"Beheadings" is very much a dog whistle word. It is trotted out often by those trying to whip up fear and hatred of foreigners, particularly brown ones.

Not at all, your claim was each migrant was sending €4000 out of the country per annum, and this was a loss to the Irish exchequer, and there was no more to be said. I brought up a specific campaign point about Brexit because it used a similar tactic, we send X amount to the EU each day. The implication being, leave the EU we will be better off. Your implication was clearly the same, that if we stifled immigration significantly, we would have X billion more to use. This is grotesquely misleading.

You have not pulled it apart, you just said you didn't agree that migrants are more fiscally productive than the Irish, which wasn't what you actually started with (and I also don't really care, because that also lacks nuance). The study doesn't actually say or give an opinion on these things either way, they just state the facts and admit on the front page that decisions on the years of analysis and the factors they choose to assess can greatly affect the study, hardly hiding anything. The overarching conclusion was clearly, outside of recessionary times, that the public cost of our immigrants is covered by those immigrants in its entirety.

There is no dishonesty, I am merely pointing out that you pointing out one number as a fact, may be correct but to phrase that one number as an argument against immigration because it is a negative is misleading and dishonest, and I think you know that.

I have discussed the points, you have simply laughed and not engaged, which to me is the hallmark of a bad faith actor or someone who does not wish to engage in discussion, either way, not much more to be said if you won't discuss.

If you're running a 50 million business 3 million (even 1 million) is not a drop especially when you consider margins. IMO there should be zero government funding for MSM in a progressive society like Europe. Who's to say they won't increase the funding either because it keeps them onside.

As for the race card I meant throwing the word racist around. Ben is half Jamaican and his colleague Fatima is half Pakistani.

With that logic, you could also tell us that Priti Patel is Ugandan-Indian and Suella Braverman is Indian and would never appear to use the race card 🙄

The point is maybe there's an issue here other than race.

Take Fatima gunning for example. Her issue seems more with culture. She comes across as proud of her Pakistani roots but not proud of parts of the culture there which is heavily influenced by Islam. Her not wanting boat loads of people coming here from Pakistani is probably not because of their skin colour which she shares but more to do with the culture it'll bring.

It might also be the case that a lot of the Irish population don't want hardline fundamentalist Catholicism any more, because of the culture it brings. Evidence for that might include results of recent referenda, falling mass attendance, falling clergy numbers, etc. If you're of the opinion that we should indulge the Gript/Youth Defence people on those grounds, shouldn't we respect the contrary opinion too?

So you've basically no idea why she is like she is but are throwing guesses out there to explain her views? Really? 🙄

In lighter news, Ben is excited to have been on the Eddie Hobbs podcast. Really coming across as a credible journalist when you're on the podcast of the guy who pushes Rotschild conspiracy theories etc.

It does show the kinds of extreme demographics that they're trying to appeal to.

So it's really you who is throwing the race card around?

Gript bring balance on many issues. While they'd receive widespread support for their coverage of immigration the roles would be reversed in terms of what you just described.

You've obviously not followed her much if you don't know her stance on her ancestoral homeland and Islam. You'd take she hates Pakistan the way she goes on about Islam but she actually doesn't.

No just highlighting his ethnicity in relation to the daft soundbites that gets thrown his way.

Genuinely, why would I want to follow the likes of her?

Each to their own but don't pretend you know where she stands on certain issues if you don't. I'm off to enjoy the world cup and a bear so going to draw a line under this.

Is that why they've entirely avoided reporting on the riots in Belfast? Gript push an agenda and it's literally owned by religious extremists.

I have seen enough of where she stands on certain issues to see that she is a horrible excuse for a person not worthy of wanting to know more about.

Anyhow you go enjoy your bear!

The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God.

Never saw this. Saving it whenever someone who doesn't agree with the facts demands 'balance'.

Genuinely one of my biggest bugbears.

That is perhaps how you see the world. I see it in terms of skill levels.

A highly skilled immigrant in IT is going to make more of an impact than guy that can't read or write.

A lot of people in this thread clearly have no time for Gript, it's output, it's staff and it's general ideological standpoint.

Surely you just ignore it? Seem to spend a lot of your time on something you hate?

The worry is the effect that it's misinformation, racist talking points and the like the peddle has on the readers it does have. It's having a negative affect on the country.

Seems a reasonable response to a known toxic source of toxic misinformation.

This is just an attempt to shut down debate.

Louis Brandeis said that sunlight is the best disinfectant. I think that Gript's pushing of malignant ideologies should be exposed and debated. People have a right to know where the information they read is coming from and who funds it.

To use an example, a poster earlier in the thread apparently now believes that fisting and rimming are part of the school curriculum. Posters want people to be misinformed and to fear monger, gript's aim is to contribute to that. So they deserve to be highlighted for what they do.

The platform is run by a religious extremist. Their former editor ran a referendum campaign that manufactured news stories about fake nurses and abortions. One of their praised journalists in this thread actively pretended to be a repeal campaigner complete with an outrageous poster. The publication libeled a member of public for a crime he didn't commit. One of their other top journalists turned off a microphone in an effort to portray their platform as being silenced by ministers.

So I think all of these aspects should be highlighted and apparently posters aren't actually very capable of dealing with these facts. They think this is good journalism and that's pretty embarrassing. On the plus side, this thread may make some aware of what kind of platform they are.

As an example in real life, I was heading home in Feb 2024 when I encountered a protest along the road outside Honeywood House in Leixlip. Not knowing what it was about, I approached the small group and asked.
When I was told that it was being bought for use as an IPAS centre, I asked how they knew and a number of them confirmed that it was Grift. Grift was the only one that told the truth as it is apparently.
I asked if there had been any other confirmation of this and they challenged me for being a government stooge, etc.

A few days later, Honeywood House was set on fire.

Coincidentally a day or so the fire after I watched a video on Twitter of one of the protesters I spoke to (who I know as he was a former neighbour) trespassing outside the house and looking in windows, etc. The video was taken down another day or two later.
In June 2024, I met the same lad chauferring Herman Kelly outside another IPAS centre in Leixlip. Kelly was standing outside the car looking at planning application notices. I told him and the lad to GTF away as they weren't welcome there. They didn't look too bothered until I mentioned about Honeywood House being torched which is when Kelly looked at the lad, got back in the car and they left.

Why would I ignore misinformation from an outlet that is a member of the Press Council?

I'd say "watch the vIdeo", but I wouldn't recommend that to anyone, like something out of a zombie movie

Was it an attempted beheading or not? I've heard the reports of the victim losing an eye, and with serious damage to his other eye, so I presume he also has serious wounds around his neck, where the attempt was made to sever his head from his body …

    I'm asking for clarity
