Huge loss, probably worth 4 or 5 points a game to us. That tips the scales to Derry for me.

Yeah you'd have to think that that's probably that if that rumour is true. He's probably been our player of the season so far. Who'd be most likely to step in? Hard to keep track of who's injured and who isn't.

Wouldn't mind seeing Murphy giving a shot. Put him in full forward line and bring morris out. Few players with niggles and a few out of form that could come in. Conor duke seems to have dropped off completely this year, taught he was a great threat last year for 2 pointers. Heard gray dropped of the panel aswell.

this is a game there to be win all the same. Although not sure playing Westmeath or Louth possibly away again Woukd be something I’d look forward to. I’d rather loser of mayo Tyrone if we did win. Not sure the interest is really there around the county once the Leinster championship was gone. It’s hard for most ordinary fans to buy into this format. Teams that aren’t going to win an all Ireland don’t seem to be able to generate much hype ourselves, dublin Kildare and cavan good example

group system of last year probably a better idea, Meath shoukd have had at least one Croke park home match this year in championship

yea theres definitely been a huge drop off in interest since losing leinster, and then Cork… Last year we had 10-12 of us going to every game, where as Cork game only a handful and less again for saturday. Though in fairness, the time and distance for saturday game has put alot of people off going, such a pity they chose 7pm for it….

anyone else heading up tomorrow? and what time if so?! Dont think Ive even been to Celtic park, hate not knowing the 'ins' 😂 were leaving about 1.45 I think…. saw the team is out too, whether they all start or not. but another shake up anyway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 149 ✭✭Jamemid

Yeah heading up,not sure what time to leave either! Never been up there before.

Can't see that being the team that starts tomorrow, only 4 forwards named. Think jack o connor will start and Flynn.

Yes, heading up also. Staying the night. Never been in Derry so I thought this would be a good opportunity and also with the fixture time I reckoned that support wouldnt be great.

I was quite optimistic until Kinsella's injury but still quite hopeful of the win.

Draw at half time. Hopefully they can push on this second half

What a win! Some match from Keogey and Conlon.

Is the next round first team out home advantage?

    We can play:

    Donegal,

    Louth/Armagh,

    Mayo/Tyrone

    Galway/Westmeath.

No, when the 2 teams are drawn, they're both put into another bowl to determine the home venue.

What'll we do when keoghan retires, didn't put a foot wrong. Conlan impeccable. Super composure in the last few minutes was a nice touch too. Great to get another shot at it next week.

I thought Hurson had a poor game. Tis not sour grapes as we won, but I would question at least a dozen of his calls, which involved both teams.

Ended up in the Dubliner as we were having dinner across the road, cheers!

Ground it out in the end, though we made hard work of it. Such a huge win though, regardless of how it came about. Could sense the tension from both sides given how the championship has gone. Keogan was excellent as was Conlon. Left a huge amount of scores behind us I thought. Frayne got the ball late in the first half straight in front of the posts but somehow decided to take an extra touch, got caught in possession and Derry went down and scored.

Agreed on Hurson. He made some very strange calls. The free in midfield right at the end of the first half was never a free. Then Derry's last two pointer to bring it within a score was soft as anything.

Expecting an away trip again, probably to Ballybofey. But that win was a massive one given how the championship has gone so far. While we did achieve promotion and a division 2 title, had we gone out at the first hurdle with three straight defeats, it definitely would have been a step backwards. Defence still leaves a huge amount to be desired. Derry's goal just epitomised our defence this season.

At least we closed out this one.

Great win, An Mhi Abu 😀

Defence was probably the best the whole season. Some dodgy moments ya, thought Raferty played well and certainly overall did not give up the same amount of points as the last few games.

Pitch seem very slippy particularity in the Derry half just around the 40 mtr arc.

Not only would Donegal be a bad draw it would mean fans would have to go Cork, Derry and Donegal to support the team.

None of the remaining teams would be too bad if we got them away. At home and we're back in Croker.

On another note cork have proven themselves now so losing to them is in a bit of a more positive light now.

Great win, especially with kinsella out and under abit of pressure. Lads really stood up, conlon and Keoghan were unreal, taught McBride and Caulfield had great games too,Rafferty looked alot better aswell.Smyth very good when he came on and maybe deserves a start next day.

Still be worried about how open we are at the back and some of the decision making, gave away alot of silly turnovers aswell.

Don't really mind who we play next game as long as it's not Donegal away.

Hope you're right, this Donegal fella has a different combo. I prefer your options!

Yeah Donegal have different potential opponents because they were in the winners bracket for round 2.

If Dublin beat Cavan I hope they draw Donegal instead of us.

Hopefully we can avoid Donegal Armagh. Home match in Croker would be vital too.

So we know it's one of Donegal, Westmeath, Armagh or Monaghan. Just hoping to get a match in Croker. Obviously Westmeath and Mayo would be preferable to the other two but Westmeath in Cusack Park would be a cauldron.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,202 ✭✭✭RoyalCelt

I think you mean Mayo instead of Monaghan?

I think everyone would want either Westmeath or Mayo but at the end of the day those games are a complete coin toss. It's the least predictable championship in recent memory.

Indeed! And Mayo it is! Away, again! Hopefully the Derry win does something to ease the nerves of the players. Again, it's a winnable game, but definitely a tougher one than Derry. Needs a better performance and fewer turnovers in attack if we're going to make it to Croke Park.
