I'm of the age and income that vest and jumper are standard dress. Hat and gloves in the house is still a no no.

The same amount of rain that fell in April and May combined pretty much. Nature always finds a way of evening things out over the medium term.

We'd a very wet winter. But spring (March to May) wasn't nearly as wet in the East as some seem to think it was.

Thankfully it hasn't felt that cool in Dublin anyway. Around 17 or 18º each day. Bang on average for the time of year.

The next few days look cool alright. But tentative signs on the charts this morning for something a bit warmer in over a week. So let's see…

Yes, what's often considered 'bad' weather on here is very often just standard Irish weather. The very warm end of May probably makes things in June feel a bit cooler for some than it otherwise would have…and it's a bit different further West as you say.

It's a pity you feel you'd catch flak or grief for just quoting statistics. Don't ever stop with the stats — regardless of what they show — you're such a great mine of information. Keep it up — as well as the photography of course!

Update now that I'm home from Wexford. I was a bit frustrated at the forecast given what we just had, but that was all. Only notable time off from work all year and it happened to be the worst weather week in quite a while. Nothing more, but thanks for the kind words @waterfaerie.

In the end we were lucky enough. We were based in Wexford town and the weather there was better than most. We had rain, mainly yesterday morning and even then it was just shower dodging.

We spent much of Wednesday in Rosslare where we had uninterrupted blue skies all day, despite everywhere getting lashed on. It was quite windy though.

Let's hope that the weather settles down again soon. I think the Irish have some justification in complaining about our weather. Yes, this is normal, but even still we fare worse than most in Western Europe. It's easy to get jealous of warm, settled weather that is pretty much guaranteed in most of the continent.

Your point about Met E terminology is spot on.

I really think they need a very detailed style and communications guide outlining how to describe temps based on the time of year and the anomaly v the long-term average.

It really feels like some of their weather forecasts can be very biased depending on who has written them and weather the person felt cool or warm on a particular day lol.

We're just on a casual chat forum, people complain about the cold because they feel cold I suppose🤷 We don't need to qualify all our observations and experiences with statistics. I do take the point about the "worst ever" type stuff but that's just recency bias or whatever, I noticed the same with the thunderstorm the other night, it was a nice little storm but people caught up in the moment were calling it the best storm they'd ever seen etc.

Out of curiosity I just had a quick look at historic stats for Dublin airport and fed the values into Claude, it comes back as the second wettest start to June on record (the wettest being in the 1950s so essentially the wettest in living memory) and the 18th windiest (again most of the windiest were in the 40s/50s), so it's definitely not been a normal start to the month, by the weekend we're likely going to already have more than 100% of our monthly rainfall.

Of course, but you said "I don't see how anyone can seriously argue otherwise" and I'm just saying I haven't felt that cold and tried use some stats to back it up.

I don't necessarily trust AI for detailed weather stats. Yet. But I do agree with you that a lot of rain has fallen this month as that's on the MET E site. But it does follow a very dry two months in the East at least (is this where you are too?).

But yes, I'm not saying it's necessarily been a great start to summer. Can't say I've noticed the wind, but if that's what the official stats say I won't argue otherwise.

But as Sryan kind of alluded to, my point is more around 'worst ever' posts etc etc. And "it's colder than ever as I turned the heating on." (we almost all do it every summer at some stage I would argue).

Sometimes I think people's memory only lasts a week or two when it comes to the weather.

Anyway, tentative signs it'll be nicer in just over a week and hopefully we'll all be agreeing then on how nice the weather is lol.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Wexford, Wicklow and Dublin are added to the yellow rain warning in operation for Cork and Waterford. These south tracking lows with wraparound fronts tend to be slow moving and can give prolonged and heavy rain on the east coast, as an ancient weather lore says - ‘rain from the east 24 hours at least’

What i take from this is that you're 25/26. Really? I would've assumed you were 20 years older but still 20/30 years younger than the majority of posters on this thread who i reckon are all in their 60s/70s (I don't mean to offend any regulars in this thread if that's not the case).

I escaped with just an isolated shower in Meath. The main rainband is just reaching us now. Great win for the ladies in the rain in Cork.
