Waking up today feeling quite frustrated. I have my first full week off work in 2026 this week. We normally try and get a cheap flight to a European city when taking extended time off.

My wife no longer wants to travel during peak months because of airport chaos and extreme heat, so I agreed (reluctantly tbh) to stay in Ireland this week. Booked a few days away in Wexford thinking it should be nice in early June.

It now looks like it will be cool and rainy for most of our time down there. I'm sure we will still have a nice time, but it's really disappointing to have first week off in ages and get awful weather.

I know you feel disappointed now but take each day as it is and make the best of it. The weather is one thing but you'll be multiplying your problem if you let it annoy you. Expectation is a major cause of a lot of suffering in life and we do it to oursleves.

If you can let go of your expectations for the type of hoilday you were imagining in Wexford, I'm sure you'll be able to have a different type of wonderful time whatever the weather is like.

The Met Eireann graphics on their twitter are not bad compared to the RTE broadcast

Looks to me like the first half of this month will be this dreadful showery mullarkey. Our so called summer is such a short season in Ireland.

Warmest spring on record for England and Wales. Joint 6th warmest for the North. 3rd warmest spring for the UK overall. Series began 1884.

    image.png

Some areas of England saw just 1/3rd of normal rainfall for Spring.

Think I heard a couple of rumbles here in D13 but living near the airport flight path it's hard to tell one from the other when it's distant. A few showers today but not the worst day overall, still felt warm

There was an error displaying this embed.

seemed like a very late warning, got badly caught out after heading out at 5pm to forecast of potentially a shower or two at most. 45 minutes of thunder and lighting and torrential rain basically starting at same time as warning issued.

A disgusting start to summer in Cork city today. Grey overcast crap and it was brighter tonight at ten o clock than it was for a large part of the day.

We had some serious thunder in Celbridge around 7-8pm. Didn't see any flashes, but got a fright from the bang at one stage. I hate it. Reports of flooding all around North Kildare and also of leaking buildings around Lucan after major downpours. A wet day with an awful muggy feeling but the rain wasn't actually that heavy here until the last half hour.

I would like a stable northerly flow. Sunny, still warm in the sun and fresh at night.

Ferocious thunder storm here at moment, haven't heard anything like it since 80's ot 90's. I'll admit it scared the life out of me😱

Caught out golfing in a thunderstorm yesterday evening. Worst I've seen in years. Then woken up to worse overnight. The rain was unreal. At one point there was a flash ever second or two. Epic

No such drama here in north Longford. Cloudy but dry here overnight and this morning. I see on met eireann long range forecast that this week and start of next, frequent rain and showers, then it looks like the onset of a good warm dry spell. Hopefully that pans out.

Last night was easily the biggest storm I have seen in Dublin since 2023 and some of the loudest thunder I have heard out of any storm. 2023 was the last decent storm season with three decent or brilliant storms on 8th May (this one was phenomenal for my area), 25th June and 25th August. Only thing is these were all during the day. We had 19th October 2022 as well before that. Been crap since. If we're not going to get pleasant sunny warm spells or heatwaves, next best thing.

This date 51 yrs ago in England , one of England's latest recorded snowfalls.

A few days later a heatwave started and summer 1975 would go onto be a good summer and precursor to the famous summer of 1976.

Just back from a few days away in Basque Country. Bilbao and San Sebastian. Beautiful place. I highly recommend. 13C today in Leitrim. Heavy showers. Spending my day looking at Aer Lingus app for flights.
