The US Senate is considering a measure that would force the president to expand intelligence sharing with Israel and make it harder for any administration to restrict Israeli access to American secrets, even amid growing concern in Washington over Israeli espionage against US officials.

Section 622 of the Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2027, titled “United States-Israel Intelligence Sharing Enhancement”, would require the president, through the director of national intelligence and, when necessary, the secretary of defence, to “expand and enhance intelligence sharing with the Government of Israel”.

^^^ Wildgreen, I think this is CORE:

“Most Western states are still supporting Israeli crimes, [...]

[...] “Most Jewish communities are still spreading Israeli Hasbara lies, silencing action for Palestine, and presenting themselves, as well as Israel, as the eternal victim, rather than admitting to the crimes of Zionism, aided and abetted by such communities. Such communities are still resistant to argument, evidence, and international law, not to mention morality.

Starry: ^^^ We have observed this in the MICROCOSM, despite B’TSELEM CONCLUDING, UNEQUIVOCALLY, that... ... ⬇️

“An examination of Israel's policy in the Gaza Strip and its horrific outcomes, together with statements by senior Israeli politicians and military commanders about the goals of the attack, leads to the unequivocal conclusion that ISRAEL IS TAKING COORDINATED ACTION TO INTENTIONALLY DESTROY PALESTINIAN SOCIETY IN THE GAZA STRIP. In other words:

Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip." ⬇️

^ SOURCE: B’TSELEM, AN ISRAELI HRO, BASED IN JERUSALEM

    Additionally,

“The element of INTENT, a key component in the definition of genocide, emerges unequivocally in light of several factors: the Israeli leadership's awareness of the foreseeable consequences of its open-fire and starvation policies; the systematic destruction of civilian infrastructure that enables life; the decision to continue, and even escalate, the assault despite countless warnings and evidence regarding its impact on the civilian population in the Gaza Strip; and numerous statements by policymakers explicitly indicating that Israel is targeting the entire population of the Strip.

[INTENT:] “A thorough legal examination of this issue appears in AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL’S December 2024 report titled "You Feel Like You Are Subhuman: Israel's Genocide Against Palestinians in Gaza"; in the work of Physicians for Human Rights,[...]” < https://www.amnesty.org/en/documents/mde15/8668/2024/en/ >

Starry: ^ Amnesty International follows up on B’Tselem’s July 2025 report “Our Genocide” AND Physicians for Human Rights Israel report ~

“Israel/OPT: Israeli organizations conclude Israel committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza in another milestone for accountability efforts”
    Amnesty International / 28 JULY 2025

    https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/news/2025/07/israel-opt-israeli-organizations-conclude-israel-committing-genocide-against-palestinians-in-gaza-in-another-milestone-for-accountability-efforts/

Following the landmark publication of two reports by leading Israeli human rights organizations B’Tselem and Physicians for Human Rights Israel, which concluded that Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians in the occupied Gaza Strip, Amnesty International’s Secretary General, Agnès Callamard, said:

“With the publication of these two reports, B’Tselem and Physicians for Human Rights Israel become the first two Israeli organizations to state it loud and clear, based on meticulous documentation and research: Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. This is another milestone in the human rights community’s efforts to hold Israeli authorities accountable for their crimes against Palestinians.  […]

Physicians for Human Rights Israel’s report comprehensively documents Israel’s deliberate and systematic destruction of the healthcare system in Gaza. Taking the violations against the healthcare system and healthcare workers in their totality, its harrowing examination clearly lays out how the damage and destruction of the healthcare system in Gaza is not merely a byproduct of war, but rather part of a deliberate and calculated policy to destroy Palestinian lives in Gaza in what amounts to genocide.” ⬅️

Why do these people scare UK judiciary and politicians when they look just like easy-going ordinary people with no brown envelopes.

Authoritarian move. They should appeal if the law allows. There are clear grounds for one. This is a defiance of the jury.

Starmer and Cooper are so desperate to please Israel. A recent Pew Global poll found 65% in the UK disapprove of Israel.

Separately, a US group that investigated it found that there Israeli WB settlement produce is getting into the EU in violation of international law.

It's going to be fascinating to see what the future holds for Israel. Due to censorship we don't know the extent of the damage it has sustained in it's wars against Iran. Given how Jews are more likely safe in NYC than Tel Aviv you have to wonder about it's continued existence as a country. A huge part of it's founding was to give Jews a statehood and a safe place to live. That sense of security has been shattered. For decades Israel has been able to punch it's neighbours without military consequences. Iran has broken that run. The tide of public opinion supporting Israel in the U.S. is turning against them. It is a pariah state so who does business with them? Erdogan for sure and Modi. The U.S. for now.

On a separate note the ICJ has ruled that genocide is being committed in Gaza. Yet we have Mark Humphrys and Alan Shatter, both avowed Zionists, blank outright denying their is a genocide being committed. Imagine if you said to them the holocaust never happened? It's like their commitment to Israel is cult like. Scary. Humphrys is an academic and Shatter a lawyer so both would be expected to have pretty good intellect.

Ultimately I think with their reaction to October 7th Israel has sown the seeds of its demise. How long that takes time will tell.

Many analysts feel Netanyahu and Israel lost the plot after October 7th. A two year genocide was always going to turn global public opinion against them - the Zionist elements in the media in the West could only protect them for so long.

The Israeli public themselves seem to have gone mad essentially. In total denial about the genocide and war crimes being carried out by their military and their callous disregard and indifference to the suffering of Palestinian people is very hard to fathom. Could there be a more racist and extremist society anywhere?

The ICJ has not yet ruled on the case of Israel committing Genocide. The ruling is expect at the end of 2027 at the earliest, more likely 2028.

A UN Commission found that Israel has committed Genocide in Gaza.

Two senior Israelis, Yoav Gallant an Netanyahu have warrants for their arrest for War Crimes issued by the ICC. Both men are currently listed by the ICC as "at large".

There appears to be five more sealed ICC arrest warrants for Senior Israelis. Two are believed for Ben-Gvir and Smotrich and are believed to be for War Crimes. It is not if or when the warrants will unsealed.

For sure, worldwide opinion on Israel is at an all time low and in this month alone, significant moves have been made to sanction Israel and in particular, more sanctions are being demanded from the EU.

This is probably a lot to do with Orban (Hungary) being voted out on his ear. He was a staunch supporter of Israel and blocked many previous EU moves to sanction them.

Erdogan despises Netanyahu with a public bile rarely seen on the international stage.

Throughout the current Genocide, each time we were sickened to our stomachs by Israeli atrocities (I won't this them out - regulars readers know what they are), Israel went a whole other depraved level lower, and lower and lower.

Just like the Settler thugs have recently been learning how to conduct their business just like the IDF, seems they are learning really really quickly.

Reminds me of the Down's Syndrome boy in Gaza - IDF set their dog on him and he died some hours later. Alone.

    Haaretz straplines:
Israeli settlers shot and wounded a Palestinian man with special needs near the West Bank village of Duma, the Palestine News Agency reported.

An Israeli defense source told Haaretz that the man was shot by two people from a nearby settlement after he approached it and failed to heed their warning shots.

According to the Israel Police, the Palestinian man had arrived at the settlement holding a stone and was "behaving suspiciously."

Suleiman Dawabsha, head of the Duma village council, confirmed to Haaretz that the incident began when the man entered the settlement, adding that he was mentally disabled. Israeli soldiers and police officers, who were present when the settlers shot the man, tied his hands and feet and detained him for over an hour, while medical teams were prevented from evacuating him.

Later on Saturday, Palestinian reports said masked settlers vandalized property in the village of Jit, while others attacked employees of the Jerusalem District Electricity Company near Bethlehem.

UNWRA fires 70 staff to ensure Israel doesn't kill passersby or other agency staff.

Seems Hamas are very much operational and committing their normal atrocities.

    Haaretz:

In Gaza, UNRWA said it fired 70 employees who are suspected by Israel of collaborating with Hamas, stressing that the move was not an endorsement of Israeli suspicion or "part of a disciplinary process." The firing, according to the statement, was done in order to prevent agency staff and passersby from becoming collateral damage in case Israel targets the suspected employees.

In early 2024, Israel provided the UN with a list of about 120 UNRWA employees in the Strip that were allegedly directly tied to Hamas. The agency said that evidence against nine of these 120 employees was solid, and that they were either fired or killed in fighting in Gaza.

On Thursday, the UN said it has found evidence that Hamas has killed 108 Palestinians in Gaza and wounded 384 others between August 2024 and January 2026, accusing the organization of murder, torture and acts of violence against Gazans for a variety of reasons, including dissent, collaboration with Israel or various crimes.

Alleged War criminal #1 (at large) not going to go to the G7 summit in France to meet with the US and ME Leaders.

Probably because the flight time from Évian-les-Bains to The Hague is only about 90 minutes.

    Haaretz:

Not long after, a senior U.S. administration official told Reuters that the Trump administration believes it has reached a "strong" deal with Iran. The official added that U.S. President Trump plans to meet with Middle Eastern leaders on the sidelines of the G7 summit in France later this week, noting that PM Netanyahu is not expected to participate in these meetings.

“Israel: What Went Wrong?": Holocaust Scholar Omer Bartov & Haaretz's Gideon Levy Debate Zionism

Starry: Let’s have an academic argument about it all. NOT. It’s BS. We don’t need the authority of any academic to tell us it’s genocide.

Israeli American historian Omer Bartov should have known by mid November 2023, it was genocide. DemocracyNow! Amy Goodman said he published an essay stating: “it's very likely that war crimes and crimes against humanity are happening in Gaza”, BUT Bartov concluded: “There is no proof that genocide is taking place”. [“What I Believe as a Historian of Genocide”, 10 November 2023].

^ I find Bartov’s watered-down and safe comments - shielding the National Zionist government - morally repulsive while Palestinians are dying... Around mid October 2023, at short notice, IDF were ordering hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to go South on safe routes. They then hit a convoy of vehicles with fleeing civilians on the road. ⬇️

    Warning: Highly Distressing Content:
    https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2023/10/14/gaza-evacuation-israel-hamas-war/

The threshold of a textbook genocide had been reached weeks earlier than 10 November. Around mid-October 2023, 880 international scholars... signed a public statement warning of a genocide.

    https://twailr.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Gaza-public-statement-and-signatories.pdf

Unicef reported there were more than 5,350 children killed in the Gaza Strip between 7 October - 31 December 2023. Other sources have said over 8,000 children were slaughtered.

It was the time of the deliberate blockade - lack of fuel, water… Surgeons performing amputations on kids without anaesthetic…

The light on the road to Damascus for Prof Bartov apparently came in June 2024, when he resigned from the editorial board of Yad Vashem Studies. He might now be on the road to redemption, perhaps, drafting his 2026 published book. I’m happy to hear that.

'Israeli American historian Omer Bartov is the Dean’s Professor of Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Brown University; and has been described by America’s Holocaust Museum as one of the world’s leading specialists on the subject of genocide.’

Leading authority Bartov told Amy Goodman of DemocracyNow! - “.... Zionism becomes a different thing. It becomes the ideology of the state.” But, hey, we knew this in November 2023.

Starry: Israel is an apartheid theocracy. A civilised democracy would not be apartheid, it would not be Zionist. ⬅️

There's nothing new about any of this. Israel has been engaged in the ethnic cleansing, torture and murder of the Palestinian population since it's foundation in 1948. The only difference lately is that the Oct 7th attacks have given them carte blanche to escalate their savagery, secure in the knowledge that the rest of the world will huff and puff but do nothing of any real consequence. Apart from a small minority of dedicated activists in groups like Peace Now, the majority of the Israeli public had no problem with the oppression of the Palestinians before Oct 7th and have had no problem with the genocide since then. The only action that would have any real impact on Isaeli state barbarism would be for the United States to cut off all financial and military aid. Which obviously will never happen short of some unthinkable revolutionary event like a Bernie Sanders or Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez presidency (don't hold your breath).

One good bit of news this weekend is that the proposed Iran deal is absolutely terrible for Netanyahu and the regime and out of them, the US and Iran, they are the big losers and come out of the first half of 2026 considerably (or even hugely) weakened.

Shock horror - Smotrich calls for West Bank to be annexed.

"Between the sea and the Jordan there will only be Israeli sovereignty." - Likud Charter

Haaretz straplines (free by email if you sign up)
Israel's finance minister, Bezalel Smotrich, who was barred from entering France last week for "actively promoting the annexation of the West Bank," said during a speech at a settlement that Israel should apply sovereignty in the West Bank before the next election, describing the move as "the ultimate response" to what he called an international diplomatic campaign against Israel.

Smotrich's comments come as his party, Religious Zionism, struggles to pass the electoral threshold in election polls.

Last week, after Britain, Canada, France, Australia and Norway announced new sanctions targeting six Israeli right-wing organizations and one far-right activist who "act with impunity in the West Bank," the Israeli government delayed for the third time a tender for 3,401 housing units in the highly contested E1 area, a project Smotrich once described as the answer to the "false Palestinian dream" of having a state.

Sanctions on settlers, calls to ban Israel from world sports and now calls for Israel to be chucked out of the World Medical Association.

    Haaretz straplines:
Meanwhile, Haaretz has learned that the Israel Medical Association warned Netanyahu of "ongoing severe damage" to the healthcare system in the West Bank due to Israel's withholding of customs revenues from the Palestinian Authority, and urged him to reconsider the policy.

In a letter sent by IMA President Prof. Zion Hagay last week, the association said the funding shortfall has left the Palestinian Health Ministry unable to pay full salaries to many public-sector healthcare workers and has contributed to mounting debts, with government hospitals and clinics operating at reduced capacity.

Citing firsthand accounts received by the association, Hagay added that all elective and semi-urgent procedures, defined as necessary but not immediately life-saving, have been suspended for more than a year, and that some patients have suffered complications, and others have died while waiting for treatment.

"This situation is not only a severe humanitarian crisis," he wrote, "but also has direct implications for public health and regional stability. The collapse of the Palestinian healthcare system could lead to the spread of disease, exacerbate civilian suffering, and increase instability."

On Saturday, the medical journal The Lancet reported on a call by several international medical organizations to boycott the IMA and suspend it from the World Medical Association, citing what they described as its failure to speak out against the "genocide in Palestine," as well as the destruction of the territory's health-care infrastructure.

Can you just imagine the propaganda on Israeli media to somehow validate the continuous discrimination and terrorism against the Palestinians in West Bank and Gaza. The dehumanisation must be off the charts.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

As far as I know, many media outlets in Israel don't report any news of Gaza/West Bank/Lebanon etc. (unless it's positive for Israel). Apparently many Israelis are blithely unaware because they don't read Haaretz…

I'd say some are in self-imposed denial but others simply don't care because they've no problem with Genocide, War Crimes and ethnic cleansing,

New rightwing Slovenian government has dropped its ban on transit of weapons to and from Israel.

Controversy over BBC covering up visit by Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar to Britain where he met Philip Rosenberg of the British Board of Deputies (largest British Jewish organisation with about 300 members), and politicians including Priti Patel. At first the BBC claimed the meeting was in Israel, when it was in London. They edited the story after being asked by it. Saar even admitted it was in London.

There seems to be some sort of coordinated silence on the visit being in London. The English newspapers are mostly not reporting on it eg the Daily Telegraph.

Saar is subject to an International Criminal Court arrest warrant, so the UK is failing to enforce it.

On Wednesday, 36 board members of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, the largest Jewish representative body in the UK, wrote a letter in the FT condemning Israel’s actions in Palestine and refusing to be represented by Benjamin Netanyahu’s “most extremist of Israeli governments”.

On Thursday, Phil Rosenberg, the president of the Board of Deputies, wrote on social media that he had met with the Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar – in what was widely read as a rebuke of the Jewish leaders who spoke against the Israeli government.

“Unity is strength. Division serves only our enemies,” Rosenberg wrote, sharing an image of himself shaking hands with Sa’ar.

The BBC reported on the split in the Board of Deputies, and in paragraph 14 of the story falsely claimed: “Mr Rosenberg also visited Israel on Thursday, where he met Israel's Minister of Foreign Affairs Gideon Sa'ar.”

The visit had in fact happened in London, where Sa’ar had been for days and is understood to be set to remain until Saturday.

After The National twice approached the BBC for comment on the inaccuracy, it was quietly changed on Friday morning.

The story now reads: “Mr Rosenberg also met Israel's visiting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gideon Saar, in London on Thursday.”

The BBC also added a correction at the end of the article, which read: "This article originally said Phil Rosenberg had visited Israel and met Israel's foreign minister there. In fact, their meeting took place in the UK during a visit by the minister.

"Fifa wants to schedule a symbolic match between Israel and Palestine as the opening game of a new under-15s tournament in the United States in September".

Can Palestine even field an under 15 team after Israel has killed all their children? Would they even be allowed in to the US?

You raise a very interesting point of discussion. The future of Israel, like everywhere really, could go in many directions. The upcoming election is possibly one of the most critical ones in a long time, given it's the first one since Oct 7th, and could set (or hopefully reset) the general direction the country is heading in.

I don't think you're being realistic in thinking Israel is in danger of not surviving. It started with a lot less going for it than it has now, even with all the current issues. It will change. It might become smaller (either in physical size or in population), or it might not. The Balance of the population might change in a big way (I think that is the biggest issue it is facing in terms of its long-term well-being). But it will not just disappear.

That sense of security that you refer to is probably the key to understanding the perspective of how this conflict looks to a large number of Israelis. They know that they can't lose a war. They think the consequences will be that most Israelis (them, their families, their neighbours and friends) will be wiped out if they do. That's a strong driver. Whether you agree or disagree with that, it's worth understanding the perspective. Any long-term peace arrangement will have a much better chance of happening, and holding, if these fears can be assuaged.

The security situation in Israel has been considerably worse in the past. It had to fight for its survival right from its founding in 1947. It was touch and go in the 1973 war, and they were lucky not to be overrun. A few small things going a different way could have been catastrophic for them. It's very interesting military history, and well worth reading into. And it's within living memory of a lot of Israelis.

And the main protagonists it faced in their big wars of survival are no longer major threats. They have a peace treaty with Egypt, which has worked as well as anyone could have hoped. They have no conflict with Jordon, and relations are much better than in the past. And now Syria is no longer a military threat (possibly an unforeseen consequence of Hamas's attempt to initiate a multi-front war), since the fall of the Assad regime.

Can the 'Zionist regime' survive though? It seems an aggressive, militaristic, far right and hyper-nationalist state with a pro-war government, media and population. Difficult to see how a society of such extremes (probably much further to the right than Germany in the 1930s) can peacefully co-exist with its neighbours.

What exactly do you mean by the "zionist regime"? Do you mean the Israeli government? Do you mean the state of Israel? Or something different again?

Israel peacefully co-exists with its neighbours in Egypt and Jordan.
