Anybody know of a cure for shin splints ?

I have started training in recent weeks, and any time I run on a hard surface my legs start to pain me, especially the right leg.
The Doctor and Physio have both confirmed that I have shin splints, but neither has so far solved the problem for me ?!

Any quick solutions to the problem ?

    Cheers.

Rest and massage are the only things that really work for shin splints

well actually i have shin splints and rest may do you little good. what you need are orthotics which are inserts for your shoes that are moulded to redress the problem

Shin splints occur when your arches on your feet are not high enough and the muscle that goes around them up to your knee suffers friction due to this by rubbing off bone or whatever. the inserts higher your arch to the way they shud be.

any physio worth his salt would have told you this and he shud have a measurement apparatus to measure then order them from a place in cork (i tink)

Even with them you have to use them all the time of you will get temporary problems and they dont work for everyone. they worked for me and if they dont work ultimately you may need an operation if you tink its worth it
they cost bout 100. In the absence of this i would advise you to take up cycling!
