Good fun, in a Flash Gordon kind of way (right down to Brian May in the soundtrack). Thoroughly enjoyed it and was certainly a better experience than the Madalorian, one of the other mooted summer blockbusters.

Not on track to be a box-office success but I read an article somewhere saying that with Amazon very strongly behind it, cinema box-office might not be the defining metric for success - they may push it very hard on streaming and look to go ahead with a sequel, "franchise", expanded toy line, etc., regardless.

no chance there will be a sequel it’s been a huge financial loss. Streaming won’t help as it won’t drive subscribers.

Saw this at the weekend with my wife and 2 young boys. They all enjoyed it. And there was a bit to enjoy in fairness, but personally I couldn't look past how much like Thor Ragnarok and GotG it was. I grew up playing with He-Man toys and was very excited for this based on the trailers. Everyone though was just trying too hard to be funny and most of the jokes were cringe. The heroes of Eternia were just a rag-tag bunch of cookie-cutter nobodies.

The He-Man/Adam actor was good. Idris Elba was reliably very good and held it all together (even if it felt like another version of his Suicide Squad character) and Jared Leto/Skeletor was great, made me laugh a lot. You wouldn't even know it was him, but the voice was great.

Overall, too much CGI, too much slow-motion, too much forced humour. A James Gunn tribute act.

    2/5

It kind of attempts to explain itself at least… it's like that great Dungeons and Dragons movie a few years ago that flopped at the box office, but did incredibly well on streaming afterwards, and if there were ever a sequel, it'd likely hold up a lot better.

Now while MotU was fun, it wasn't near as good as Dungeons and Dragons was, so i'm not sure the same idea holds up, unless they intend to launch a TV element on Amazon as well or something (whether live action, or yet another cartoon reboot).
