I hope they are pushing the current consoles to the limit with this game like they done with V and the PS360 era.

re. The price I wouldn't even be surprised if it is €99 or more with clothes, gun skins and cars etc.. extra bonuses to pre-order the game.

I cannot see the base price being €90. Will probably be €75-€80.

Yeah I can't see there being that many editions at launch, or that they're committing to a Story Mode DLC, especially when they didn't have one for GTAV (whether it was canned or they just never bothered with it).

Plus that's also not the boxart for the game shown on any of the cases.

Also it says Inclmates instead of Includes in one of the descriptions 😊

I'm more fascinated by the idea of owners of the Ultimate Collectors Edition getting "Priority Customer Support"

"Your save file got corrupted and you lost all your progress? Let me just che…. Oh, I see you only bought the Premium version of the game. Yeah, just go to the Main Menu and click 'New Game' and start again. We only recover cloud save data for Ultimate Collector's Edition owners…"

that tweet above has now been 'Community Noted', so essentially its bull crap…

so pre-orders for June 25th, so what does that mean for actual release date?

..and on PC still probably about 10-12 months away?

Some of the artwork looks class..

I remember queueing up for the GTA V release here in the rain approaching midnight outside whichever game shop I pre-ordered from. Something was going wrong and the line was barely moving, a guy bought copies at the local 24 hour ASDA and sold them along the line. I was so impatient that I just bought one from him and left my copy to collect another day. Was a right mess, and I think my own impatience cost me an extra 20 quid!

Probably the last time we'll see those midnight lines, assuming way more people are download these days.

The last midnight thing I went to was buying my old Xbox One X at a local Smyths store.

There's something about queueing up in the rain with fellow losers that I like!

Yeah I think the only midnight release I was ever at was GTAV. Queuing in Xtravision, smell of popcorn because they were giving out things of popcorn with your game, 'Sirens' by Pearl Jam playing repeatedly on the sound system (other songs too but I distinctly remember hearing Sirens a lot because I love Pearl Jam). I was only about 10th in the queue but a huge line, especially since I think they technically closed at 11 and stopped normal business, then just let us all queue inside until 12. Got home near 1am and played for about 2 hours. Had booked the week off work anyway.

A few months later when it came to the release of the PS4 in Xtravision, I think I had to go in that morning for it as they didn't do a midnight launch. They'd done the Xbox One a few weeks before and that was when each Xtravision store was given orders from on high to not give out pre-orders unless people bought at least an additional peripheral or game regardless of what they'd pre-ordered (saying they had to prioritise people making additional purchases regardless of if you had your stuff pre-ordered or not), which caused a huge pushback (especially when they tried to claim they were told to by Microsoft even though that obviously wasn't the case). Really hastened their demise at that stage.

I clearly remember general midnight revellers walking past and asking us what we were queueing for - to be met with general laughter when we explained. I also remember how unproductive I was in work a few hours later having played it until it was time to go to clock in!

This reminds me of buying the last Harry Potter book when it launched at midnight in...2007 I'm gonna say. A friend of mine queued for ages to buy it from Waterstones in Belfast and I got out of work and picked him up. I drove to a 24 hour Tesco Extra on the way home and there were literally pallets of the things sitting there. I picked one up (cheaper) and off we went. He was fuming!

I never knew they done such a thing for books. Here is me thinking who the hell ques up at midnight for a book while them same people would be thinking who the hell ques up at midnight for a computer game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,147 ✭✭✭EagererBeaver

Ah the Harry Potter ones from about the third book on all generally had midnight launches. They were huge cultural events.

In fairness, GTA probably about the only game that could/can pull off the same thing. Probably less of a demand for it now with downloads, pre-installation etc. Think there might have been a few things like it for Tears of the Kingdom, although the market is obviously far smaller for Nintendo/Zelda

Aye I'd say a fair amount of players (myself included) will already have the game downloaded. They'll likely enable pre-download about a week before rather than the usual 2 or 3 days, which they do for big games to avoid servers getting swamped. That way it's ready to go once it unlocks.

It's funny how the 'supply v demand v time' thing can still be made into a cultural event. We had something similar recently to get tickets to a particular show in the West End, three of us, all in different parts of the country, all logged into the queue, one managed to get through and we were successful!

The promoters/publishers/whoever must love it. People like me queueing up to throw our money at them!

    Huh.

"Players who pre-order digital versions of Grand Theft Auto VI will be able to begin pre-loading on November 12 to ensure they are able to play at launch on November 19. The physical version of Grand Theft Auto VI, containing a download code inside the box, will be available starting November 12 to support pre-loading."

So firstly it seems like the physical version will just be a code in a box going by the above? And they're releasing it early so people can preload it in advance?

I think GTA San Andreas might have been the first ever Irish pre order situation? I remember xtra vision having it, was a new concept to me at the time.

Guessing its just a unique garage and salon locked behind ultimate. Regular salons and garages still available. Guessing every place has unique items.

As a PC player, there's something magical about the map you get with the physical copies of the GTA games that I miss.
