Well no - you claimed they weren't horrified, and I'm querying that. You need to back up your initial claim here. That's how debating works.

However, I can show you that Netanyahu has about 40% approval, which is comparable - maybe slightly higher - than, say, Mícheál Martin has here. So I don't think your random speculation on the Israeli players' views holds that much water.

Whoever sells Palestinian flags online is about to make a killing.

Hope the whole country is decked with them when the scum arrive.

    The whole country

why not deck out the country in an Irish flag given it's them playing Israel ….pro-Pallys might not object to that this time 😂

Why support Ireland when you can support Palestine!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,925 ✭✭✭sonofenoch

The whole thing is really quite bizarre, like a mass hypnosis some seem actually excited by the prospect of protest it's become tribal like that of supporting a football team…..the rude awakening when it's shown the appetite from the general public is not there, you can agree it's an awful thing but it is on all sides…there's nothing we can do in this part of the world to affect change

Bizzare that 'Irish' people will cheer on Genocide propoganda.

You'd have no problem playing Nazi Germany I assume.

    Great bunch of lads.

Just because you go to a football match to watch your team play football and support your team does not mean you support one political agenda over another.

The FAI should limit the attendance of the Israel home game to season ticket holders only who have held season tickets since before this group was drawn. ID to be checked on entry.

If season ticket holders want to protest then fair enough. The game shouldn't be hijacked by nutters who never show an interest in football unless there is a political angle they can exploit for their own benefit.

    Named in the U21s squad.

First time call ups for Rory Finneran, Sean Keogh, Gabriel Kelly, Cillian Murphy, Naj Razi, Gbemi Arubi, John O’Sullivan, and Kian McMahon-Brown.

Young lad Cillian Murphy from Limerick but playing with Cork is meant to be gifted.

Speaking of the U21s I see that Sinclair Armstrong who had a decent enough record at that grade and got one senior cap is off to Turkey. He looked promising at QPR in a poor team before going to Bristol City where he didn't set the world on fire. They've a new manager who clearly didn't fancy keeping him so the move to Göztepe S.K. (being honest, don't think I ever heard of them) is a bit of an odd one. Having said that, with the recent trend of young Irish players doing well outside the UK, you'd hope it works for him.

He is a strong and hard working lad but don't think he is a natural goalscorer

    I agree.

Im just wondering though why people turned blind eye to Qatar last week. They killed thousands to build stadiums.

Was bit ironic of Richie Sadler to be a hero on what he said but he was broadcasting last week right under the Qatar flag.

Wonder will cricket team get much presure to cancel there match against Afghanistan next month.

I be on the boycott side by way just wonder though are we just going ignore everywhere else that also has appalling human rights record.

I understand the argument you're making but I think you're setting an unattainable standard. Just because there is more than one thing wrong at any given time doesn't mean that you cannot protest/complain about something without being a hypocrite.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,097 ✭✭✭✭johnnyryan89

And Richie Sadler was very loud and vocal when it came to Qatar, FIFA, and the 2022 WC.

Ya look every country has something over them. Ireland even.

But I suppose what im saying is that countries I mentioned have ongoing issues that have been around for years. Qatar just recently had over 7,000 migrants killed many to build stadiums.

I might be coming across as Pedantic but its not my intention.

I guess im trying understand it from other point of view where they see somebody like me who wants Isreal game boycotted but then as fans dont have problem when a country like Qatar show up and Afghanistan roll into town.

I think its trying find the balance.

But if you have a problem with people going to the game in October but no problem with games against other such nations then you are not being truthful about it.

Richie Sadler had no problem taking money the other night or for last World Cup, but now saying this is wrong. That is being some bit of a hypocrite if people are honest.

Thats all I will say on it.

    Cause this will rumble on.

    Find a balance IMO.

Play the game in a neutral venue, behind closed doors. Encourage the players to release their own statement ahead of the match.

I wouldn't give the Israeli football team or Israeli Govt the satisfaction of the default wins, the six points and the opportunity to top the group.

Equally, we'll have made our point.

Playing in the Aviva is gonna be a sh*tshow.

One of the problems there is the fai will have to refund season ticket holders 20% of their value youd imagine…and they are in no position to be issuing refunds.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,815 ✭✭✭tigger123

It's a small price to pay in order to sidestep this situation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,815 ✭✭✭tigger123

Also, the FAI could justifiably argue that they're reacting to a situation brought about by a lack of leadership by the Govt. The Govt can pony some of it up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,355 ✭✭✭Stanley 1

FAI can always apply to the Govt to pony up, given they are paying for everything else after Delaney's robbing tenure.

Why would the IRFU even allow this game to go ahead, protestors could damage the stadium or damage the pitch.

Very risky/silly to bite the hand that feeds though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,815 ✭✭✭tigger123

Given the option, the Government would be happy I'm sure to see this match played at a neutral venue behind closed doors.

Nobody want's the hassle of all this.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 7,657 Mod ✭✭✭✭cdeb

Possibly so. But I don't agree when you say "FAI could justifiably argue that they're reacting to a situation brought about by a lack of leadership by the Govt." The FAI can't go making such claims about the government - in public at least - because it has to work with the government. Your suggestion is the nuclear option.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,355 ✭✭✭Stanley 1

If this match goes to a neutral venue far away, the FAI could always put a claim in for compensation on gate receipts, lost catering and bar revenue, choc-ice sales………

Hate break your heart jolly fellow but the government give the rugby lads an old pound or two also

Of course they do but they don't repay their debts and to date bring the CEO to court on corruption charges.

FAI are scared shitless about what else Delaney will uncover, so lucky the Govt does not want to spend any more money which might lead them to pay compensation.

Arsenal’s Ceadach O’Neill made his debut for Northern Ireland today. He was a player who we would have fancied to switch to us but looks unlikely now. He’s from Derry and is a forward.

Evan Ferguson a doubt for our opening NL games. There's more damage to his ankle than first thought which could see him out until Sept/Oct.
