I suspect its probably a double whammey of reduced consumer demand and higher input costs, both due to current inflationary pressures. This will have a disproportionately negative effect on smaller brewers.

When folks are tightening the belt, those expensive beers may be curtailed.

Seeing reduced production levels in home grown whiskey distillers from the smaller players also, but admittedly the drivers may still be different as these guys are more focused on export markets rather than domestic consumption.

Was at a party at the weekend and a guy I know, who I've only ever known to drink craft beer, was drinking a Heineken.

The reason he gave for buying it was because he was on a budget and watching what he spent.

Tesco are now stocking bottles of 8 Degrees.

For anyone not aware, the Aussie & Kiwi founders bought the brand back from Irish Distillers a couple of years back, so its a proper indi brew again.

I posted in another thread that they are selling off some of the cans for around €1.80-€2.20.

You can still get nice craft at a good price from Lidl or Aldi.

I’d never resort to Heineken myself. 🤣

The RDS Festival lineup has a "Bohem Lager" on the Irish brewery list. There's a website and an instagram for same but with no identifying info at all

    https://www.instagram.com/Bohemlager/

Anyone any ideas who's behind this? Was available at O'Haras stand at Taste of Dublin apparently so that may be an indication; but O'Haras are drowning in brands to use already.

From what I can see online there's a brewery in london called "Bohem" which specialise in Czech lager … But I dont think its linked to the Irish one.

Theres a single check in for the blood orange lager from Urban Brewing, so I would imagine it's an O Hara offshoot.

What little is available stinks of brand ambassadors and marketing people.

Website at bohemlager.com. I'd imagine the lads in London won't be too pleased by somebody else using their name.

Brewed at O'Hara's but I doubt they own the brand.

Jubel is selling very well in Britain, so I'd imagine they are trying to jump on the fruit lager bandwagon here, before Jubel make inroads.

My overriding thought from flicking through that Instagram account is: Is this a medical drink? Something about the branding just gives off medical product / "wellness" drink, which may well be the best compliment I can pay them, depending on their intention.

It looks very like the aforementioned Jubel.

But that split white/colour style has been used by plenty of places that consulted a marketing team first and brewer second.

Ah, now that you say it and I look up the Jubel branding, it's as close to a copycat as can been, complete with the "Cut with" phrase.

I wonder are ALDI going to stock it? They won't be sued this time.

I was asked about Forged stout at the weekend, does anyone know if it's still being made? I can't see it for sale anywhere. A lot of the recent Untappd check-ins are mainly in Eastern Europe. Noticeably, there's a good handful of check-ins from Russia too.

The last news report was that they had paid up and were allowed back in to the brewery, but that it hadn't been made for a prolonged period at that time.

It's still sold in his pub, but I think every other stockist in ROI dumped it within a few weeks. Harkins in D8 made some stupid commentary about still selling it which got huge backlash; then showed an O'Haras Stout tap going in on their social media shortly after that!

Is he selling year+ out of date kegs? Very possibly. The idiots that flock there won't be able to tell anyway.
