Yeah I agree L. Cohen original version I always thought was better.

Defo, was just listening to it the other day again. Amazing track, great female backing vocals.

Theres something to agree on :D

Fields of Barley. That song always brings a tear to my eye. Cant remember the name of the singer. I should know it. Just one of those days when u cant remember something small. :D

usually I would agree, but there is something haunting about Jeff's voice and the LC version doesnt seem to pick up as much for me. Also I hate the way he says Halelu - YA! Its one word god dammit! Sorry I dont mean to play down the song, it still is an amazing version.

Though my heart of solid iron keeps me from crying, if I did it would most certainly be to Dust in the Wind by Kansas, My own true love (lost at sea) by The Decemberists, Needle in the Hay by Elliott Smith....Actually there's tons of 'em. Thank god for the iron heart.

I don't understand the popularity of Evanescence, there is all these weird religious views in the music. Isn't "away from me" about being away from Jesus or God? There were a few religious rock bands around in the 80s and they were laughed at outside the US how this lot managed to make it and still have Goth kids listening to it is a miracle that their praying paid off.

couldnt give a fu<k what their intentions were but I like their original stuff from their ep's.
I dont see how this is about being away from god

"I hold my breath as this life starts to take its toll
I hide behind a smile as this perfect plan unfolds
But oh, God, I feel I've been lied to
Lost all faith in the things I have achieved
    And I

    [CHORUS:]
I've woken now to find myself
In the shadows of all I have created
I'm longing to be lost in you
(away from this place I have made)
Won't you take me away from me

Crawling through this world as disease flows through my veins
I look into myself, but my own heart has been changed
I can't go on like this
    I loathe all I've become

    [Chorus]

Lost in a dying world I reach for something more
I have grown so weary of this lie I live"

S club 7 - Never had a dream come true

Everybody’s got something they had to leave behind
One regret from yesterday that just seems to grow with time
There’s no use looking back or wondering
How it could be now or might have been
Oh this I know but still I can’t find ways to let you know

I’ve never had a dream come true
Till the day that I found you
Even though I pretend that I’ve moved on
    You’ll always be my baby
I never found the words to say
You’re the one I think about each day
And I know no matter where life takes me to
A part of me will always be with you

    Somewhere in my memory
I’ve lost all sense of time
And so my road can never be cos yesterday is all that fills my mind
There’s no use looking back or wondering
How it could be now or might have been
Oh this I know but still I can’t find ways to let you go

I’ve never had a dream come true
Till the day that I found you
Even though I pretend that I’ve moved on
    You’ll always be my baby
I never found the words to say
You’re the one I think about each day
And I know no matter where life takes me to
A part of me will always be

You’ll always be the dream that fills my head
Yes you will, say you will, you know you will
Oh baby, you’ll always be the one I know I’ll never forget
There’s no use looking back or wondering
Because love is a strange and funny thing
No matter how I try and try I just can’t say goodbye
    No no no no

I’ve never had a dream come true
Till the day that I found you
Even though I pretend that I’ve moved on
    You’ll always be my baby
I never found the words to say (words to say)
You’re the one I think about each day
And I know no matter where life takes me to
A part of me will always be
A part of me will always be with you

    weep weep

the Eva Cassidy version of Fields Of Gold always makes me *almost* cry, partly cos its sounds so melancholy, partly 'cos of those cancer adds that were on a couple of years ago. Everybody Hurts by REM always makes me feel all despair-y

Crazy Frog / Axel F makes me cry (but for all the wrong reasons).

Some of my favourites have been mentioned already (Fields of Gold, Everybody Hurts, Hear You Me, Blowers Daughter). Here are some others....

    Radiohead / No Surprises
The 4 of Us / Hymn for Her
    Ash / I'm Gonna Fall
    Jeff Buckley / Hallelujah
    The Frames / Your Face

    Kate Bush - Cloudbusting
    Tori Amos - Winter
    Frank Sinatra - Moon River
These songs make me cry when I am far away from my father (the last one because it is one of his favorite songs).

Music for Brideshead Revisted - really haunting.
    Claire de Lune.
    Moonlight Sonata.

Frank Sinatra - The way you look tonight
Golden Hoarde - True Friends in Time
    Enya - Marbelled Halls
James Blunt - Goodbye my lover
Has made me cry once or twice, reminds me of being in love.

    Dire Straits - Why Worry
Simon and Garfunkle - Bridge Over Troubled Water

    There are more...

The theme song to Schindlers List, man I get choked up any time I hear that song. My mom plays violin and when she plays it for me the tears start flowing.
