I was thinking that coupled with that wireless signal sender job might be handy. If i lay any more cable around the house my fiance will kill me! :D

Looks excatly the same as the Aver TV one that I got in maplins last year for 45 euro (even the remote looks the same) ...if it is its not a bad little card at all..

One I got was only mono IF this is stereo then a real bargain.

I just popped into the local store to get one of these cards, there were none :(
But I just checked the link again, and the offer doesn't start until 13th Jan.
    Nice one!

FFS, I just paid €85 for a Skystar 2. Someone please tell me the Skystar 2's are better for some reason or another. :(

The skystar 2 is a satellite card

I just read the description and it sounds the exact same as the Skystar 2. Anyway, you'd know I'm not well up on these things. :)

it's not the same thing, anyway what are the connections on the aldi card ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,711 ✭✭✭Dr. Dre

The skystar is a digital card (DVB). Mind you, €85 seems a bit steep for that card.

Well if you had any recordings on video tape, you could use this card to get them on to your PC in mpeg (or whatever) format. e.g. allowing you to create a VCD/DVD* of that particular recording after you've edited it within a video editing package.

*Obviously this does not mean DVD quality, just that you could burn it onto one.

    What model is the card?
    Hardware encoding capabilities?
    Linux support?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 634 ✭✭✭AB03

Says it'll record to mpeg4 which means divx/xvid.
Sounds good, dunno how capable it'd be tho. Gonna pick one up if I can get to a lidl in time.

    Check it out:

I used my video card during F1 races last year, also when watching the Footy. Its great to have live tv beside live info imo

I have a Tv near my pc aswell but this saves electricity, not much but its a good excuse to get the card. Its also great for recording programs from the tv and then putting clips on the net, for instance... Red Dwarf Clip

I'm not sure but will this card take Coax? Basic Ntl cable?

    Model?

Hardware encoding capabilities? - see website, MPEG 1,2,4

Linux support? - looks like a BTC based card, if it is then it will work nicely.

Might be a stupid question but...

Would you be able to use the card to play a PS2 on the computer monitor?

I assume you'd need an RF cable or something?

I got one of these when de had them last year....easy 2 install and never had a problem with it. Good piece of equipment.

It would be nice to be able to share the tv connection over the computer network but I doubt it has that capability

It just creates an mpeg stream. Of course you can share it across a network.

The real advantage of a card like this would be to turn your PC into a PVR, like a tivo, replaytv or sky+. Pause, rewind live TV, record whole series of a show etc.

Check out http://www.mythtv.org/ for some good PVR software. XMLTV has all the UK channels, all its missing is the RTEs and TV3.

Having no knowledge on this, do you need an external aerial to tune in card - if so, I expect it tunes in just local TV, or is there an internal tuner?
what's anyone's exp of using this?

Even portable TV's need an aerial plugged in - weather it's NTL or the one on the back of the TV.
    It's a tuner on a card.
It will pick up the same channels as a TV or Video using the same Aerial.

I think this is the card from the Orgional Manufacturer . The specs look a bit high for a tv card i might be pushing it with a P3 1000 mhz
