Lidl in a national issue letter to the Minister for Environment, highlighted Portumna and Loughrea as locations where competitors were abusing the court option in the planning processhttps://www.connachttribune.ie/news/court-action-bids-to-stop-opening-of-lidl-stores-5593565

I don't live in the city anymore and have a neck injury that prevents me from driving at the moment…

There had been chatter that a certain business owner in Loughrea has been weaponising objectors so I guess good for Lidl for taking them on and at least moving the allegations from chatter to the courts

Haven't been in Galway in many many months and it's interesting to see the few changes.

Starbucks in Gemelles is quite disappointing to see however in the current climate it is a much more reliable business in that location.

Good to see Edward Square have a bit of life back in it.

While I've little interest in nandos, it's nice to see that building isn't rotting away anymore.

The downstairs of the eyre square shopping center by the Eglington Street corner entrance is looking no different and very sad nowadays, with all those empty units. That Bia Boru place also finally shut up shop, not at all surprised at that. Something with a little vision could do well there.

Downstairs of the Eyre Square shopping center (where Costa currently is) would be ideal for an indoor food market - something inspired by the Seven Dials Market in London comes to mind.

It would provide a great location for local vendors to set up some tasty food items.

There was a sign on it a few weeks ago about rennovations.

Ah ok, can't imagine there's be a lot to renovate in such a small space. Not in a hurry doing it anyway.

Yeah, must not be in a hurry because I saw a sign there a good few weeks ago, I think it was early May. I wonder if they put it up initially and then took the sign down and now aren't going to re-open. I use to frequent one of the other locations, it seems a lot less busy than a few years ago and their prices are way up. Tou

After the backlash of Starbucks opening on Quay Street, Galwegians will be delighted to know Starbucks are opening another cafe in Galway SC on Headford Road!(merged units 60 and 61)

GSC got planning to merge two units and convert to a cafe / restaurant ages ago (over a year), and has been looking for tenants. Seems no locals wanted the opportunity, so best of luck to Starbucks. I don't think they'll do well there (wrong crowd). But who knows. And better to see a unit occupied than not.
