Would ya take him if it meant 'Stephen' would stay on ?

As usual a purely hypothetical question but how would a fully fit/strength Waterford team have done against Galway or Dublin…?

Dublin’s game plan / tactic seemed to be to send in high balls to their target man heatherton ….. it worked against kk but did he even make one clean catch today….?

Wides definitely killed them, but as you said Laois certainly moved the ball a lot better, and seemed to have more about them.

I came across this at half time in the Joe Mc game yesterday.

Worth filling out if anyone has any great opinions of improving the game of hurling.

Great win for the camogie girls over Tipp today in their first championship match

    A really silly question.

Stephen will continue to play until his body prevents him from playing, the lad lives and breeds hurling as he has shown by playing through the pain barrier over the years.

Hypothetically if we were to get into third spot I certainly wouldn’t have been fearing Dublin in an AI quarter final .

Hypothetically, if my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle!

Messing aside, I wouldn't fear Dublin. Galway gave us a bit of a trimming in the league, they look like they are on the right trajectory but I also wouldn't overly fear playing them.

Here is the thing with us, if we were to play Dublin or Galway, we wouldn't be favourites but would/could expect a win and not sure how we deal with that based on previous games.

I think V Clare and Tipperary, we weren't favourites but two games we all possibly expected us to get something from, where as Limerick and Cork were big favourites against and we seemed to play better in both those games.

We seem to do much better as the complete underdog, that's possibly down to the pressure of never getting out of munster in the round robin, a heavy weight in games where you feel you can get something that may get you over the line.

Darragh wasn’t exactly great with the minors and it’s the Ballygunner style or no way , which didn’t exactly suit on occasions

Am only speaking in hypotheticals, but some lads get a rude awakening from being the star player on a club team to being a body on a county team. i would fully believe ballygunners standards would be higher than what most minors are used to , particularly those with enough talent to make a minor team, who likely never struggled or had to try before

surely not, doesn't he need a decent break away from the pressures of the inter county game now

    gutted to be honest

would like to thank Peter for his efforts over the last two years, some of us may not have agreed with his tactics at times but the man’s heart was in the right place and it looked like the players were all united behind him. Have to say I enjoyed how we set up this year with more emphasis on attack and more entertaining hurling but from Peter’s perspective getting out of Munster was the goal and unfortunately That has not been achieved. I taught if he wanted he would get another year but going by his comments not all on the county board wanted him.
there were a few rumours circulating since last week that duck was gone because of a falling out with Peter and Shane o Sullivan also gone because of an incident with a player. Maybe these episodes may have influenced the county boards decision.
hard to know where we go from here. Have always liked pat Ryan as a person and manager carries himself very well so maybe himself and duck would be our best option. Not a whole lot else out there to be honest unless we go for someone up and coming but unproven at senior intercounty level similar to when we went for Liam Cahill and Micky bevans

I don’t envisage it happening, but if he’s not getting the Kilkenny gig Brian Dowling would have to be a contender.
I think Duck might go for it as manager.

Thanks to Peter for giving the role everything. What a servant to Waterford hurling.

As for his replacement, there are no real obvious candidates but can’t help but feel this could be one of the most important appointments in a very long time. Considering the minor ai win last year and the likely retirements over the next 2 years, serious thought will have to go into what’s the best move for Waterford going forward.

I’ve always liked pat ryan and dowlings been mentioned here too, but if either of there native counties came knocking would that leave us in the dark like the Cahill scenario.

Joxer will surely be considered, i know taking that crop through to 20s was the most logical move, but maybe he’s needed at senior now for what could be a rebuild over the next few years. I always felt Jason Ryan’s move to ballygunner had the inter county job in mind. Darragh O Sullivan if he wants it will also surely be considered. Haven’t heard of molumphy as of late but know he was involved with Kerry. Pat Bennet would be like Davy in disguise.

The one thing that doesn’t fill me with confidence is Queallys mention of the county boards lack of support in his statement. God forbid it’s Davey part 3

Sure there is no pressure with us. Quilify he's a hero, fail he's the same as the rest.

    Any Ryan will do!!!

We were competitive in the championship that’s for sure but bottom line if you said we would be relegated in the league ( yes it is important) but more importanty not win a game in Munster you’d have to think his contract wouldn’t be renewed . Think we need a new manager with a new perspective we definetly need different men on the sidelines some of them were stealing a living in last few years . Onwards and upwards.

Nobody disputes that Peter Queally is as decent as the day is long but sport at this level is a results business and the manager is usually the fall guy.

Surely the next appointment will be either Pat Ryan, Joker or Jason Ryan. No need for any ex managers to apply !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 435 ✭✭Montys return

There's not a hope Pat Ryan is taking that job.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,860 ✭✭✭Mastermcgrath

agreed. Also worth noting that Queally came in prior to the chairman Neil Moore, Moore has stamped his own mark with the u20 and minor management teams and I suspect he has a vision for the senior management team aswell. is this what Queally referred to when he didn’t feel he always had full backing of the board? But as you say it’s a results business and over the course of the 2 years we still didn’t get out of Munster and find ourselves back in 1B, he didn’t really have a strong case to make.

As said above though I’m gutted to see him go. A homegrown manager, a tremendous leader as he was as a player who had the whole county behind him. I wish him well

I'll be blunt here about it Waterford hurling is screwed if Davy Fitz is back for another stint as manager. It sounds to me that Peter Queally was forced out against his own will, with some of the county board meddling way in the background as well. I don't know if Pat Ryan wants it but Cork managers seem to work out very well for Waterford. I thought he did a fine job as Cork manager but unfortunately he just wasn't able to get us over the line in the end.

Don't know what is peoples fascination with Joxer and saying he should be considered for the top job now🤣😂

Hes taken 2 different clubs as manager to AI finals winning county and provincials along the way.

Won an all Ireland minor with Waterford as manager.

If I was to hazard a guess it would be related to that.
