I was walking into centra this morning and two girls(13-14ish) asked me "Would you please buy us cigarettes,I beg ya" .I said no,as I came out I said to them why would they want to kill themselfs, having bad breath, bad teeth, yellow fingers and so on.They looked at me as if I was talking a foreign language.

Anyone ever bought for kids who were under 16.Is it 16 or 18 to buy cigarettes in a shop?

I think someone who buys cigarettes for underage kids should be ashamed of themselfs.

Nope but get asked all the time. Same with alcohol wouldn't buy it for them.Even though about a year ago i was offered a €10 to buy 6 cans of Dutch gold for them

Never cigarettes but have been asked to buy drink when going into an off licence. I'd give the same answer for cigarettes though - not a chance.

Yes. This happened to me last week when I was walking into Spar. Some little bitch asked me to get her fags, I said no and she called me a bitch. Thought she was being soooo cool in front of her friends but I wiped the smile off her face when I walked up the her and asked her what she had just said. She turned white and said “nothing”. Don’t you just love taking these teenagers down a peg or two :)

    Yeah, wouldn't do it either.

I usually get asked to buy beer more though. I'm always tempted to say yes, and feck off with their money to teach them a lesson.

Ye, had a similar thing happen to me the other day. 2 girls, maybe 16, where sitting outside an off license. I walked past them and they started begging me to buy vodka for them  . Now they where kinda hot :p , so i gave it some thought but new it would be lame. I hate seeing young ones drunk, mainly because i did it and looking back can see how stupid i was.

Yeah a few times, I never do, when I said no to one girl she replied "Well what goes around comes around."

Did she mean that one day I would be hanging around outside a petrol station looking for someone to buy me fags and they would refuse? Skangers eh?

Yeah thats true they always try say something smart when you say no. I think one fella said to me "**** off ya gay" or something along those lines.

When i came back out of the shop i walked by them and said to the young guy "see ya lover" and gave him a wink ;) . He didn't look too impressed as all his little cronies p1ssed themselves laughing and started calling him a fag !!!

I would not buy cigarettes at all. I wouldn't buy alcohol either unless I knew the kids, they were 16 or older and I was sure they'd drink fairly responsibly. Alcohol laws are far too strict in this country.

Would never buy alcohol for them if they asked, especially not the hard stuff, and that seems to be the only thing they want... Vodka and smokes.

It is funny watching them beg. Had a you bloke, must have been no more than 11, get down on his knees begging me and my mates to buy him "10 Johnny Blue". He even went so far as to threaten us he would damage the car he saw us getting out of. Stupidly, he failed to notice the big security guard standing right outside the shop
Some kids... just no cop-on at all.

about two weeks ago a gang of us were in killarney and standing outside a pub, this young fella, no older than 10 asked one of the lads to buy him fags and drink in the pub,

when he just laughed at him and said no the young fella threatened to stab him with a knife, and then he staggered off, obviously fairly drunk already and this was early saturday afternoon!!

    madness.

    :D

I have a few girls ask me sometimes but I always say no, wouldn't even consider it. Strangely enough its never really lads, it seems to be the young girls (about 14) at are at it.

I work in Westside in Galway though, practically a ghetto of knacks and shams.

Still. Answer = no. I've never actually been threatened or had any form of abuse given my way though after saying no....maybe they have SOME manners :p

I remember when I was first legal I once or twice bought drink for younger people (they were about 15/16 y/o on average I guess) hanging outside the offo. I reckoned there was no harm in it as they'd just be sitting in a bush minding their own business and I had remembered wishing how someone would have done the same for me at that age.

Anyway about a year later I was coming home from the pub one night and for no reason me and two other guys got hopped on about about a dozen of these little freaks (not the ones from the offo btw) fueled up to the eyeballs and swinging at the nearest thing they could find. Bottom line is we came out the worst for it.

Ever since then I've never bought booze for a kid and encourage anyone else not to either. All it takes is a couple of cans and these little tykes are fueled up for a night of troublemaking.

So anyway whenever I'm walking up to an offo and bunch of kids ask me to buy them drink I go 'sure!' and take their order and their cash. Then I go in buy my own beer, pocket theirs and walk back out.

When they come up to me like a children waiting for their xmas pressies I put on the 'shrug face' and go 'sorry mate the fella behind the counter said your note was counterfeit and he took it off me.' Then I walk off and trying to keep a straight face.

    The money goes to charity.

    :D Legend!

I'm going to remeber that one!

I used to get that a bit when living in Carlow as a student. I lived near a 24 hour shop and an off licence so the knacks hang around the 24hr looking for fags late at night. Always fun to stand there and think about it and then say "No" :)

    "yeh foohkin prick"

used to get asked to buy beer all the time, haven't been asked about cigs though, but the age for cigs is 18.

I have bought drink once for 3 lads about 15, they only wanted 3 cans, it was a sunny day, I usually say no. They wanted budweiser which I refused to buy, got them bulmers.

Some are so stupid waiting until you come back out, I had a gang of girls near mount merrion come over after I left. I was pissed and was going to go back, then they give me this huge list, 3 bulmers, 4 wicked blue etc etc. I ask if they tried already, they had, I then said "do you not think the owner is going to cop on?".
got them a bottle of vodka each, came back 3 hours later to sexually harvest my crop of drunken 14 year old beauties :D (joke!)

Id sooner sell a kid hash than buy them cigarettes

I started buying cigs when I was 12(30 now). I was never once refused. I also lived in the country. When I was 20 I moved to dublin for a while. I was in a shop one day and saw someone refused when they asked to bug cigs. This was the first time I had ever seen it happen, after that I saw it much more in Dublin but never in the country. It seems like times have changed!

That's good, if a little mean. I'd be more inclined to do that, wait for their reactions, then give back their money and tell them to quit being such a bunch of wasters. Alternatively buy them something else instead, water or juice or school supplies. Or if it's somewhere like Tesco, depending on how much they gave me, a book or CD. If they asked for cigarettes, a couple of apples would go down a treat. Or some toothpaste and some mints. Something ironic anyway.

Great method to frustrate big buckets of hormones. I wouldn't buy the stuff but there is no need to be a sh*t to anyone. Also it is a bit risky you never know what they might do . 2 teenagers can easily kick the hell out of a grown man.

2 teenagers can easily kick the hell out of a grown man.

What kind of teenagers we talking about here?

Majority of those asking people to go into shops are usually 14/15.

Don't know about you, but I'd be fairly confident going up against 2 15 year olds.

It's generally kids from about 11-14. Older teenagers will have fake ID if they drink, or older friends who'll buy drink for them. I'd never buy drink or cigarettes for anyone who is sitting outside a shop. I once bought a kid a 15 rated game, but that's as bad as I get.

When I turned 18 I did it because I could. But they're so thick, they make it so obvious when the wait a shop door and crowd around you like hungry dogs when you come out.

Now I just make an excuse like "Nah I'm in a rush", "No ID" or "They caught me doing it before" and walk straight by them. If you say anything matter-of-factly like it doesn't bother you ("my house is being robbed", ""I'm a jew", "nice shoes") you'll confuse them enough to get away before the usual "...ye fookin spa".
