Dropping out of college is no big deal. It's better he did that then go on for another few years in a course he disliked. The pay seems reasonable... I don't know what hte minimum wage in Ireland is these days but last I heard it was something stupidly high. At 17 I was still in school so I wasnt going to work full time. I start my first long term full time employment next month... suffice to say its a good bit more then what you are getting :) and I'm 21

For the record, Im sure most of you hadnt acheived this at 17 in any case, and keep that in mind - Im 17.

Untrue, at 17 I was happily still in school *and* earning 50+ euro an hour fixing computers/installing networks etc. ion my own time. I was my own boss, worked whenever I wanted and it still didnt get in the way of my studies...

So TBH Id say I achieved MORE than you since I wasnt (and still am not) a drop-out, but I earn easily more than 20k a year, I work for myself, I have a nice car, speedboat (50/50 investment)...AND im still doing my studies!

From what I can see your young ane nieve (sp?).... You see money so you think 'Fcuk college... I can earn money' ... You wont regret it for a few years until all your friends have real jobs earning real salary and your stuck in a rut because youve no qualification apart from 'public sector experience' on your CV.

    Think about it

This thread is going to promote a lot of boasting! But then again, that is what it was about in the first place... :D

If you'd actually read the thread properly you would have seen that he said he's gonna save up money so he can do a course he actually wants to do - he doesn't plan to be in that job for the rest of his life. Stop being so nasty to him, he was just asking a question

haha, what a thread, all this from a little, "am I unusual angst?"
    Priceless...

Just out of interest, mobile infantry what course were u doing and what are u going back to do?
Also what exactly are you doing in the public sector??

Fair play to you mate. A lot of the biggest earners in this country never finished any schooling at all. People should not knock you for anything. If you hated the course you were in, you had the balls to stand up and leave it. Not to get stuck in a **** career that you never liked and resent it for the rest of your life.

Stop knocking the dude, he only asked a simple question.

    :)
Dude, you just answered your own question. If you think most of us hadn't achieved that at the age of 17, then it IS unusual and you know it.

So guys, this IS just a bragging session.

    agreed

I dont live in Dublin. Being 17 I still live at home and the money goes solely towards whatever I want it too.
If you are paying your own way and paying for your own education and not relying on mammy and daddy then that would be unusual for a 17 year old in Ireland these days.

We can debate the semantics of the word achieve if you like, but enough of this gay banter...

You must have been 16 when you entered college? I think even 18 is too young to decide on a college course/career for alot of people. I know plenty of people who are miserable in there chosen course. Think carefully this time and best of luck!

    /me wishes he'd done chemistry....

I find it hard to believe pretty much anyone on this thread. 17 is an incredibly young age to have dropped out of college and found a job at over 20k a year. And it's nothing to be proud of. Find a course you like and get a job you like. A decent paying one. Lets face it, 20k a year isnt great.

Thanks. I'm glad you approve. You don't need to reply to all my good posts though. I'd hate to use up your time.
