Keoghs gets my vote. Like stepping back into the 'rare auld times'... Guinness is good too even though I don't drink the pi$$!

Perhaps I'm missing the point but can anyone enlighten me as to why the thread titled 'Favourite Bar?' features a poll with options restricted to watering holes in Dublin alone?

There is an Ireland outside Dublin you know. My favourite bar at the moment is probably the Beerkeeper in Dundalk ( www.beerkeeper.ie ) which has a great atmosphere, lovely decor, and over 100 beers from around the world (including Staropramen from Prague, a recent addition to my list of favourites :) ).

    => Atari Jaguar, tbh.

Sorry about the headline, as you can probably see, I'm limited on how many options on a poll.

Btw, my favourite bar is Shebeen in Vienna.

If I had to choose in Dublin it would be Nearys, but I left Dublin 'cause I was sick of the kind of people who would argue over what is the coolist pub. After all when yer all **** faced ye don't look very cool do ye!!! :D

I'm afraid i think most of those bars suck bigtime (IMHO:)).....my fav bar would be Neds of Townend st or perhaps Mulligans on poolbeg St. Also really like McCloskey's and Slattey's over beside Beggars Bush. So it will be ATARI JAGUAR for me too. :D

Its all about Solas (formerly The modern Green Bar). The food is quality and is quite cheap too. Stay away from the cheap "Solas Lite" beer though, gives you nasty hangovers.

Mulligans do the finest pint of Guinness in the land as far as I'm concerned.. and I've tried it in many many different pubs..

Neds of Townsend St: Don't they claim to open at 7am? I rememeber standing outside that pub at opening time one morning. Freezing cold, I just wanted a hot whiskey to warm me cockles.. They didn't open. I wasn't happy.

Agreed, Solas does make a tasty burger.

Ned's, Mulligans and Slattery's are all fine establishments too.

I voted for Whelan's for the simple fact that it's become our college canteen. We go there for lunch most days the girl who works there loves us and gets us giant bowls of soup and has started laying on brown bread with the soup especially for us. If we ask for chips, huge portions appear. She also pulls an excellent pint and doesn't complain if someone (okay me) asks for a hot port to help cure my cold.

I also love the new fireplace and they usually have good music playing all of the above combined with a relanxed atmosphere make it a home away from home. :D

    Where is Atari Jaguar?

The palace bar on fleet street is brill. Carnival on 'the strip' is good also - I wish they'd re-open their beergarden though!

what about places like the porterhouse (has one of the best selections of alcohol ever) or the ha'penny bridge inn (great staff, and a brilliant comedy night on thursday) or fibbers (which is just a great pub)...

yer poll is missing some great pubs

Atari jaguar is just a Boards in-joke......in a poll it means "Other".

The Harbour Bar is a nice spot. A mate of mine plays down there every second Sunday.
Gets a bit overcrowded though on occasion, and can be a bit pokey. Nice conservatory area though, and some fine women frequent the place regularly. Certainly one of the nicer pubs in Bray.

    What's Fibbers like these days?
I was there a couple of times years ago, and it was real Indie orientated, but I've heard it's exclusively rock these days.
It's one of my locals, and have only been in for an afternoon pint on my own recently. When I did, there were two lads trying to beat eachother up at the bar..
    Is this a regular occurance?

    Kev.

depends where you are. when the rock part downstairs opens there might be a rare drunken fight but it ends quickly. but upstairs is a standard pub and can have a fair few older drunken scum floating about the place who dont mind a fight. so drink downstairs, great bar and great people.

Well it's not my favourite bar in Dublin but my favourite out of all of them would be Hogans.

    Yes you cheeky sh*te!

Great spot for a late cocktail or two, as is Sin. Sin used to open until 4 until recently, so while I was downing double Johny Walker's at 3 in the morning, you were all stumbling out of Whelan's cursing ths fact that you didn't get to stay for the lock-in... ;)

Magpie, I can't believe I agree with you!
But the whole trendy bar scene, its really hard to digest for me. I worked in Renards for a year, led the life still didn't like it.
