    WELL OBVIOUSLY....

and slane started out as a respecable rock gig, anyone who played there earned their way there, now its just crap,

in fairness ****in westlife could sell the place out so its not just about making money,

mcd would be retards to bring ac/dc. they're a business, not fans of music.

I suppose it is not set in stone that Slane is a rock venue - traditionally it was, and traditionally rock bands were the ones that filled big venues like Slane. Heard the term 'Stadium Rock' as a music genre, right? Acostics-wise loud guitars sound great and are best at filling a large venue with sound, i reckon.

It's true Eminem is hugely popular at the moment, but I think MCD would have numerous criteria for who they bring to Slane. I wonder exactly what they are. AC/DC may be a better choice for them as they have not played here in a long time (as opposed to Eminem, who played last year) so the demand may be higher, have on average (imo) an older fanbase than Eminem, who would perhaps be more likely to buy tickets etc. What do you reckon, thinking about it objectivley?

There has been rumours going around that AC/DC might play because the Today FM website put up a petition to bring AC/DC to Slane this year. There was at least one boards.ie thread discussing it:

I ****ing hate that stupid idiot, and everything he represents. I'm not a massive fan of AC/DC, but I defo. would make the drive.

Really, there's no one announced to play this country that I'm interested in seeing this Summer, at all. Now, I'm slighty picky -- granted -- but I'd glady throw down the money for a middling band, if it gave me the opportunity to have a bit of fun, get drunk, at Slane or Witness or whatever. But I just can't see it this time. Nope.

Christ, and has Slane been going downhill or what?

    1992: Guns N' Roses
    1993: Neil Young
    1995: R.E.M

    1999: Robbie Williams
    2000: Bryan Adams
    2001: U2
    2002: The Stereophonics
    2003: Red Hot Chili Peppers
    2004: Madonna
    2005: Eminem

i dont see why eminem shouldn't play Slane..I went to see him in 2003 and he was a very good performer....ac/dc are good but it is true that eminem would probably sell mmore tickets and thats what it comes down to for the organisers...Shud be a laugh anyways and i'll definately be queueing for tickets...

Slane in my opinion is getting worse by the year. Lat year, it was Madonna and now Eminem. Why don't they just give up altogether!!!

Just thinking about it theres not many bands that are exciting who could fill Slane anyway.
I mean that would get me excited about going. U2 again maybe. The Rolling stones if they were up to it. No one else comes to mind at the momentbut then the brain is melted after a days work.
Any other suggestions other than AC/DC ;)

    hmm... maybe Black Sabboth....

Perhaps Velvet Revolver... (Actually I'd say Black Sabboth being supported by VR would fill it)

Also, I don't like them, but I'm sure Green Day would fill Slane.

I think there's one element missing from this thread..... evolution.

Who ever said Slane was a rock venue. The reason that the majority of acts who have there have been "rock" is because they played there during the 80's and early 90's! Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against rock music but it's the 21st century and as many people have pointed out Slane is a commercial venture.

A lot of ppl on this board seem to think they have been wronged my Mssrs Desmond and Green, but lets face facts, a concert of this size tends to require an artist/band who is selling the most records at the time; I mean Bryan Adams??? Pound for pound Eminem is probably the biggest selling artist at the moment or at least close and given MCD's key demographic of 16 - 35 year olds who have the most dispoable income it's really not hard to see the logic.

If they can get him that is....

    Performer!?!?!....hahahahahaha!

You'd call someone singing along to a backing track a 'performer'?
    Funny ****.

    Who needs more suggestions?
All you need is one big name band that happens to be o tour at the moment.

    AC/DC fit that bill perfectly.

It is a kind of performance. AKA karaoke.

Ah in fairness he IS a performer and i'm sure he puts on a great show for his fans. Any live footage from real gigs (not mtv music awards) he looked like he performed very well

personally i'd like to seee them import the saturday lineup from download

    That would be outstanding!

What about the current incarnation of Queen? Rumour has it that they'll be playing in Ireland and Scotland later this year...

Argh. Just, argh. I thought that Madonna might be the penance that we all had to pay, but I was wrong. Eminem really will be the absolute nadir. ****.

I see... good insight there.

Thus proving the point that Slane will be crap

I thought Oasis would have been the obvious choice to play Slane this year but the fact they are playing Marlay Park rules that one out.
Personally, I'd rather see AC/DC play a gig rather than Eminem, but if you were organising Slane who would you trust more to sell it out?

If you have ever seen any ac/dc live show, even a video, you will see what these guys are on about. They have a lot of visual aspects, too. Like the cannon, the giant rosie, the hells-bell and so on.

I'd prefer to see someone like eminem in a smaller venue (i know thats not going to happen, but hey!)

Oh that shady-guy, with his grand total of one post needs to learn some grammar, spelling and general life skills.

Kiss could headline it, or Aerosmith. I think a classic rock act would be great, to have play.
I agree there arent as many stadium filling bands nowadays as there used to be though.

Whatever happened to that every second year is good thing?
Other than robbie williams of course.
