The writers are really tying themselves up in knots trying to make Nikki the victim when she is a welfare scrounger.

Those same writers allowed Melanie to keep working in the solicitors office after cheating on her exams. Really hope Nikki gets her comeuppance.

Fair City script writers missed a trick, they should have had Nickii a Nigerian lady and everyone feeling sorry for her. That would really stir the pot and gain a lot of online traction.

A bit like 2 or 3 years ago when Fergal was portrayed as racist and homophopic and people were using his image as their online profile. I can see how FC would stay away from that controversial topic of race and social welfare abuse.

Interesting though how Fergal was portrayed as the bad boy 'Far Right' out of sync with societal norms. And Nikki is deserving of sympathy. Is there some sort of muddled message being sent.. Or just, more than likely, poor writing.

"I stole tens of thousands of Euros from the state so that my kids could have a future" is a terrible defence. I'm puzzled by where the scriptwriters are going with this - they surely can't be trying to gain sympathy from the audience for an ex-convict who is still a scrounger and scam artist.

That might be his downfall with Niki if he did.

They could let Niki off and he'd end up in trouble.

Regarding what Nikki has done with the money, she says she spent it on the kids but that's not strictly true. When she was scamming bed and board off Sash, she was constantly coming in with shopping bags saying she got "good deals" or whatever. She also had a really expensive phone where there was a daft storyline that Maxine lost her brand new one and Nikki happened to get a new one that was the exact same model at the same time that Maxine lost hers. The assumption was Nikki stole it but it turned out Nikki had actually bought it. She does seem to be spending the majority on the kids though with all the camps and activities she has then enrolled in and she's always scamming lifts off other people to bring them to training. She also scams makeovers and fashion styling from the salon and Kira. I really can't see how she'd have burned through €70K given how tight she is with money. Surely she'd still have at least half that in the bank.

On a side note Dean has exactly €70,000 in savings too as revealed a couple of weeks ago when Ray snooped through his post. I wonder if Nikki will somehow steal/con it out of him. Seems odd that a couple of weeks after it was revealed Dean had seventy grand, that was suddenly the amount Nikki needed.

If Dean's savings are unrelated then Nikki should just take up van life and follow Dean's lifestyle for 2 years as that would get her the money.

I don't ever remember Carol's dead sister being a significant plot point before. Granted I wasn't watching as regularly back when Trigger was in it so maybe the topic was covered in detail.

To be fair to FC, they don't often beat about the bush with these plots. If this was EE or CS it'd take 6 months for it to be revealed that a new character was someone's secret sibling/child/parent. In FC the character just arrives, shouts it out then walks away for a bit to let the other character process it.

Not sure we need Carol's sister in it though. If they want to bolster up her family she already has mother in law Nora and grandson Lorcan around and they could easily recast her son Jack now and bring back daughter in law Ali too. If they wanted a sister like figure for Carol just bring back Tracy or invest in her friendship with Sharon.

Gwen only knows about it because James told her last week or the week before. Mr Goode came into the pub and James said to Gwen that it was same the guy who had worked in the planning office and he had bribed him for planning permission. I think this was the planning that got revoked which Con hid from Hayley and James when he sold them the site for €1,000,000.
