just wondering if anyone has seen this video yet... it’s a Boeing 737 (I think) landing badly. Is it for real or some sort of Photoshop, mpeg style !! Needless to say, the pilot needs more practice :dunno:

    Video ( 1.5Megs )

    is that real

fcuk me i won't have liked to be on that

Dunno, looks kinda faked to me. The bounces look too fast or something. The third bounce is higher than the second, and I reckon the nose wheel strut would collapse with the force of those bounces.

Well he's coming in too fast, then putting the brakes on way too hard. Also at the high speed, the plane ain't meant to be on the ground, so its still got lift. I'd say both of those *could* cause it to bounce a bit.

EDIT: yeah look at the smoke comin' off those brakes. I'd say it's real.

Either that's high winds, or some serious emergency landing. Looks like the kind of landing I'd do in a flight sim.

Think that video's speeded up a little?

That is well fake. tha plane bounces way too fast.
also the front wheel would not be able to handle that sort of pressure 2/3 times and would give it.
Don'#t think its a 737 either.. too small

Thats not real theres no way the front landing gear would take the weight of big aircraft (maybe 50-100 ton) bouncing up and down like that

If that really happened it be on the news and on newspapers all over the world.

But good job to the guy who made that

Why? - it looks old, could you imagine the headlines "An airliner has a rough landing 7 years ago - wow!!!". Just because something didn't get on to Sky News doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Says you - a car can be bounced up and down like that onto it's front wheels and it will still be OK, granted a plane is bigger but I'd say planes are built to take quite some punishment in case of bad landings. After all they can carry 300 or so people - that's some serious responsibilty.

heavy landings yes but i dont think it would be designed to bounce like that on just its front landing gear

I'd say its real enough -

This is a heavy landing. Apparently it's an MD 80 test flight landing at Edwards AFB.

its computer generated....the shading is wrong for real life, the fog doesnt look right, you can't see the shimmering from the hot air that should be coming off the engines, and as someone else said you can hear people laughing in the background...

do you watch films for mistakes?

That's because they are watching it and are astonished by what they are seeing - what you think that ppl who are generating this on their PCs decided to add their laughter for......?

I never know boards.ie had so many aviation safety specialists!

I think it is real but it may be speeded up a little. The reason it bounces is because the pilot is pressing on and off the breaks every second...probably cause he doesn't want the plane to skid out of control...the front gear gets more and more damaged , by the end it is almost bent 90 degrees...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,277 ✭✭✭DiscoStu

that's a fake. the real md-80 video shows the vibratations running up the fuselage before the tail breaks off. the plane in the other video is totally rigid throughout the landing and appears to hit the ground multiple times with similar force to md-80 crash.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,867 ✭✭✭Third_Echelon

The MD-80 seems to hit the ground more 'dead-on' at a faster speed which would cause what happened i.e. the tail breaking off etc... it was a very steep descent...

The boeing landing looks real enough... he is coming in at a lot slower pace than the MD-80 was... he was still going faster than he should be though...

His descent was a lot more gradual and not as steep as the MD-80... I could believe that this is what would happen in that particular situation... fair play for landing that with nasty cross-winds...

The landing gears would more than likely be well ****ed after that though, but it would take a lot of pressure and force to break them....

In all aircraft manufacturing the parts are stress tested well above the necessary attributes set out in safety standards...

His landing was a 'botched' landing... the MD-80 was more of a crash, which looks like one of those safety videos that they produce during testing of new aircraft...

The bounces do look a bit fast and faked but the vid looks real. I wonder is it a test flight like the MD-80 one, maybe they're testing the planes abilty.
