out of interest i just downloaded a beheading about a month ago. i have to say it was the most brutal disgusting barbaric thing i've ever saw in my life. i felt for the plight of these people. not any more. if they want to kill people why can't they use a bullet in the back of the head. felt physically sick. never seen anything like it. never want to again. don't look at these things

Yeah, i saw Nick Berg's beheading a few months back and felt physically sick!

Once it started, i guess the curious side of me took over!

    Really regretted watching it then!

Yeah same here. When I heard of beheadings I usually thought of bag over the head, quick slice of sword, bag falls into basket. Was totally unprepared for the reality of it.

It's a calculated act, designed to elicit such responses in order to provoke violent reaction (and therefore further destabilise the region), to turn public opinion against those political leaders who made little attempts to secure the release of the poor souls being beheaded, and perhaps to attempt to bring home the realities of violent death to the video game war generation.

Personally I have no desire to download any of them out of interest or for voyeristic pleasure. If nobody downloaded them, it would be far more likely that the hostages would receive a quick and relatively painless execution.

    I have to ask...

What did you expect? A nice polite meeting of large sword and westerner's neck?

Thats like saying "I downloaded child porn there last week, its sick. Don't be looking at that."

Beheading somebody is a cruel and inhuman act, but then in fairness, a bullet wouldn't be much more humane, would it? :(

honestly i do think a bullet to the back of the head would be more humane. without a doubt.

also i did imagine a sword and a single swipe.

all i'm doing is warning people not to look at these things.

I've seen Nick Berg and Daniel Pearls and maybe I'm just desensitised by too much Premiership football but I wasn't as shocked by the violence in either as I had expected to be. But back on topic sure they could put a bullet to the head but then what'd be the point if they don't elicit and an appropriately disgusted/terrified/angered reaction from you?

Cos a bullet in the head is pretty terrifying for me.

Yes, but moreso than a beheading that with a knife can take at least several seconds do complete?

    RIP...

And people say the human race is advancing. You'd have to look pretty far back to see this kind of savagery.
However, did anyone else see the footage of the F16 bombing the people in the street. You know, the "highly trained militants" who were walking in the middle of a wide street with a team of rangers and fighter jets. Aye, militants.

Similar kind of scum. One man with a knife, or 30 people with a bomb from a mile away.
At least his suffering ended after a minute or two. some of those casualties from the air to ground missle were sat bleeding to death for god knows how long.

I douth any of those people lived past the first few seconds of that bomb going off it was right in the middle of the group and seemed to be quite powerful

very true, after watching those vids I wouldn't mind goind out that way myself, 30 seconds is a pretty quick death, not as fast as a bullet in the head but pretty fast none the less, as for how shocking the vids are, yea the first time you see one, but they just get boring after a while

Never said it is but i was replying to

Im just saying its unlikely any of those people would be left bleeding to death on the road for god knows how long it would more than likely be over quite quick from the vid i seen. (F*ck its sh*t we even have to talk about this and HOPE these people didnt suffer to much while being bombed / beheaded)

    just human nature?

yep, tribal by nature, same as troupes of chimps, if they knew how to use modern weapons the result would be the same

    No.

I should have been more coherent when I linked your two quotes. Its indicitive of the manner to which we have become accustomed to violence that it takes a beheading to terrify us, and not "just" a shooting.

    :(

It would take them a while to work out how to post it on the interweb though

Perhaps, but it still doesn't change the point that whether one is accustomed to shootings or not that the beheading method would still make MORE of an impact than just a simple shooting as it is a more brutal and protracted form of execution - hense making it a more desirable method for these people to use.

The BIG problem with these murders & beheading videos & stuff is that everyone identifies these murderers as 'Muslim terrorists'. This links these two words in your head, perpetuating the religious prejudice.
Its really not that far from the IRA grabbing unionists off the street, making them kneel over their own graves with their hands tied behind their back & shooting them in the back of the head.
The worst part would be the terror of knowing that within seconds you will suffer a violent death. Knife or bullet, the difference is 10 seconds at most.
But do we immedietly think 'terrorist' when we hear 'catholic' ?
No, because most of the people in the country are catholics but the vast majority are not terrorist or murderers.

if you are going to make comparisons why not make them real and not upon some figment of your imagination

It speaks volumes that the website these beheadings are downloaded from also links to a rape fetish page.

There's also some very gruesome video that have been around for a few years of Chechen terrorists cutting the throats of Russian captives. And then they're upset that their country is a sh|t-heap.

If I was in that situation I hope I would meet my end like one of the Italians they murdered earlier this year (though they shot him). He said something like "I'll show you how an Italian dies" in other words "go f*ck yourselves". Respect!

I have not seen the Kenneth Bigley video, the following is a comment on the beheading video that was realised earlier this year...

The beheading video that was all over the Internet a few months ago that depicted an American having his head sawed off was a fake. I remember I downloaded it at the time and I couldn't believe that all these Americans who had seen it and expressed shock at it had not noticed the fact that there was no blood in the video  There was a couple of other mistakes that I cannot recall at the moment but it was definitely a fake...

In regard to the Kenneth Bigley situation, the definition of a terrorist is somebody who uses terror to change a society's way of life. By refusing to negotiate with these terrorists the British government was doing their best to ensure that the terrorists did not acheive this goal. Unfortunately the British and Irish press did not have the same viewpoint, and used the situation to their advantage by using sensationalist journalism to sell newspapers....Billy Connolly was illustrating this in his infamous comment, which unfortunately has been taken out of context by a lot of people...
