Does this mean the Treaty name is gone next year ? Will this turn off people from Clare & North Tipp that were supporting a mid west team rather than a Limerick team . On the flip side will it galvanise more support from the limerick sporting public . Things can only get better from where treaty is now anyways .

Well if they ever were supporting it was in very small numbers because attendances are tiny anyway. Treaty is also as Limerick a name as Limerick.

The make up of the new National League shows just how weak soccer is in the mid West outside the city. If they wanted a team to follow that was the chance.

Personally I preferred Treaty United and their original red and white. Sick of being Treaty 37 FC United whatever only to go back to Limerick and back to bankruptcy and another new name and round and round.

Don't know where the press release was published but someone has this up under Treaty's announcement.

    Treaty 2-2 Bray

    (Oyenuga, Byrne)

I was not at this or watching online, so all I know is that we were 2-0 up within 10 minutes, but it was level by the half-hour mark, and there were no more goals.

Next game: away to Cork, Friday June 19, 7.45pm.

Not being able to get a national league licence was probably a bit of a wake up call.

Did they even apply? That new third tier is going to be an absolute money pit. Being stuck in the first division is bad enough.

The whole Limerick set up seemed iffy that a junior club was doing the day to day running.

Ya they got rejected which means they must have been fairly weak looking at some of the teams involved.

    Cork 4-0 Treaty

We were actually the better team in the first half, and we could have been a goal or more up at half time. A combination of poor finishing, and especially, poor decisions in the final third, meant we wasted chance after chance.

The difference was starkly illustrated in the second half. In a spell of a about 15 minutes, Cork were clinical and scored three goals, adding another very late on to complete the rout.

A Kerry win away to UCD means that Finn Harps are now the closest team to us.

Next game: away to Wexford, Friday June 26, 7.45pm.

    Sack the manager ??

Or are the players simply not good enough?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,059 ✭✭✭✭osarusan

    The latter, in my opinion.

Tommy Barrett has been around forever and knows the league inside out - I don't see why he'd suddenly stop being able to get performances out of players.

We lost a few players in the off-season and didn't replace them with the same quality ( as has happened each of the past 3-4 off-seasons) and that's why we are where we are in my opinion.

Now, perhaps Tommy is failing in that regard - not recruiting well enough. But I don't think the club has very much money at all to attract players.

It's probably time Barrett goes too though. It's a bit odd to have such a long standing manager who doesn't actually win very much. Surely it's time to try something different.

Who would replace him (for whatever money he is on, which I doubt is much) that is better able to recruit and retain players and get performances out of them?

The main issue with the club, to me at least, is about recruiting and holding on to players.

In the off season, we lost (among a good few others) Evan O'Connor, Karl O'Sullivan, Corey Chambers, Patrick Ferry, and Lee Lynch. Now, did they leave because of Barrett, or for other reasons? Lynch is (or was) involved with Limerick FC, and Karl O'Sullivan is now in Australia. O'Connor and Ferry are with Athlone. Chambers is with Cobh.

I think in many cases, Limerick is just too far away (for the money on offer), and players sign for clubs closer to home.

Ah we have been hearing who will replace him for years. We are bottom a table with clubs like Kerry who surely have it far harder than us to recruit. At some point failure deserves the sack regardless of what a great guy we all think he is.

Off the pitch the club seem to be very active, some regular announcements on LinkedIn about new appointments to the club and sponsorship etc. But the mens first team seem to be going nowhere. A clubs senior first team should be a priority give income streams etc but we seem to be getting worse.
