I suspect its probably a double whammey of reduced consumer demand and higher input costs, both due to current inflationary pressures. This will have a disproportionately negative effect on smaller brewers.

When folks are tightening the belt, those expensive beers may be curtailed.

Seeing reduced production levels in home grown whiskey distillers from the smaller players also, but admittedly the drivers may still be different as these guys are more focused on export markets rather than domestic consumption.

Was at a party at the weekend and a guy I know, who I've only ever known to drink craft beer, was drinking a Heineken.

The reason he gave for buying it was because he was on a budget and watching what he spent.

Tesco are now stocking bottles of 8 Degrees.

For anyone not aware, the Aussie & Kiwi founders bought the brand back from Irish Distillers a couple of years back, so its a proper indi brew again.

I posted in another thread that they are selling off some of the cans for around €1.80-€2.20.

You can still get nice craft at a good price from Lidl or Aldi.

I’d never resort to Heineken myself. 🤣
