    got it. Ask one guy an obvious question ie. what is 2+2 (thanks for the idea) and if he answers 4 he tells the truth. Then ask the other guy which is the safe door. Take the other one.

    If the guy answers anything other than 2 then he is the lier, so ask the other guy which is the safe door and take it.

    YES!!

    You're only allowed one question, look back a few posts I got it.

    My... Brain.... owwwww

    Ask one guard "If I ask the other guard is he lying, will he tell me an answer the same as yours but different so that when I do the opposite of what you tell me is the opposite of what he tells me if I'm asking the lying guard who's not telling me the opposite of what you're telling me is opposite?"

    He'll be too confused and just tell you which door...

    You only get to ask one question IN TOTAL. Not one question to each guard.

    I think Blub2k4 got it

    You only ask one question THINK about it. Both will always point you the right way so it doesnt matter which you ask.........

    You're in a room with two doors. One leads to instant death, one to safety. Each door is guarded by a guard. You're allowed ask one question to either of them. One of them always lies, one always tells the truth, but you don't know which is which.
    How do you find out which door leads to safety?

    Ask which door the other guard would tell you to go through. Whichever door he says choose the opposite one, because

    if the guard you ask is the honest one, then the fact that the other guard picked a door meant he was lying.

    If the guard you ask is the lying one then the answer he gives you is incorrect anyway and you still choose the other door

    Damn it! Your right!

    I read the riddle wrong, thought it was one question each. Kudos.

    So its your turn then!

    Snuip!

    You have 9 marbles: 8 of them weigh 1 ounce each; 1 weighs 1.1 ounce. The 9 marbles are all the same size, appearance and shape. You have access to a balance scale containing 2 trays - you may use the balance ONLY 2 times. You must determine which of the 9 marbles is the heavier one using the balance ONLY 2 times.

    dont know any to ask sorry, it's open to the floor.

    9 marbles split them into three groups of three marbles
    put one group on either side of the scales

    If the heavier marble is on either side it will fall.

    If nothing happens it's in the third group.

    Either way now that you know the heavy group take two marbles from it and put one one each side of the scales

    if one side is heavier that is the heavier marble otherwise it is the third unweighed marble

    Take two groups of 3 marbles at random
    weigh 3 against 3

    If (one group is heavier then contains 1.1 ounce){
    take 2 out of three and weigh one against other.
    If ones heavier its 1.1 ounce else one left out is
    }
    else{
    take 2 out of three left out first time and weigh one against other.
    If ones heavier its 1.1 ounce else one left out is
    }

    well ive got it down to between 2 marbles but thats it!

    Basically, put for marbles in each side of the balance so your left with 1!if the balance is balanced so to speak, the heavy one is in your hand!if the balance seems to tip to one side, the heavier one is on that side!get rid of the other four of them and this time with the remaining four split them into 2 on each side and see which is heavier which would leave it between the two of em! :confused:

    oops, that was a lot of replies that came in before mine! :o

    A quick one while we're waiting for the next..

    Two parents and their 2 kids have come to a river, and they find a boat. It is small and can only carry one adult or 2 kids at a time. Both kids are good rowers, but how can the whole family reach the other side of the river?

    This isn't the leaving cert you know?

    I don't suppose these are metaphorical marbles? And the heaviest marble represents the hatred I have for my father???

    eh... could you put 4 marbles on each tray and see if they balance. If they do then the remaining marble is the heavy one. If they don't well.. eh.. umm... remove all the lighter ones as they are now out of the equation... so we're left with 4 possible candicates... anyone else got any ideas of how to take it further with just one weighing left?

    a man is carrying three pieces of gold each piece weighing one kilogram. While taking a walk he comes to a bridge which has a sign posted saying the bridge could hold only a maximum of 80 kilograms. He weighs 78 kilograms and the gold weighs three kilograms. He reads the sign and still safely crossed the bridge with all the gold in one trip. How did he manage this?
