Very cool info and honestly some of the features mentioned are pretty huge such as the blinds pot cameras, sentry and full launcher customisation.

Huge plus for those who enjoy a tinker 👏

It's marketed that way alright , but I'd suggest that a model 3 has better quality interior materials with the seal having a more traditional layout. Depends on which aesthetic you prefer but that doesn't equate to premium .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 35,672 ✭✭✭✭listermint

Disagree Tesla don't actually purchase the most quality materials and have consistently cost cut in all areas. They only recently added sound deterant glass to their lineup despite premium competitors and byd having had this since launch.

They're making additional improvements to materials but that's not a decision it's a response to the market competition coming from china. The notion that Tesla interiors are and have always been high quality isn't accurate. They cut the model S due to cost of production in no part I'm sure due to the requirements of spec in that class.

I love to tinker around myself. And the features look good. But I'd still be wary on a car in warranty. Plus if something went wrong she'd murder me.

Model 3 got the sound deterrent glass in the 2021 facelift. Essentially when the China plant start producing. So not “recently”.

Seal had it from launch as it was only launched in late 2023. It would be fairly obvious it had it from launch compared to the 2017 launch of the model 3.

Both cars are very similar in quality nowadays, especially comparing like for like, Model 3 Highland V Seal. The Fremont Model 3, although not as bad as the media made it out to be, is a world apart from the current line up.

747 cockpit V minimalist cockpit is very much a subjective choice and there’s no right or wrong, only they way you like it. It doesn’t make a car more premium than the other IMO.

The proof will be in the sales. Seal sales have been dropping year or year and that’s before this price increase so BYD/MSL will have to do something for them to continue selling or to increase sales to match their competition.

No idea what they were like in the past I'm comparing a current juniper versus a current sealion 7 which I assume is the same equivalent as a model 3 v a seal.

The glass the juniper had at launch.

Remember the seal is a 30k usd car in it's home market the materials are very good with that considered .

    From Google.
Model S and Model X discontinuation.

Tesla's Chief Designer, Franz von Holzhausen, and Vice President of Engineering, Lars Moravy revealed that the decision to sunset the flagship vehicles was actually made over a year and a half ago.

The choice was driven not by popularity, but by a combination of aging safety architecture and a desperate need for new manufacturing space.

Beyond the physical limitations of the platform and the factory, the decision also came down to Tesla's ultimate corporate vision. The company is aggressively pivoting toward a fully autonomous future, heavily prioritizing the upcoming Robotaxi Network and Optimus.

No idea where people get the info from that it was due to costs as they had no shortage of orders and the car itself had no shortage of spec in that class.

I have nothing against the Seal car but all the so-called 'PREMIUM' talk is just ridiculous. It's a cheapish Chinese saloon that sells in China from around €25000.All from a new car company albeit one that's investigating heavily seemingly.

Just reviewed the thread after a couple of days away. Sweet Christ, over 100 posts…..and apart from a couple of nuggets, the vast majority are absolute tit-for-tat bollox. The usual suspects hard at it, I see.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 768 ✭✭✭Anois_

You guys keep turning it around as if we are the ones one started it. I even said the last day if you don't want to say anything good about the Seal stay out of the thread. I know for a fact I wouldn't get away with posting sh*t about the Model 3 in that thread everyone would be on me in seconds.

You three keep saying we are defending the car while it's you three that keep putting the seal down as if it's some kind of agenda to stop as many people as possible of thinking about buying a Seal. I don't know how you three see it any different.

So only post good things about a car?

We are not allowed post direct experience of the bad things, yeah ok. That’s not how a public forum works.

If you can post where I’ve slatted the seal please as you can’t seem to quote me in anything of the sort.

Just for the record this is when Tesla was brought into it responding to a poster who posts more negative stuff about Tesla than most as it goes. And yes the Tesla threads are full of people with opinions about Tesla's plenty of them negative , not sure why this has to be a designated safe space ?

I wonder will @Anois_ acknowledge their mistake and wrongful attacking now.

To be fair I don't think I've seen anyone pop into the model 3 thread with this stuff. Does this happen ? When ? Ive yet to see any vehicle owners from another brand perform a pile on action there.

Is the Tesla thread itself alot of Tesla related conversation yes. But that's about it.

Maybe create a byd thread and you can do this there ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,382 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

Sorry what stuff? since you are replying to me directly if you take issue with anything ive said im happy to discuss. There is no pile on, i have gone on record as saying i think the seal is a fine car, thats why i follow the thread. I liked it so much that i assumed when i moved out of the uber depreciating german evs and tried something a bit more wallet friendly that it would be a sealion 7 id go for.

Ive said all this before but to repeat i took extended test drives in the 7, the Xpeng G6 and the Juniper, and the BYD was a bit of a disappointment and for me was bottom of the list. If i had to pick an interior out of the 3 it would have been the xpeng, but as an all rounder the Juniper edged it. It wasnt a decision based on price as i went for LR juniper with an expensive paint colour and white interior, so all i am doing is giving my own opinion which is informed by actually trying all of them out. (and i have been in the seal and m3 highland as well, the juniper and SL7 are very closely related so comments relate to both)

The Seal is BYDs answer to the model 3, its a volume selling, good value product that sells for 25k (about 5k less than an equivalent M3H in the chinese market). So where i disagree with folk is that we are supposed to see it as a premium product (which is exactly what the importers want) and there is a sneery undertone of superiority here with some posters here (youve done it yourself) when comparing the seal to the model 3. Yes its more akin to a traditional car and maybe an easier segway for people but thats a taste thing, personally i much prefer teslas interior but im into the whole scandi minimalist vibe anyway its just an opinion.

Finally my thoughts on the seal, personally i probably favour the external looks of the highland slightly, the interior definately but i can see how someone would oppose that for sure. If i wanted the entry level premium version of both id have a hard time justifying the soon to be 5k difference between the M3 LR RWD Premium and the RWD BYD especially losing 100km of range between the two, and if you arent as fussed about premium and range its an ever bigger gallop from the entry model 3 at 39k and similar range. That said if i wanted the performance versions id probably be taking a closer look at the seal as its better value but i wish they made it stand out from the regular versions a bit more.

So if you want to take me to task on any of that happy to discuss. As for people popping in to the model 3 or model y threads it happens plenty, unfortunately the search function of boards is so crap i cant be bothered spending any more time on this but there are plenty of posts about nazis, how basic the interior is, how they fall to pieces, the juniper is ugly, people buying teslas should be ashamed, etc etc. Someone on here posted about the 3 being a bubble car, maybe the original cant see how youd conclude that about the highland tho?

Final thing, the only thing i am a fan boy of is german cars, ive had maybe 20 bmws, audis and mercs, i wont have another tesla after this one as they dont have anything else for me really (shame the X is no more).

BYD channel is largely irrelevant to the current discussion as it specifically relates to the price increases on the Seal.

This is the Seal thread so seems appropriate to post here.

Premium or not premium, who cares. I was one of the first batch of people to buy a seal delivered back in Jan '24. My previous 2no cars were BMW's which I loved but always became bored of. I rarely kept a car longer than 18 months. At 57yrs old and 15k mileage on my 2.5yr car I am happy to drive this into the ground so I guess its premium to me.

Mod Note: Stop the bickering on threads, I'm not giving warnings either way this time due to the clear tit for tat nature. If it picks up again all people involved will be given a thread ban.

I don't miss the indicator stalk being on the "wrong" side. Took me ages to adjust to it on my first Seal.

Then on my second Seal it's on the "correct" side, the right side, and it took me ages to adjust back.

I still sometimes hit the wipers now instead of indicating.

Got used to the indicators on right very quickly seems more natural now. When I drive the wife's Suzuki find it awkward now

35 posts deleted from this thread that added absolutely zero to the conversation

It is clear that some people are incapable of civil discussion with each other, so may I suggest the adult approach of rising above childish arguments and ignoring each other.

Other people who want to engage with the thread shouldn't have to wade through pages of schoolyard stuff.

Thanks to @liamog for handling the thread but he really shouldn't have to step in and put a stop to a pissing match.

Is it possible to have the tyre pressure displayed on the center screen or has that feature been removed. I can get it on the driver display but can't find option to have it on center screen
