What an embarrassment. As you say, stuff like this happens when those around him can't say no.

However, I would have another take on it. It isn't that Trump is going off on some mad bender; it is a diversion tactic. The Iran war is a disaster. The 'Fund for celebrating cop killing' has been cancelled due to the enormous pushback from the GOP. There is growing evidence, and pushback, on Trump's insider dealing in the market. Gas prices continue to go up, and grocery prices continue to go up.

So he gets to waste a huge amount of time talking complete nonsense, which is a double win. It reduces the time available for anyone to ask about the real issues, and many people will latch onto this issue rather than all the other issues.

Very well worked out . How did you do it? I am scratching my head as to how you worked it out. I aced my fifth cognitive test just last week . But I am now suspicious that the private agency I used is a spurious one - a ‘cowboy one’ to us Irish !,,,,,,,!

The depressing thing is it sort of works and the scumbag and his minions are not and probably wont be held properly accountable for the damage/destruction/stupidity they are responsible for

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,416 ✭✭✭✭Leroy42

It doesn't sort of work. It 100% works.

Trump, Rubio, Hegseth etc should be being torn apart for the disaster of the Iran war. One of the worst foreign policy mistakes ever made and there is hardly a murmur.

it’s like telling jokes. It’s the way you tell them that matters.
have you forgotton that in carrying out this measurement that Trump is using the same method/ calculus, I ASSUME , that he used wen calculating the price reduction of medicines, etc, by 200, 300, 400, and up to 600% !!!!!!!!!!!!

Would not be surprised if it came from one of his cognitive tests - " which one of these is not a skyscraper?"

    Aced it.

Hegseth, who rails against personnel being hired on the basis of race and gender, denies promotional candidates based on race and gender:

Trump moving to dismantle an ocean monitoring station. Seen as another assault on climate science, at behest of Big Oil. Monitors things like the Gulf Stream.

They would be if there was a proper house where these clowns could be held accountable for their crimes. There's no such place in American politics tough. And there's no leader of the opposition, which is why it looks like the Democrats are AWOL. There's no chamber that can be used to question the President about his decisions. There's no "no confidence" vote that can do away with dangerous narcissistic piss pots like Trump.

American, so called, "democracy" is built on bullshit, where someone can promise the people anything and then have four guaranteed years to do the exact opposite of everything they said in their campaign, and there's very little than can be done about it. There's impeachment, but that's been shown to be pretty toothless.

The Americans don't have a Parliamentary system so there would be no point in a Leader of the Opposition. In the UK, the Executive and the Legislature are fused together. In the US, they're completely separate, something an American former acquaintance used to love boasting to me about.

I'm not an expert on the subject but presumably the logic behind the system is that Congress holds the Executive to account and the people hold Congress to account via elections. Of course, this is essentially a Republican flavoured version of the British system. It was built for Thirteen Colonies, not a colonial empire of fifty self-governing states.

In other words, the system wasn't built for the load it now carries. John Adams' famous quote about two parties refers to exactly this I would think. It held because both parties accepted the system in its entirety and thus there was no means to systematically alter its core.

The result is that democracy in America is a closed shop. There are no Socialists, Environmentalists, Communists, Libertarians or UK-style One Nation Conservatives outside of fringe elements of the big two. Ironically, in a country that prides itself on liberty and democracy, there's no innovation in politics. It stays the same while both parties engage in reprehensible nonsense inimical to the interests of the American people. The Republicans are too malevolent while the Democrats are too weak and deferential.

I think there is democracy. There was a choice between a sensible candidate and the sundowning satsuma and they chose the latter. It was a real choice. It's just that power has been thoroughly divorced from the wishes, beliefs and aspirations of all but very few sections of the American public and this is the result.

    That's the point.

Is it not a bit simpler than that? i.e. the President simply has too much power. No President should be able to go to war, for example, in the way Trump has, without the active participation of Congress (and yes, I know about the War Powers Act, but as we have seen there are far too many loopholes). Executive orders (which Trump has largely been ruling under) should be strictly time-limited and subject to congressional approval after said time limit, or otherwise automatically lapse.

There are of course other issues e.g. gerrymandering, the makeup of the Senate, the filibuster etc, and furthermore a cult like the current GOP is never going to put guardrails on anyone from their side of the aisle, if they have the majority in either house.

I've not been following the thread - the less said about Trump the better in my opinion but spotted this this morning and felt the need to post it.

Donald will be in for his cut on this as it is part of Affinity Partners, SA/Qatar/UAE stumped up $5.5bn to Jared to invest on their behalf, nice money for a real estate landlord type, Jared picks up at least $10m monthly on fees alone.

So the guy in charge of building the super secure mega bunker for the US President is in Russia telling them all about it.

    Really??

Headline on the RTE Account on threads...

Donald Trump has given his definition of a ceasefire in the Middle East.

When asked by a reporter, the US President said that in that part of the world, a ceasefire is when “you’re shooting in a more moderate manner”.

His definition? Since when did we allow others to change the f**king meaning of a word?

    1000044240.png

Why can't we call it at a media level for what it is? The reporters in front of him can say it. The news outlets can print it. That's not a ceasefire.

Don't forget that the role of the president was setup to essentially be an elected monarch. There was even a push to have the address style of president be "Your majesty", until George Washington pushed back and went with Mr. President.

A great BBC2 programme by Lucy Worsley the other night on the 250th anniversary of American independence and how ironic it was that France and Spain which were both Monarchies teamed up against Britain in support of the would be new Republic.

The enemy of my enemy and all that.

Ireland got involved and got an exemption from the taffifs in place against the then Colonies.

There were really serious riots (Gordon ) in London,George 3 drafted an abdication letter,Benjamin Franklin was the toast of France and England defended Jersey from a French attack.

All very new to me .

I don't think so. Any attempt to enact change is essentially doomed without either both parties or mass support from the American public.

The President may well have too much power but I think that said power is derived from the Constitution and so won't be changed any time soon.

Apparently voting is meaningless and unpatriotic.

    Who knew?

Note the way that he claims that they voted that way to deprive "him" of a victory. It's all about his glory

And he was so close to victory, after completely 100% obliterating Iran's military capabilities multiple times, he just needed one more to be sure. Using the RFK junior percentage formula, I estimate that Iran's military was 400% destroyed.

    How could Congress do this.

the US administration speaking from the ‘ FIVE’ Sides of it’s mouth!!!!!! Eg

    (1) Rubio ‘ letting on’ that he know nothing about it -

(2 Official America sending in that architect is a major psychological boost to Putin as it continues to legitimise him as one of ourselves. And keeps him in from being left out in the cold.

    (3) It would be a small symbolic example of the US being at least ‘neutral’ in this SMO but this is not the case

(4)A UN votes the US with most of the others would vote one way on a motion while Russia and its minority of its supporters would vote the other way . The same at the G 7 level and in other situations which the USand RU are members. But this ‘Davislike’ attendance flies in the face of the traditional reasons for this about face.

    (5) The EU, US and lots of other countries traditional dislike for Russia was based on , fear , facts, history, recent actions, etc, etc. . This has all changed in that Russia has now proven beyond doubt that it is to be EVEN MORE FEARED , etc. But TRauMP thinks otherwise

    t

Everlast, I think that you are into the Paralasis by Analysis mode. Trump’ a definition is very easily explained. It is based on the sentence comparison re the following. “ He eats, shoots and leaves’ as against “He eats shoots and leaves”. Please notice the difference the coma makes.

The same goes for “ceasefire” and “cease-fire”. Each of these are complete sentences a more refined version of this is “Cease” . “Fire”. Both of these are sentences in their own right.

What we do not know is which of these four words ( ie ceasefire, cease -fire, cease, fire) did Trump use and in what combination and to whom did he utter them . Eg He could have told one side to ‘cease ‘ and the other side to ‘fire’

You have got to Apply Trump ‘simple logic’ to the issue and not the trusted and tried western logic .
My apologies for being sooooooo pedantic but so few of us make any genuine attempt to xxplain where is he coming from
