People need to learn how to type.
Seriously, I get the whole abreviated thing. But "wos", I mean it takes the same amount of key strokes to type "was". I dislike having to decode your secret txt language. Theres a nice big keyboard in front of you, with keys waiting to be pushed.

I'm the most chilled person I know, but: "der wos very good apmasfear"? I despair for the future of this country if that's the best that can be done. "they wos no life to them bure crap they were" - I can safely say that I had a higher standard of spelling than this when I was 7 or 8 years old.

Aren't 'Apmasfear' a Lithuanian black metal band?

I myself was offered a free ticket but couldn't be arsed going. Talked to three people who did go today and not one of them had anything good to say. All of them reckon it was vastly undersold and wouldn't go back again.

Butbutbutbut MCD and the papers said it was good and sold out andandandand brilliant and stuff...

Obviously your friends don't know a good show, and you should take your news from promoters and journalists who got free tickets....:D

I just hope loads of horrible little touts bought tickets in bulk thinking it would sell out.

They must have done. I was checkin ebay all the previous week and there were a fair amount up there. The papers said that 75000 people attended - capacity was 80K...and y'know yerself how in some cases the numbers are bumped up...(i.e. undersold concerts and drug finds!)

She actually didnt appear on stage until half 9, an hour late! I was watching the clock!! And then she was off at 11.05. Although it was an hour and a half all she played was about 9 songs and even they weren't her best ones some I didnt even recognise! Also I don't know if this is typical of Madonna but she never even did an encore, not that the crowd asked for one cause I think they were all pretty pissed off at this stage. I thought it was just strange thats all!

There were 26 pieces for the Madonna set at Slane and there were vocals to 23 of them. She used a live-vocal backing track for the songs with energetic dance routines (Vogue, Nobody Knows Me and Die Another Day), so she actually performed live for most of the show. Even with a backing track she still sings over it. It is used to enhance the performance due to the dance routine and the effort they take.

I personally think the show was amazing and apart from the rain (which wasn't that bad) and the dreadful Iggy Pop, I had a fantastic time.

There were obviously people at Slane who don't actually like Madonna - why the hell did they go? Plus, everyone and his granny knew that The Darkness had pulled out.

This was never going to be a normal Slane event and anyone who went expecting that was sure to be disappointed - it was first and foremost a Madonna show. I'm sure the Madonna fans weren't disappointed.

My friend must have been mistaken. I'll tell her she was wrong and that she didn't enjoy the gig at all.

Are you taking the píss? She actually mimed for three songs. What a joke. Madonna: a washed-up FRAUD.

Please do, could you also confirm if she was actually there?!

Alot of mixed opions there..... We'll I was near the front for the first hour and it was very good apart from some songs where she wasn't even on the stage singing them. She did mime some songs due to the dancing she had to do which is fair enough....Moved to the back near the end of the show and the difference was unbelivable!! The sound was really bad, alot of echoes and the timing was a second or two out... There was quite a few people leaving but I wouldn't blame them if they stayed at the back for the whole show...

So I recommend if you ever goto slane NEVER STAY AT THE BACK!!! ;)

So she did mime. Absolutely ridiculous. Ever heard of a guitarist miming because the chords were too difficult to sing to at the same time? You were conned, and I'd demand my money back if I was you. Madonna = Fraud.

Dancing requires different use of your lungs than playing guitar. It is considerably easier to play guitar and sing, than it is to do a complex dance routine and sing.

Doesn't matter, you went to a gig where the singer pretended to sing. You were conned.

she was fantastic, she sang better that most I have seen sing live. Ace gig, media turned on it after it didnt sell out in one day and people have run with the negative buzz since...

I was there as was most of my office mates and we all had a laugh and thought it was a great show....

I disagree Gunn4r, I think the media turned on it for the same reason I did: the sheer greed. €90 for two has-beens and a guy putting on CD's? Add bus fare of a tenner, a burger and chips at another tenner and a couple of warm pints of bad beer for another 20 and you've paid €130; the same price of a camping ticket to the 3 days of Oxegen. Granted, the only entertainment on the first night was Jerry Fish & the Mudbug Club (who were excellent by the way) but if we can take Iggy Pop and Paul Oakenfold to be regarded as worthwhile acts, I think Jerry Fish can definitely be considered an extra night at Oxegen.

Slane this year was a joke. Mountbatten has a bloody steep mountain to climb next year to win back the Irish concert-goer!

Someone obviously didn't see Belle & Sebastian. I would pay the full weekend ticket price to see them again.

I paid €180 for Glastonbury this year. Countless stages, and hundreds of acts over 4 days. A washed-up, over-hyped mime-artist charged €90 for Slane - you were all ripped off, and I've no sympathy.

    No I wasn't because I didn't go.

I wasn't complimenting her or decrying guitarists, what I was saying is that miming while dancing is completely different to miming while playing guitar. That's a fact. Three songs out of over twenty isn't a huge amount, and hardly amounts to a con.

When I saw David Bowie there was a segment at the start that implied the band was on stage rehearsing for the gig, does the fact that it was a fabrication mean I was conned then?

I thought everbody knew she mimed!! She's been at it for years. Anyone remember the late 80's when everbody was freakin out about the same thing??

People were conned, ripped off and insulted, as always is the way with MCD, and most organisers of gigs.

When are the people gonna do something about it?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,281 ✭✭✭PullMyFinger!

Remember her at Live Aid - the girl cant sing live full stop. If I tried I probably could of blagged 2 freebies for this but I wasnt arsed. A sham of a lineup.

Sensible promotion would be to make it more teenage orientated next year - Justin, Usher, Beyonce, 50 Cent and Eminem could have filled it no problem. Not my taste overall but MCD would get 100 Euros for that kind of bill, hell Eminem could do it on his own with one of the above!

For what its worth Im pretty sure Michael Jackson mimed to some songs in Landsdowne circa '93
