Maybe they should sell tickets to all areas with free upgrades if they don't sell out the lower stand.

I know previously i have gotten "full" refund from TM (less fees) for Euro knockout games when this happened but it was more than 2 weeks or something until the event. So I returned the tickets i didnt want and just got the new ones

Enabling that functionality this week would soften the blow a lot. As someone who prefers the upper deck, I would totally get a refund for my lower deck ticket and take the loss on some fees to get the Upper Deck ticket (and it would still be cheaper)

Looks like it's going to be a greasy ball on Friday according to met.ie which of course means knock-ons aplenty. Worrying times for our scrum.

Team is out, mostly as expected, Furlong gets the nod at TH.....if we can avoid getting scrummed to death thats a team that should win.

I thought they might have used Frawley in a 6:2 split on the bench given the opposition and the weather forecast.

Sam is a big call too. He'll definitely be targeted by their openside and Andy Farrell will be watching closely.

Still, it's a strong team so fingers crossed we get the result.

Good to see Doris and Sheehan make it. Would have started Kelleher for this anyway due to being a stronger scrummager. Can't understand Furlong starting, or even being in the 23. Clarkson with Slim to come on give better scrummaging options.

Happy with the make up of the backrow and backline so no complaints from me. A bit of power to come on for once with Sheehan, Clarkson and Conan. Happy that Lowe and McGrath will get a home send off, hopefully the result goes our way and they lift the cup at the end.

Disappointed that JOB misses out again, think he ought to be starting and offers more from the bench than Ringrose. Can't understand Frawley being jettisoned either, he should be starting at 12. Himself and Prendergast compliment each other really well.

Who are you starting JOB ahead of?

Don't think we realised it at the time at but Bordeaux was Ciaran Frawley's last game for us.

This will be Luke, Rieko & Lowe's last game.

The Stormers semi was Rabah's last game (his turnover penalty was a huge moment there).

John McKee's last game for us was a good start in Round 17 v the Lions. Same game was Will Connors' last game too.

I'd have him ahead of TOB personally, based off form recently, and certainly take him over Ringrose on the bench.

    Form?

Tommy has scored 10 tries this season for Leinster in c. 200 less minutes than Jimmy (plus another 4 tries for Ireland) to Jimmy's 7. He has scored 6 tries in his last 6 games for Leinster (and 3 tries in his last two appearances for Ireland immediately before that).

Jimmy's form has been good in recent weeks too - 5 tries in his last 6 games for Leinster, but don't really see the argument his form is better. He's played a softer fixture list too than Tommy arguably.

Leo has stuck with the incumbent backs, which im delighted about.

I actually think Leo is doing a Rassie by selecting the stronger front row as "finishers"

Again, my opinion, as worthless as it is. I view Jimmy as a more creative player, with a better kicking game and better in the air. They're both solid in defense, where I'd say Jimmy has better positional sense, from playing FB.

Tommy is faster, and a very good finisher. He strikes me as a nuts and bolts player, rather than one who can bring a spark of off the cuff play.

Leinster the betting odds favourites but this a game anyone would struggle to make a strong argument for the eventual winner. Which suggests it should be a humdinger.

I'm in a bit of a quandary on this match. If it were Connacht instead of Leinster then the choice would be simple as Connacht don't matter much in the context of Irish rugby. But Leinster is the bleeding heart of Irish rugby and has been for decades.

If Leinster wins then after the Begles result it offers a justification (maybe enough justification) to the Ireland strategy moving forward. If Leinster lose everything is open to question.

And I believe there are so many frailties in the Irish system that need to be addressed. We can't just keep going down the same pathway forever. We need a programme that encourages development both for players and management. Central contracts are the bane of Irish rugby. You disallow players to move abroad and learn new things. Instead you are just fixated on your own rugby

Porter missing the summer series with his injury.

To be honest I'm nearly glad for him. The summer off will do him good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,456 ✭✭✭FtD v2

I was really hoping you were going to come on here and say you thought Leinster would lose comfortably again.

FWIW - I highly, highly doubt Leinster losing this game (depending on the manner of the defeat) to a team absolutely stacked with Springboks is going to lead to "everything about the Ireland strategy being open to question", particularly in the context of Leinster missing Porter, Snyman, Baird, P McCarthy etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,456 ✭✭✭FtD v2

Agreed. It will also hopefully mean he is in position to tour SA in rounds 1 & 2 of the URC next season (hopefully alongside Paddy McCarthy), as the likelihood is we've got Smyth & Sparrow on the tight head side of the scrum for those games.

Is Baird expected to be out until next season?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,456 ✭✭✭FtD v2

He had surgery again a few weeks back; he isn't playing this week for Leinster and isn't going on the summer tour so he's basically out till next season.

Is anyone going to the "flanzone" on Friday?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,345 ✭✭✭✭Heroditas

I just wouldn't have bothered replying at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,191 ✭✭✭typhoony

Decades, not really true, Leinster really only got their act together in 2008/2009.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 754 ✭✭✭chancer12

The match isn't even on TG4, Premier Sports again. V annoying

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 4,085 ✭✭✭50HX

Hopefully this will be a better game than last years final...in theory it should be.

Sam P had a very good final last year, if it goes well 2mor for him he's nailed on to start all 3 ire games.

Whats the logic in not having Frawley on the bench??

Tough on JOB missing out given his recent form

Whats the logic in not having Frawley on the bench??

Same as the last few games; he’s our third best ten and his versatility isn’t needed with all the other players we have who can play multiple positions

No. Simple bitterness and 'making a decision and making it right'

This decision will bite back so badly when he's the second or maybe even first outhalf in green and the 'high ceiling' kid is back behind Harry and Joey at home.
