When people panic there's no rational thought involved.
in fairness now if you did think there was a big plane coming towards you this is what a sane person would do

1st. look to see where the plane is coming from,
2nd. where its going to(if it is going to crash in to anything you should know where it is so if you do go running! you don't run in the wrong direction)
3rd. if you do look to see where its coming from and going to you might actually catch a glimpse of it. to be able to figure out what type of threat it is to you....

(now you'll love this) theirs a bit of a size difference between a passenger plane and a military aircraft, aswell as the fact that their was more than one of them, flying in formation...

case closed no need to panic people...

Well tell ya what, you let me know how cool and calm you are next time you're in the middle of a terrorist attack. Let me know if you stop, drop and roll or just plain **** your pants.

It's all fine and dandy to go on about what people should have done but unless you're in the situation you haven't got a clue how you'd react! People don't always do the sanest things when they think they're going to die.

    "It's me,in the nip,with the dog"...Teehee :D

actually come to think of it, i dont EVER recall george bush attenting a baseball game in boston, not that i would know. John Kerry did before the elections and it was front page material on USA today, so this has to be bull****.
Also, i read in the paper that Mr. Bush was going for his summer holidays in his special ranch in texas or where ever. I remember this because it was a big deal as he was planning on taking the longest holiday of any president, even longer then the last holiday he took!! So I am VERY doubtful now that i think of it, unless someone can prove me wrong!!
    :)

John kerry pitching the first pitch at a red sox's game made the front page of usa today, so it might just make the news id say!!

Your completely misunderstanding what im saying... I said that I cant find any news about Bush attending a Boston Red sox game recently.
What i meant about John Kerry was that last summer he was at a Boston Red sox's game and it made the first page of USA today. Therefore what I am trying to say to you is that surely if Mr. Bush was at a Boston Red Sox game and he had aircraft carriers flying low etc etc surely it would make some american newspaper or other, and as far as i can see it hasnt unless you can prove me wrong You said that you had a link, but its to him picking his nose, which given the topic isnt relevant. So basically, I think your cousin is lying or maybe its you LadyJ, maybe its you....

But nevermind, i still love you no matter what, unless your lying. ;)

i meant there is no election currently going on so the media would not cover him going to a baseball game.

God this is depressing, a country that has so much power and it's citizens go diving under cars at the sight of a plane. Military planes at that, which are considerably different to commercial planes. What if it was annouced on the radio there was going to be flyover, or on the tv, but your cousin just missed it? Should George go around door to door handing out leaflets? It is incomprehensible that military planes to could attack an American city, it's like saying Kilkenny or Athlone are at risk of naval bombardment, the risk is neglible.

Ah come on now. If it was announcent over the radio that George Bush has asked citizens "not to be alarmed when he has fighter aircraft fly over the city" everybody would say that he has a huge ego and is just looking for attention.

And those people who climbed under their beds, idiots, is all I can say.

Has anyone read the Time Machine by Wells, in the future people are ever more simplistic, to the point of being afraid of the dark, it seems pretty far fetched but the way America's going... I dunno.

so what you are saying is that everyone should have the same reactions as you to everything?

sounds to me that being righteously arrogant is one of your better qualities....?

No, of course not, I'm just saying that people should have a bit of common sense before they dive under cars (or do anything in fact)

Spot the difference between the two pictures, and apply two different reactions on seeing them flying low

Look,I agree that if they'd taken a few minutes to check out the planes then maybe they wouldn't have panicked so much but tbh,as I've already said, sometimes when you are frightened you don't think straight.

As for hiding under the beds,of course it would have made **** all difference if it was the real thing but I'd do it and anyone else probably would too. Survival instinct kicks in and although hiding under a bed makes no sense,I think people would feel more protected instead of just sitting tight and facing their fate head on.

Really it's all fine and well to say what they did was idiotic but if a real attack had happened and you'd heard of people hiding under beds then you wouldn't be so quick to make a mockery of them.

Actually I think America is a great country, and Americans are lovely people but they get some amount of crap for news, suppose eventually anyone'll start believing in it.

When someone throws something at your face, is your natural reaction to turn away to defend it, or to stare and decide what it is before you react?

Oh, and if I remember correctly, Massachusetts voted for Kerry

People living in fear is one thing, people thinking its funny that these people live in fear is another. When theres scares in Northern Ireand, the Uk or even Iraq, people have some sort of sense of what its like, so why aren't the US people been given the same treatment!I'm not sided with them but they are human and they're not all bad, even if they did pick a twat for a president.
