"Anything that has to do with homosexuality or pornography has no place at a seminary for priests,”

So homosexuality is as evil as child porn, then? Sparks will fly.

I agree that there is an immensely/disturbingly high incidence of paedophillia among Catholic priests but I disagree that marriage/sex wouldn't alleviate the problem greatly. Priests having the opportunity of a normal family life would, in my view, make the church a far more natural/normal environment and remove a lot of the temptation to resort to child abuse. Yes, some child abusers will always sucumb to the temptation but many others given the correct environment might never even consider it.

In my view a life of enforced abstinence from both sex and the normal intimacy of a relationship is not a suitable situation for most people.

It sickens me that anybody would interfere with children, especially priests. I'm not generally in favour of the death penalty, but when it comes to anyone harming a child I would be swayed in favour of it.

Regarding the incidence of paedophilia in the Catholic Church, there doesn't appear to be any evidence that the Catholic church has a higher instance than any other church. This is perhaps a redundant point but as the comment was made above about an "immensely/disturbingly high incidence of paedophilia among Catholic priests" it may be worthwhile to be informed.

I have a friend who is a straight shootin', mass goin' every Sunday sort of chap who sincerely believes that all the abuse scandals in the Catholic Church are the result of it being infiltrated by Communist agents over the last 50 years in order to subvert and undermine it from the inside?!?!?!

Homosexuality among priests is no surprise at all. Abolishing the rule on celibacy would really do nothing for the priesthood because 1) belief among intelligent people has collapsed which is why there are so few student priests and 2) the priesthood in most west european and us churches attracts homosexuals. Why? I dunno. Ask them.
The problem with gay orgies in seminaries is this: the RC Church utterly condemns gay sex and gay orientation so what are the very people who claim to stand against homosexuality doing engaging in it? Its a problem of hypocrisy; its a problem that is connected to the pedophilia problem in that there seems to be one law for clerics and another for lay people. If you are a gay priest fine; get your kit off with Fr. Big. If you are a gay man f*** off. If you are a priest pedophile, we'll move you on to fresh pastures, if you are a lay pedophile well that's different. If the Church practised what it rammed down people's throats for generations it would stop hemoragging respect and members.

Maybe because there's no chance of having a meaningful [ie. marriage] relationship with a woman, no great loss for a gay guy.

Remember Fr Michael Cleary? Married in all but name for years on the sly. He wasn't or isn't the only one.

Nope. Just further reaffirms my decision to reject the catholic church that was forced upon me as a kid.

Aye; i feel exactly the same way.

And also think of all the violence related to religion as well..

Out of interest is there actually a formal term for us non religious types?

I dont understand how anyone could have any respect for priests any more, yes i know that most of them are good but in the end they are still members of one of the moust soul less organisations since the Nazi party, no moral compass whatsoever
