a really interesting point, I hadn’t really considered before.
…and I am not blaming the people of the global south for this, but if they can get one family member settled in a western country then that person can be a massive source of income for the entire extended family. So if our systems allow people to keep coming, then they will keep coming. I think I read that there are 500,000,000 people in the global south who could potential get asylum in the western countries. There needs to be some form of control on who arrives but I don’t hear the debate being had by the looney left

My point was that in order to have that information to hand Ryanair would have to save the data copied on all flights , which is against GDPR .

That's why I was asking Ozymandias with the example of Boards saving our info and then sharing it with the authorities.

Not everyone whose information is saved is criminal and therefore sharing that data en masse would be illegal .

You are all over the place with your 'facts' and keep flip flopping. You said twice that 15.5m are in an area smaller than Cork. You were learning as you went. Jordan for example have over 2.4 million Palestinian refugees. Jordan is economically fragile and all these refugee camps are placing a huge strain on their services and infrastructure. They have taken their fair share.

You must feel foolish cheerleading the IDF when you didn't stop to think about cause and effect. Nobody said 2 million will come to Ireland and breed like rabbits (except you). I said 2 million could potentially arrive on EU shores in years to come and would need to be shared out amongst all 27 EU countries in accordance with the EU Migration Pact. Do you think we should simply deport them immediately? Do you think Israel will accept them back into Gaza which it plans to annex? The penny is finally dropping for you.

Do I want mass migration? No. Do I expect mass migration as a result of war, climate change etc? Yes. The EU Migration Pact is the EU's attempt at streamlining and improving the asylum process. Everyone that arrived will still have to be processed.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

What do you mean either / or approach ?

Many here are advocating for solutions and middle ground .

Talking about using people as 'convict labour ' is not middle ground or progressing the discussion .

I would favour deportation rather than that . And certainly if you are talking about convicted criminals .

Do you know that the vast majority of those being granted amnesty are in fact migrants from South America and Hispanic people? They are accepting their own ex colonists back .

You are totally wrong. I said  they cannot, all 15,5 million of them now, live in a place smaller that Cork.

That does not mean all 15.5 million are living there now. Of course not. As explained to you before, some are living in Jordan etc.

I never used the phrase "breed like rabbits". You did.

As I said, the decision for us in the west is do we allow people from overcrowded countries in to Ireland?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 14,945 ✭✭✭✭Cluedo Monopoly

It's not about allowing. If migrants arrive here legally or illegally, they have to be processed according to the law and the EU Migration Pact. You cannot stop people arriving into the EU. Southern Europe is a sieve. You cannot build walls to stop them. You will never stop migration. They will arrive and must follow due process.

You keep avoiding the point of of Israel and Gaza. If Gazans arrive in the EU and you want to deport them for whatever reason, will Israel allow them back? Delusional. Your cheerleading of Israel is looking particularly foolish now.

You didn't used the phrase "breed like rabbits" but you absolutely alluded to it many many times. Their birth rate disgusts you. Was it 50 million you warned about?

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

I never mentioned Israel in this thread. Nothing to do with it. Stop diverting.

I said " the decision for us in the west is do we allow people from overcrowded countries in to Ireland?"

The Sudanese man who stabbed someone in Belfast came though Dublin airport I believe.

I replied to your "allow" nonsense above. You are not responding to my points because you are a bad faith poster. Go peddle your fears and phobias to someone else.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

I said if you look at things positively, we could have a great soccer team in a few generations if we had 40 million to choose from.

I said "the decision for us in the west is do we allow people from overcrowded countries in to Ireland?" There can be negative consequences of migration as well as positive ones.

I never mentioned "Israel" or "breeding like rabbits". You did.

You spoke about Gazans , Palestine and referred to how many would be in the country in x number of years if they were accepted here , inferring a high 'breeding rate. '

This is disgusting rhetoric reminiscent of some very bigoted comments by some very famous bigoted people .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 14,945 ✭✭✭✭Cluedo Monopoly

He is trying very hard to hide what he really thinks. Pointless responding to him because he ignores most of the points in order to hide his true feelings. I think the Palestinian birth rate disgusts him. He used to post in the Israel/Gaza thread but lost every argument and disappeared.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

I said there were over 10 times the amount of Palestinians now compared to in 1947. That is not a bigoted comment, it is a fact. And it is also a fact that Palestine is a fair bit smaller than Co. Cork. Could you fit 15.5 million people in Cork?

We have to decide if we want mass migration in Ireland or not.

Edit: The Black population also grew exponentially during slavery in the American South, but it didn't mean they were treated okay.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,575 ✭✭✭Francis McM

Not the point. Never said they were. Without immigration, not sure if they would have increased more than ten fold in less than 80 years anyway.

Great to see the large peaceful anti-racism protest in Belfast today. Hopefully the racist thugs will stop ruining Belfast's reputation now.

Have you seriously never heard of the Transatlantic Slave Trade? Seriously? It wasn't immigration.

The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God.

"little girls are being sold off by families to be used as breeding stock to make more Hamas fighters"

Shocking if true. Would you happen to have a link for that claim?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 18,637 ✭✭✭✭Goldengirl

Can another thread not be taken over by IDF propaganda ?

Unable to quote for some reason but if in doubt see the post above ^°

Credit for trying the most ways to get around it but we all know what you said .

It was the bit after that , inferring a "breeding rate ," a dog whistling term that I am sure everybody understands .

This time the rioters a few nights ago were loyalists rioting because a catholic man got stabbed and lost an eye.

Tell us all how you clearly know nothing about Northern Ireland in as few words as possible! 🙄

That link is shocking. I particularly admired the cognitive dissonance of families agreeing to marrying off young teen girls in part to reduce the threat of sexual violence, as if the men marrying these teens are going to show them great respect. To be clear the article itself does make clear that the girls who are placed in this situation can face intimate partner violence and unwanted (at that young age) pregnancies and loss of freedom.

Iraq and Afghanistan both in recent years reduced the lower age for marrying to young teens. In Iraq, it is according to clerical interpretation, which can mean marriage as young as nine.

There is a marked difference in attitudes to women and girls from strict forms of Islam followed in the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia to that in the west. Extreme patriarchal views regarding the rights of women to autonomy, freedom of expression and movement, to sexual consent and in Afghanistan even removing the legal right to speech. Obviously not everyone in these countries believe this, and many migrate to Western countires to escape such practices. But many do regard women as second class citizens and are against western freedoms that women enjoy, yet still choose to migrate to western countries.

I stand for women's rights, so I am increasingly uncomfortable seeing women in Ireland in full face veil with only eyes (and sometimes not even that if the mesh thing is used )visible. I don't see it very often but I see it enough for it to disturb me. I think if people want to migrate to western countries they should adopt to western norms with regards to women's rights and gay rights and if they can't they should move to somewhere with views like theirs.

“Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.”

Thanks for the link. I couldn’t find anything about girls being sold which is what was claimed but sad stuff indeed nonetheless.

The topic of the thread is the Belfast Riots. Derailing off to topics belonging to other threads will result in that post getting deleted.

I think post was taken down by said poster or moderator but was a post in here calling the victim of this beheading attempt called a "scumbag" among a host of other shall we say not so nice things.

It now turns out this victim was once brutally beaten and tortured by loyalists in past.

This poster said he had "empathy".

He must be a huge loyalist himself and a huge Oliver Cromwell fan with that type of hatred.

    Empathy indeed.........

Once again, this notion of something can't be true just because something else is.

Stephen Ogilvie was the victim of a horrific attack by an immigrant.

However, Stephen Ogilvie has, as of 2020, 161 criminal convictions.

Both are true, are they not?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 36,033 ✭✭✭✭The_Kew_Tour

Man has schizophrenia and has physical disadvantages.

The man trying behead him didnt know any of this. The victim was trying help him even.

    Lack of empathy from some

Thankfully the vast majority see it for what it was.

Absolutely true, however I don't think it's up to you or me to decide what opinions people should hold of someone who has 161 criminal convictions.

It's true they can be appalled by the attack and the fact that someone can rack up that many criminal convictions.

As promised, plenty of posts have now been deleted for veering well off topic. There’s a whole thread for Immigration discussion, use that. Otherwise this thread is for the Belfast Riots. If it keeps derailing into general Immigration topics the thread will be closed.
