Oh and just because Australia like being in the monarchy doesnt mean that Ireland should. I'm not going to even get into the whole IRA thing.

I'd have to agree with almost all of those points.
I went to Philadelphia in October of last year and almost lapsed into depression when I came home. It's hard to describe it but it's just different, in a good, healthy way.
Closed-mindedness is the most abundant factor really.
Good luck to you in Australia aus_boy, never been there so for all i know it could be the same as here [besides wheather].

Aus_Boy you just listed a multitude of reasons why I stay in Ireland.

Anyway take it easy in Aus. By the sound of things you'll be a bit shocked when you wake up in the morning and realise Aus isn't perfect either. Keep movin baby..... keep on movin....

May I congratulate you, Aus_boy, on making Ireland into a significantly better place by leaving. The less moany, whinging bastards in the country, the better.

i agree with 50% of what you said, the other 50% makes me want to run you up a flag poll and leave you hanging for days on end.

as for Austrailia, it has as many, if not more problems then us

    Well said Boston.

Also Aus Boy - I'm living with some Australians and they have no complaints about the place.

Granted Oz cities are cleaner and the weather is warmer but that's about it. Everything else, rents, traffic, jobs, etc, is pretty much the same.

No doubt you'll soon find a whole slate of things to moan and bitch about - have fun.

No way, if anything - we need more moany whinging bastards... IMO we put up with too much crap from people and organizations in this country (excuse me, but IR£4,000+ for car insurance? .... eircoms telco monopoly?).
I shudder to think where this country would be if nobody moaned, we'd all be happy little paddies, eating our spuds and tending to Lord Wellingtons vast acres while we sleep starving in our own shít.
There's nothing wrong with moaning, and instead of píssing on this poor fellow from a height and dismissing his points as total crap (although many are)- why not just take them with a pinch of salt and accept them as feelings instead of fact.
The fact is, he's not the only one who's utterly píssed off with the state of things here, there are thousands like him... and although many other places around the world are just as bad (and even more that are far worse)... I say fair play to him for at least trying to find somewhere he'll be happy.

Or maybe I'm just talking a load of old shíte, in which case - flame on you crazy fire-engine!
    WOOOHOOOOO!!!!

If Ireland is such a crap place, and all the people in it, are rascist, homophobic, unhygenic, closeminded and petty, then why are you posting on an Irish discussion board, full of predominetly Irish people ? If its to show how much of an enlightened and clever person you are, much more so than us spud munching rednecks who sleep in their own filth, i don't think its worked.

well, i couold agree with about 99% of the things hes complained about. but its not the reason i left ireland.
i left coz i was bored of dublin.
some of those things you cant change, some of them you can ignore, and some o fthe m are the same as any city.
i wouldnt agree with you on the irish women are ugky and ythe good looking ones are cocky.
you will get that sort of thing wherever you go. ie, whoever you know just doesnt look like a supermodel.
try dressing up and going where the babes are and youll be surprised how many will talk to you. thats not to say that people who dont got to certain places arent attractive.
anyway, you shouldnt judge someone on how outwardly attractive they are. so i wouldnt say that irish women are ugly.
they are a lot of things, but not ugly.

ah sure it doesn't matter as long as they're on their knees....

It isn't moany whinging bastards you need to deal with that, it's people who are prepared to take a proactive stance, go out there and do something. Sitting around bellyaching about the weather and how everyone else is a cúnt isn't going to solve anything, and frankly people like that get on my títs.

    17. Irish women are ugly, the few pretty ones are snotty and cocky
 You obviously haven't been around my area so, have you...

Pity you did not say how long you have been in Australia. Have you got over your honneymoon yet. I have been in France for 24 years and went through the honeymoon stage, then the hate stage and then acceptance. As the others said there are good and bad things about every city. Although I am from Dublin - Dublin is not Ireland.

I take great insult by anyone judging Ireland as a whole based on time spent only in Dublin. Dublin imo in no way reflects Ireland, its traditions, heritage, beliefs, values etc.

No... I actually consulted some friends first to get an appropriate slag. Good wasn't it?

As for Dublin not being Ireland what are you all talking about? As per WWM, what else is there? :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,446 ✭✭✭✭amp

Dublin is not Ireland. It's only about a third.

As for the rest of aus_boys homesick rantings:

Yeah, it's very rare to find the following in Dublin:

    Tractors.
People who are "close" to sheep.
    Green things.
    Dark unlit roads.
Cows (although Club Sarah contains exceptions)
    Things cows leave behind.
    Cheap pints.
The Irish language (apart from the Donnybrook gaeltacht).
    Slurry.
Impressive skies where you can see all the stars and make out the milky way.
Goats (apart from a certain studio I've been.. heard about)
National Museums containing examples of Irelands heritage.
    etc.

Oh wait! Are we talking about Dublin City or County Dublin? O NOE! I HAV MAID AN ER0R!
