Why would they need to attack? AQ have nothing to gain from it. US would just start interning all the Muslim population and go attack another country if an attack was to ever take place. Terrorism takes the easiest form of attack that will induce the most terror.

The US is already worked up into a paranoid frenzy, AQ don't have to do crap to them, they are doing it to themselves. Take the bombs that didn't quite go off yesterday. On the news a lot of the Brits are "Ahh sure your scared, but wtf I have a life to live". Meanwhile in US NYC have imposed mandatory searches of all bags and Bush got his patriot act extended yesterday for 10 years with all the extra extensions they put into it.
So the US is now safe from attack because AQ have nothing to gain from doing so? They'll just keep hitting everywhere else to freak them out?

Well great. Now that they have so many resources freed up, the US can help the rest of Europe track down the terrorists that are indirectly terrorising them by bombing their allies.

    Hmmm.

Doesn't matter what level of protections you put in place. Terrorists will take the path of least resistance to cause terror.

The point is that the US administration is happily doing it for them.

To be honest I'd happily live with the remote chance of being killed by terrorists than to be stripped of my human rights. I stand a far greater chance of being killed on Irish roads but that doesn't stop me from travelling places, it's one primary example of how freedom is much more valuable than safety. Life will always be a risky game, it may not always be an enjoyable one.

Thats true in Ireland, but Americans are very willing to trade freedom for security. This probably leads them to believe that other nations will do the same.

If we had honest, transparent and competent govenments on both side's AND there was some public debate about this first, then, maybe, I'd be OK with it.

The way the world is today and the way this has just been enacted without any
public consultation leaves me feeling a tad uneasy :(

Our attack in the heart of the infidel British capital is nothing but a message to all European governments that we will not rest until all the infidel troops leave Iraq," said the statement by the Abu Hafs al-Masri Brigades dated today

You mean us lovable irish arent safe????

Remember these loons class us all as infidels, involved or not in any military alliance....

what are you on about? you think ireland is gonna get bombed i dont mean to sound like a carefree mick and your going to say "well you never know" but ill give you 20 quid if ireland gets attacked by terrorists because of the iraq war

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,264 ✭✭✭✭Hobbes

We help US warplanes ship cargo and troops to/from Iraq. So Ireland is to some extent helping the war in Iraq.

And probably ship people through Shannon to 3rd party countries for a wee spot of torture too.

Nothing to worry about though, it could never happen to you or me...

I think this is just another case of the usual anti-American idiots,

Here we go again. I'm concerned with civil liberties - the basis of any democracy. That does not make me anti-american. I am certainly opposed to most of the US governments foreign policies but I am not anti-American! If I object to actions of my own government does that make me anti-Irish. This is just a standard defence used by people who haven't a damn clue how to make a rational case.

Macros: don't bother. It's very clear from that quote who the idiot is.

True. But it might prevent other people from sliding down that slope ;)

In regard to the original post as I havnt read any of the replies,

I actually heard about this over a week ago and was just drop jawed, I cant believe they are going to put this into action.
if something can be done to stop this then I hope they do but at this stage it looks as if it will pass.

The only people that should be able to be extradited should be federal crime commiters, muderers and such...but unfortunatly I dont think it is going to be a pick and choose kind of law.

hmmm I dunno...wouldnt that be against the right to free press or something? I mean that would mean I couldnt say, bomb..whitehouse or murder and Bush in the same sentence.
where is the justice in that?

Lies I tell ya!!! all lies!!!!
the govenerment is controlling your minds!!!!!
    run now...oh dear....I hear footsteps,

has anyone heard anything much about this? When I first read the article I thought it must be an elaborate hoax/joke played by my mate who mailed me the link but sadly not it seems, a "few" and I mean very few people I've talked to over the last few days have also heard about it. I wouldn't consider myself to be the most up to date on current affairs, but I generally read at least the main features in at least one of the broadsheets each day. Not sure which scares me more about this, the actual implications of such an act on the sovereign rights of Irish citizens if this report is accurate, or the very limited amount of coverage it has seemed to recieve, perhaps I'm overreacting, but I would have thought the CIA being granted carte blanche in the state of Ireland (if true) would have warranted a tad more reaction from the news agencies???
Anyone know anything more about this?

Its a well known fact that Hitler toyed with the idea of using Ireland as a staging post for the invasion of GB. As far as I can remember he called it Operation Cabbage Patch. The irish Govt at the time had beefed up defences (It even took the armoured car that accompanied MC to Beal na Blath out of a museum :D). Churchill also planned to invade to nip Hs plan in the bud. There are probably some people who would have preferred Hitler to invade but GBs threat was enough to keep them at bay.

Yeah, I'm aware of those plans, but that doesn't back up your statement that countries had to protect Ireland during WW2.....

Surely the CIA do whatever they like whenever they like and have done for years. Why, I was watching that "24" just last week, and some chap called Jack Bauer was flouting all sorts of all international treaties and human rights acts in pursuit of some ALLEGED terrorists.

This latest report comes as no shock.

Fear is a powerful method of control. The Republicans in the US have capitalised on the 9/11 attacks to brainwash the average yank into thinking the nearby WAL-Mart is going to be targeted by Al-Qaeda. I suppose there were too many problems with internal control (eg. Oklahoma bombing) when the common enemy of the Soviet "gonna eat american babies" Union was taken out of the equation, so they had to find a new (more vague) enemy to rally the people against, and ensure Bush/Republican re-election.

Blair will get his ID cards and many other fascist methods of control now that the London bombs have gone off, so it's a win - win situation for the Anglo-American empire.

    Art imitating life? :)

Actually noticing a lot of US shows are now desensitising people to what HLS can do in regards to the new laws. First noticed it on 4,400.
