As I said before, have a moan where it is valid and cogent. Contact Dublin Bus and complain about the perceived lack of use of the WS vehicles and see where that gets you.

EAs are likely too long to get up the route without trouble. They would be some of the longest buses in the fleet along side the VTs (regular size SDs tend to be quite long). In the DB and GAI fleet I believe the WSs are the only buses that can practicaly/safely handle the route.

I think DB actually own the WSs, where everything on the contract would have been NTA owned. I suspect that when the route goes to GAI, so will the WSs through some other agreement, or the NTA will look to purchase a BEV replacement and send the WSs to a LL operator.

The NTA are currently tendering for a new BEV SD framework since the ADL-BYD Enviro200s aren't made anymore (at least I believe the tender is still active). The document specifies the requirement for a shorter length bus, that could possibly be used to replace the WSs if they aren't transferred over. Though I think the main reason for the shorter option is for LL operators.

Because DB are desperate for more buses. They really shouldn't be deployed, but they might not have a choice. They only appear to be on the L25 during peak times and the 44D itself is just peak-only, so I doubt this is a choice they are making because the capacity is sufficient, but because otherwise the service gets cancelled.

I assume DB is doing what they think they can get away with between maintenance schedules and no more.

I don’t think DB are that desperate for buses!

DB aren’t short of buses strictly speaking, it is more of a case that they have kept older buses for longer then they would prefer.

I suspect DB would prefer to send out a Double Decker AX or EV then mess around with a WS!

2 WS’s are completely irrelevant compared to getting more of the new BEV buses on the road.

They are revelant because you need to think how would these WS buses are registered in 2017, and its 2026 now, so that means they are 9 years old now, and they can be withdrawn at any time.

Why would you all even entertain this guy with responses…?

€7 mil cost so far to store and maintain the unused buses, according to NTA that was the cheapest option!

The below is a general 'signature' and not part of any post:

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Public transport user? If you're sick of phantom ghost services on the 'official' RTI sources, check bustimes.org for actual 'real' RTI, if it's on their map it actually exists.

Is Donnybrook still pencilled in to get the chargers installed in their garage this year?

It can't be that long now to get them up & running.

You'd complain if the other WS was sitting in the yard and you complain that both are out in service and making money too... Can't win

Surprised there isn't more fanfare on this, but Next Gen Ticket trail is rolling out in Kildare South Dublin region for local link services.

Would be great to get a boardsie in the region to have a trip, video the process, etc. Just to share with the rest of us nerds on here.

I've noticed around Rathmines they had set up two cameras at the bus stop the other week. Does anyone know what that is about?

EDIT: I see someone on Reddit took a photo and it seems it's about Ghost buses? Is that correct?

Unfortunately I don’t think it is next gen ticketing or at least not the ABT system that Dublin is going to get.

They have been rolling this other system out to local link services around the country over the past year.

Because it's a very limited amount of services operating in sparsely populated areas

Indeed - this is a seperate initiative to the NGT scheme. On the TFI local link schemes this has rolled out to, it only allows you to purchase a single ticket fare. With NGT in place, you would instead be able to pay for multiple different tickets types. I believe even this current scheme will be replaced once the NGT rollout makes it to TFI local link services also.

There is some construction hoarding up right beside the bus terminus outside Blackrock Dart Station. The signage on it is from Clonmel Enterprises. Does anyone here know what type of work is going to take place there over the summer? The work is taking up one half of the car park outside the Dart Station. The other car park located outside the EducoGym over looking the bus terminus is still open as normal.

Its the construction yard being used for the living streets upgrades being done in Blackrock. Its been going on for a while now, I believe its planned to be completed around October.

Seen this update about the changes proposed for Dundrum posted by a TD, works for the layover reconfiguration & bus gate installation is due to commence in October. Also included is updates on the other initiatives planned for Dundrum.

Crossposting this from the Luas expansion thread, as this draft plan for Dunsink also has some proposals for new and existing routes that'd be marked as under BusConnects in page 29. Most of them are extensions of existing routes, though the document also mentions a new local route linking Dunsink to Blanchardstown, as well as a possible new B5 route that would operate through Dunsink as part of the B Spine, which seems like a headscratcher to me

    Link here:

I think some of this is widely optimistic on their part. We might get some bus route changes or maybe a new route but suspect the reliance on Dart/Luas updates won't happen as envisaged and it will become another car centric area as a result.

I'm not sure the Luas to Finglas extension would help here. It doesn't go past the area. I guess the N4 and 40e (with an improved freq) could help, but even then.

The changes to the 36 and N6 as well as a new local route all would make a lot of sense. Especially assuming by this point DART+ West would be complete. However, I completely agree that the B5 proposal doesn't really make sense. I imagine this is the type of thing that they have not consulted with the NTA about.

It would be a complete outlier from the rest of the B-spine. Even the little loop through Corduff is going to be served by a radial instead of a B-spine route, so I doubt the NTA would want to now introduce a deviation to serve Dunsink. Then there is also the question of what it will do on the south side, or if the southern half of the B-spine even needs an additional route.

Considering what they are proposing to do with Dunsink, a dedicated radial following the B-spine from Navan Rd I think would be great, but I just don't think it makes sense for that to be the B5.

Between Dunsink, Jamestown Road Industrial Estate and most likely Broombridge Industrial Estate, that's a lot of planned housing relying on a lot of the same public transport.

One of the great weaknesses of bus connects in my opinion is that it didnt include a non-spine radial that went the length of Ratoath Road and through stonwybatter and the quays to the city centre. An opportunity missed to connect a lot of trip generators with a proper radial service to the city centre.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,399 ✭✭✭Daith

Tbh if the 40e frequency was improved (and more reliable all round), that's probably all that's needed. A lot of people heading to the city centre would be fine switching to Luas at Broombridge.
