Song That Makes You Cry

I know there's loads of threads out there with Song About Your Ex or Your FAve Song or Song that Sums Up Your Ex but I'm just wondering does anyone have a song that when you hear it you just start crying or get goosebumps and stuff?

I've a friend and as soon as she hears the opening chord of Wake Me Up When September Ends by Greenday she just starts crying her eyes out! She's got no personal attatchment to it she just cries.

I get really upset when I hear She's Like The Wind by Patrick Swayze and I cry when I hear Nada Surf's cover of If You Leave and a few songs that my friends bands have.

Anyone else got a weird song?

Since I'm going through a breakup right now, a song that always gets me going is "Goodbye My Lover" by James Blunt. :(

Anything by Daniel O'Donnell. Having to listen to him is painful, so I avoid it. You'd think with all the money he has, he'd get singing lessons.

but the lyrics of that song really get to me and I love that guy anyway and Dirty Dancing, come on,

Shes like the wind throuhg my tree, she rides the night next to me.
She leads through moonlight only to burn me with teh sun,
She's taken my heart but she doesn't know what she's done.
Feel her breath in my face her body close to me
    Cant look in her eyes
    shes out of my league
Am I just fooling myself that she stop the pain
    Living without her
    I'll go insane...etc etc etc

    it so prettyfull

    Live - Lightning Crashes

For those of you who dont know it, its a song about woman who dies giving birth, the first time you hear it, its pretty deep.

Lightning crashes, a new mother cries
Her placenta falls to the floor
    The angel opens her eyes
    The confusion sets in
Before the doctor can even close the door

Lightning crashes, an old mother dies
Her intentions fall to the floor
    The angel closes her eyes
    The confusion that was hers
Belongs now, to the baby down the hall

Oh I feel it comin' back again
Like a rollin' thunder chasing the wind
Forces pullin' from the center of the earth again
    I can feel it

Lightning crashes, a new mother cries
This moment she's been waiting for
    The angel opens her eyes
Pale blue colored iris, presents the circle
Puts the glory up to high, high

Oh I feel it comin back again
Like a rollin' thunder chasing the wind
Forces pullin' from the center of the earth again
I can feel it; I can feel it

    Oh I, oh I, oh I

I can feel it comin' back again
Like a rollin' thunder chasing the wind
Forces pullin' from the center of the earth again
    I can feel it (x3)

I can feel it; I can feel it

I don't understand the popularity of Evanescence, there is all these weird religious views in the music. Isn't "away from me" about being away from Jesus or God? There were a few religious rock bands around in the 80s and they were laughed at outside the US how this lot managed to make it and still have Goth kids listening to it is a miracle that their praying paid off.

A song that makes me cry is "Hurt" by Johnny Cash. The video manages to add to the music in an even more powerfull song.

A song that used to tug at my heartstings was Ireland - Gareth brooks.

this is while i was living in Finland.... always made me think of all the things
    i couldn't take with me.

While i was waiting for my plane home to Ireland it came on the radio ... and i just had a big stupid grin on my face all the way home . =)

40 Fields of Green, was my Granddad's fav song ,and my granny's.

Wooden Jesus - Temple of the dog , remindes me of a girl i used to work with who took her own life :(

breakup songs are a little different ;P

Yes, Pink Flyod - High Hopes forgot about that one, just read the lyrics... think about the division bell reference in line 4... and then think of people you knew when you were younger.

Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young
In a world of magnets and miracles
Our thoughts strayed constantly and without boundary
The ringing of the division bell had begun
Along the long road and on down the causeway
Do they still meet there by the cut
There was a ragged band that followed in our footsteps
Running before time took our dreams away
Leaving the myriad small creatures trying to tie us to the ground
To a life consumed by slow decay

    The grass was greener
    The light was brighter
    With friends surrounded
    The nights of wonder

Looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us
To a glimpse of how green it was on the other side
Steps taken forwards but sleepwalking back again
Dragged by the force of some inner tide
At a higher altitude with flag unfurled
We reached the dizzy heights of that dreamed of world

    ****

Encumbered forever by desire and ambition
    There's a hunger still unsatisfied
Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon
though down this road we've been so many times

    The grass was greener
    The light was brighter
    The taste was sweeter
    The nights of wonder
    With friends surrounded
    The dawn mist glowing
    The water flowing
    The endless river

and another song that references people we once knew:

Neil Young - One of these days

Didn't notice what a great song this was until I read the lyrics:

    One of these days,
I’m gonna sit down and write a long letter
To all the good friends I’ve known
    And I’m gonna try
And thank them all for the good times together.
    Though so apart we’ve grown.

    One of these days,
I’m gonna sit down and write a long letter
To all the good friends I’ve known
One of these days, one of these days, one of these days,
And it won’t be long, it won’t be long.

    And I’m gonna thank,
    That old country fiddler
    And all those rough boys
Who play that rock ’n’ roll
I never tried to burn any bridges
Though I know I let some good things go.

    One of these days,
I’m gonna sit down and write a long letter
To all the good friends I’ve known
One of these days, one of these days, one of these days,
And it won’t be long, it won’t be long.

    From down in l.a.
    All the way to nashville,
    From new york city
    To my canadian prairie home
    My friends are scattered
Like leaves from an old maple.
Some are weak, some are strong.

    One of these days,
I’m gonna sit down and write a long letter
To all the good friends I’ve known
One of these days, one of these days, one of these days,
And it won’t be long, it won’t be long.

One of these days, one of these days, one of these days,
And it won’t be long, it won’t be long.

I used to cry to Elvis' version of Old Shep. I don't anymore, but it's a real sad song.

I have this problem though, when I come in after a night on the booze, I'll put on some Elvis music and if it's an emotional song, chances are I'll start crying. It's the combination of his beautiful voice, the power of the song, and the tragic end to someone so young...

The song "If I can Dream" is a good example, or "Peace in the Valley".

    Kevin.
