I'll be totally honest, it started out as a matter of principal, I didn't care about getting any money out of them. But if the Equality Comission want to award me compensation then it is a nice little bonus as far as I am concerned. I am not going to refuse. Be honest, would you? Same questions to Bazmo as well.

I'll be really really honest and say that if I was after making a complaint to the Equality Comission and I ended up being awarded money well then no I more than likely wouldn't refuse it. However, I most certainly wouldn't be giving out advise like.......
You should take a case against them next time it happens. I'm due a nice little compensation payout for something very similar.

To me that indicates that you are more concerned about the payment rather than the victory, but at the end of the day each to ther own I suppose.

My view is that if more people took cases against pubs/clubs then they would be less likely to refuse people for stupid reasons. The publicans are definitely going to change their attitude if they are hit in the pocket.

I'm not more concerned about the payment, but it is the iceing on the cake.

Have to agree with duckjob, so you didnt get into a club??So what, its not as if you lost a leg/arm.

fair enough if you didn't get in once or twice but if it's all the time ya have to admit you'd be fairly fúcking pissed off, I know I would.

    Very true.

    Also, this:
I don't think the relativly small amount I am getting is really going to make much of a dent in the profits of the "service provider" I took the case against. Believe me they make massive profits every year

...is the standard method of justification made by of serial claimers who refuse to see that cost of their little freebie gets added to all the other little freebies and ends up being passed on to the ordinary folk in the street.

As yes, payout for the 'trauma' caused. Were you psychologically scarred? You poor mite.

And while we're at it, lets all start jumping out in front of oncoming cars. That's got to be worth a few quid. After all, the world does owe us a living. woohooo...

Would you say the same thing if he was refused because he was black?

    Discrimination is discrimination

First "claim" I ever made, I'm not in the habit of it. And it wasn't a freebie, it's not as if I pretended to fall and injure myself or something like that. I was acting on a law passed by the Government that says it is illegal to discriminate against someone when providing a service because of their age.

How much are you getting?? 1-5k or more??

Not saying you're a serial claimer, but it doesn't do you any favours to trot the line about big multinationals etc, since it's very often used as an attempt at justification by insurance moneygrabbing types.

The fact is that your claim *doesn't* hit them in the pocket. they simply pass on the cost to their customers, they don't absorb it.

Ok, point taken. I do sound a bit like the serial claimers with what I said. I am not though I can assure you.

But do you agree that a few cases against a company will force them to change their policy? I know for a fact this company have changed their policy.

I've worked the doors, never had a claim against me for discrimination or anything else but there are some assholes working on doors just looking to fight/piss people off coz they've told me.

Most places I go to the bouncers on the front door are grand and never have any bother getting in to places (I'm 28 by the way). I have a general dislike for bouncers, not all, but some can just throw their weight about the place being on a power trip and all. Myself and 4 friends went to a pub on Saturday night (pub shall remain nameless as its not relevant anyway) for a friends birthday celebrations. Now, we used to go to his pub practically every weekend for a two yeart trot, but over the past 6 months or so have not been there. The bouncer at the door (one I have never seen before), says to us "sorry lads I don't recognise your faces there, when was the last time you were here". To this I was thinking to myself "well how long have you been working here for then as I don't recognise yours". I bit my tongue however, as if I were to have made my point you could rest assure I wouldn't be getting in. But instead said "we used to come up here all the time but haven't been here for about 6 months", and with that he grudgingly let us in.

Now, we do not look shifty at all, so why the hassle at the front door when there was no need.

Ever see Kevin and perry go large when the two girls are trying to get into the club?

Bouncer - sorry girls, no monsters.

    Girls - What???

Bouncer - "see this?" (holds up hand) "Ughh" (and pulls it away) "You offend my mirror"

Completely agree with you there Tincool.Even when i was working the door,if i was to go out on a night out,I'd have hassle getting in places. The whole i don't know you faces is a cop out anyway, how are you expected to become regulars if you can't get into the pub in the first place.

Also, the people working the doors wouldn't get into the place if they were to walk up coz the majority of them are scum.

There's a lot of crap on this thread about how you should just put up with being discriminated because "sure, it's not doing you any real harm...". Doormen in this country are poorly trained, poorly regulated and think they're gods gift. They seem to think its their right to go on a power trip whenever they feel like it and to ruin someones night because "they feel like it".

Grow up lads, if I was discriminated against clearly on the grounds of age/sex/?colour? then I would use my right to seek retribution by whatever means the law allows. I am entitled to do that.

The mind boggles. Your right though, and bouncers are scum.

I worked as a boucer before, breifly and I left because I realised quickly that most boucers lets say 3 in 5 are scum bags who dont have the intellegance to do anything else and that they were out to have a little bit of power.

Have to agree with you there, brainless doesn't even cover it.

Load of cr*p lads. Bouncers are people. Some people are w*nkers, some people are ok.

The reason there are so many horror stories of bouncers being idiots is because when they aren't it goes unnoticed. I have to say in my experiences with pubs (and it is quite extensive) I've encountered a lot more decent bouncers than not.

And by the way, helter skelter, they didn't let you in? Cry me a f*cking river. That kind of claiming makes me sick. People have defended you saying that if you were black, you'd be entitled to claim and I agree. The difference is though, the bouncer didn't like the look of you, not based on skin colour. He was probably using a generic refusal statement beacause he thought that you might be a trouble-maker or something along those lines.

I know that people feel aggrieved when it is against them but I'd rather bouncers made judgement calls with people they think will cause trouble as even if they are right one time in five, it cuts the chance of troublemakers ruining a night out for everyone.

Try reading the posts next time before you start giving lectures...my claim has nothing to do with being refused from a pub or club.

Why? Cos I stood up for myself and my rights? I think the whole thing wrong with this country is that people bitch and complain about things on forums like this but do nothing about it in real life.

I worked as a doorman at weekends for about 6 years and I can safely say that the "doorman community" as such are no more rude, bitter or nasty than the general public at large. In fact I would say they are less so - especially considering the crap that they have to deal with from the pissed-up public.

And as for not having the intelligence to do anything else - well I'm a computer programmer and I've worked on the door with barristers, musicians, neurolinguistic programmers, etc. etc. All that your well thought generalisations do is fuel the argument that doormen probably SHOULD treat you like crap.

We need the name of this club so we can object to its licence renewal for allowing 15 year olds in.

    ok grandad

Bouncing is the sort of job where its hard to get credit. Someone will always be pissed off with ya, when 9 times out of 10 your jus doin your job. Also i wouldnt worry about a bouncer coming off elitist, as he has to be rock solid and unswayed in his opinion, and reasoning with people, being nice etc is just not an option

True. I was polite, helpful and friendly when I started working on the door. As the rudeness and shoddy treatment of the public started to ware me down over the years, I became less and less friendly and eventually I just started being cynical and just as rude as some (see a lot) of the people I had to deal with on a nightly basis.

That's when I stopped working on the door... because it's not in my nature to be a total asshole. But I can completely empathise with doormen who are. You have to be to do that job I'm afraid. And if the people of Dublin have a particular problem with doormen... well, they've only got themselves to blame. Maybe as a collective we should all try to be more friendly, less rude and not be beating the living s**t out of each other after a few too many pints and then having a go at the doormen by abusing them or trying to throw a punch.
