I used to identify with good old Holden but I read it again recently and he actually really pisses me off!
I think I could be julia roberts in "My best friend's wedding" tbh

Either her or Clay from the book "Less than zero"

If I may meander slightly off topic for a second, I'm just wondering what pissed you off about it? And why you think he's .. umm.. immature I guess is what you are saying?

He is acting his age I guess so he isn't really immature as such but he certainly isn't acting like an adult. When I was younger I related because of the knowledge I had then now I am older I know more. He is from a well to do family self involved and hasn't a clue. Now he just seems whiney and the conformast view of the world he has is also really black and white and I would say inaccurate. He appears like a poor little rich kid to me now and not some torture soul trying to figure out life.
I prefer Kevin Arnold as he does stupid things with the adult prospective pointing out the problems and or logic.

What fictitional characters remind you of yourself? I think we all have movies/books/stories we love because we can really identify with the main character. For me it'd be the character of Rob in High Fidelity (both the book and the film), or Harry in Tony Parsons' "Man & Boy".

So, which characters do you think are quite similar to yourself?

I just seen the title of the thread and before opening it I said, Rob from High Fidelity....

After this weekend, I'm definitely feeling like Rob. I now have to go into work on Monday and face the new girl after waking up beside her yesterday morning. Now, this in itself wouldn't normally bother me. The problem is, I've a blackout from Friday night so I've no idea what anyone else knows. Hopefully, we managed to be discreet about leaving together, for her sake more than mine. Man, why is my sex life always so messy...

I agree with that to a certain extent. I mean I still cry at the end of the book every time and all but when I was younger the tears were for Holden and now they're more almost just tears of nostalgia.
To me now I just see Holden as a kid who thinks deeply about life and "mature" issues but in a slightly immature and sheltered fashion.
