something similar happened when i was j1'ing in Boston....some idiots decided to trash a place during a house party and broke all the appliances (doors off ovens, fridge, microwave) and pulled all sinks and toilets off the walls....

disgusting, mindless vandalism.

These fuckwits should be found and made to pay for the repairs.

first of all i dont condone this kind of thing.

Secondly somebody said they hadnt broken any laws...destruction of private property is against the law, is it not? and vandalism too.

thirdly...apart from a picture of a trashed apartment where is the proof that these irish people did it? (slight contradiction of secondly..i know)...who is to say that the student didnt come back and trash his own apartment? or that some people didnt break in and squat there for a while before he did return (front door was broken off after all)

fourthly...if any college was to disclose any information on the 'alleged' perpetrators of this crime, then are the colleges themselves not breaking the law by disclosing private information on people? (open to corrections on this..but think this is a crime).

Also for the management company to be contacting all the colleges and giving out these students details is a disgrace...if they were really interested in resolving this they would contact the Irish police with their details and let them find the culprits!

Overall I think they probably did trash the apartment...but find it difficult to see 15k worth of damages. I would also like to see more conclusive evidence that they wrecked the place before they get tried and convicted in public.

Maybe not to the same extent as described in this thread, but it does happen, and it's been happening for a long while. It's not a recent phenomenom.

Are you saying this is some sort of typical 'boys' behaviour? Absolute rubbish, it might be typical tosspot behaviour, though that would be insulting tosspots, the majority of whom wouldn't behave worse than animals like the 'gentlemen' in question.

While I agree this kind of thing does happen and is not hugely uncommon, that doesn't mean that it's ok or excusable. This kind of behaviour is not something that I think that anyone should condone or pass off as "boys will be boys".

I agree that this isn't something to get hugely worked up about. But at the same time this is not something to just ignore and sweep under the carpet.

I saw this on the Irish news last night, can't remember if it was RTE or TV3.
They really made sh*t out of the place. Cretins.
Above the flag painted on the wall appeared to be 'Up England' and below it 'F*ck Ireland'. So they must have had some friendly english mates with them, or it was a stroke of genius to throw the authorities off their trail :rolleyes:

The subleasers allegedly caused $15,000 worth of damages in three apartments at 800 Embarcadero del Mar, said Lt. Sol Linver of the Isla Vista Foot Patrol (IVFP)

I took that as being $15,000 between the three apartments, not $15,000's worth of damage per apartment.
It's a disgrace anyway and I'm glad it's gotten media attention and hopefully those scumbags will have to face some consequences.
