling Stones...

Coldplay were one of the most impressive acts at live eight!Robbie Williams was one of the best performances at slane and he aint stadium rock!

It's not really about Stadium Rock, more the stage presence and charisma to carry off such a large scale event. Coldplay are a fine band and I have a lot of time for them but their sound and their presence is more suited to a smaller venue - they'd be dwarfed by Slane.

Slane was always about stadium rock. Queen, Bruce Springsteen, Thin Lizzy, U2, Guns n Roses, Stones, Bowie... I think Robbie Williams just about got away with it because hes an exceptional showman. He was that day anyway. Stereophonics, Madonna, Bryan Adams etc dont fit into that category and were disappointing imo. It will take the likes of The Who or AC/DC as I mentioned to bring back the old spirit of Slane. And thank God Eminem didn't play. Coldplay are great live but leave them in Marley Park.

He has no source, but it would be a sad day for me if greenday headlined, do you think the could sell out slane? not by themselves obviously!!

Rage Against the Machine are reforming and are playing Slane.

    I wish...

I'd love to see The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd or David Bowie. Or all of the above, though that may be wishful thinking!

No it wouldn't...It really really wouldn't!
I'd love to see pink Floyd, but I don't think Slane is the place for them.
TBH I couldn't give a crap who headline(unless Peppers do it agin, they are releasing a double album this year!) cuz I'm heading to the Electric Picnic WOOHOO

The annual "I think AC/DC should bring ROCK back to Slane" thread...

Bowie could put on a great show, and he's due a gig since he had to pull out of Oxegen. God knows he had a good time the last time he played here...

I'd cream myself if Floyd played but it's wishful thinking. Won't happen. If they ever play another gig it will be in London.

David Bowie was not stadium rock when he played Slane. He was piss poor 80s Bowie*

    * which sounds great on record with the benefit of hindsight but he died a savage death at Slane... a gig that was long regarded the worst Slane gig until the recent crop of ****e

I hope so, but Billie Joe reportedly said that they're taking a long break now, and they'll be working on their new album this year, so not to expect anything too soon. (he wasn't speaking directly to us though, just in general lol)

I really hope they come back to play at Slane, I really want to see them again!!

Did you foget about Milton Keynes?? 135,000 people over two days, my friend. I know there are more people in England, but if Robbie Williams can do it over here, green day are surely capable of it! ;):p

Mountcharles said he wont have a band who headlined Slane before to headline again. U2 were an exception understandably

Greenday would be a bad idea.
It'd be as much of a gamble as last year was.

I totally agree that the headline should go to AC/DC or someone along those lines but I wouldn't object to seeing Greenday as one of the supports.

I heard rumours about greenday headlining but I would prefer to see the likes of metallica or AC/DC.
What date is it usually confirmed??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,673 ✭✭✭✭senordingdong

As much as I lvoe them and all....does anybody really think Metallica would be appropriate?

I tihnk they're worthy, but I don't think it'd be right for a band like Metallica to do it.

agreed metallica wouldn't be able to pull it off

Pink Floyd for slane would just be ****in amazing!!!!

Having seen clips of green day at milton keynes, i reckon they could pull off slane to be honest.

But, after last years shenanigans they really do need some old school rock headliners!! The Who or AC/DC would be cool, with bands like muse, radiohead supporting.

THE WHO BABY THE WHO!!! How cool would that be to see the laser show during 'Baba O'Riley' and 'Wont Get Fooled Again' all around Slane? If only Keith Moon was still around...R.I.P. Legend Forever

Am i right in saying that U2 hadn't headlined Slane until the elevation tour? they opened for Thin Lizzy did they not?

Or are you just saying that Mountcharles would let them headline again? Would be silly not too imo

Regarding who is headlining, I think that there aren't really that many bands who would be able to shift 80,000 tickets on their own, in recent years I believe the support acts for the day are just as important as the headliners

No I meant he let them headline twice but it was the same year. They did open for Thin Lizzy
