Fox News presenter Steve Hilton is ahead about 2% over Xavier Becerra so far in the California gubernatorial race, with Steyer (a billionaire) in third place, Bianco ® on 11% and the other Democrats Mahan and Rep. Katie Porter in single digits. However its only 58% done, and as usual in California, which does not have electronic voting, its going to take a while before we know who will go through to the run off. I personally doubt a Republican can win it. Their combined vote is about 38%.

Having said that there are complaints about how the fire in the Pallisades was handled, though both parties blame each other. Some on the Left blame it on water privatisation in the 1990s which led to a billionaire family controlling much of the water in the area. Republicans on the other hand tend to blame how the Democrats are managing the forests. Forests are considered carbon-sinks by Climate Scientists because they absorb carbon dioxide for Photosynthesis.

Setback for Trump in Iowa where his preferred candidate for governor, Randy Feenstra, narrowly lost out to Zach Lahn. Lahn is associated with the MAHA (Make America Healthy Again) wing of MAGA. MAHA has clashed with the Trump administration over its embrace of pesticides and backed Lahn's message in favor of regenerative farming and against large agricultural corporations.

“I will take on the big ag cartels. I will break up their monopolies, and I will get Iowa farmers a fair deal," Lahn said in his victory speech late Tuesday.

Members of the MAHA movement, a diverse coalition of supporters of Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. with priorities ranging from ending vaccine mandates to promoting healthy soil and organic food, cheered the win as a sign their political message was resonating with voters.

So more tariffs are threatened, allegedly because of forced labour products creating an uneven playing field:

The US trade representative, Jamieson Greer, said: “The failure of our most important trading partners to address the importation of goods made with forced labor is unacceptable. This creates a dynamic where American workers are forced to compete globally on an unlevel playing field. We will no longer tolerate this disparity.”

Is Mr Greer aware of the hundreds of thousands of undocumented workers in the US agriculture sector and the effect on the playing field they have?

I presume that the US has really strict and effective measures against imports produced by forced labour, which are at least as strong as anything the EU has. Or is it par-for-the-course hypocracy?

I wonder what the forced-labour content is for German high-tech manufactured exports?

I only became aware today that Hilton is British, used to work for the Tories and was involved in the 'new Lab, new danger' demon-eyes poster before the 1997 GE. Hopefully his efforts in California will be as successful.😂

It would be funny (though it seems unlikely) if two Dems went through when all the votes are counted. I remember Fox News and others touting the 'revolutionary' possibility of two Republicans getting the first two slots, which is laughable now when you see their second candidate Bianco in fourth place on 11%.

Incidentally, Karen Bass did much better in the LA mayoral primary than the polls predicted, though she has to go into a run-off with some GOP 'reality TV' star (another one).

To be fair, I think those asleep gotcha moments are pretty weak. They guy seems to be resting his eyes. Granted if he suddenly jerked awake or had to be woken, but I don't see any of that. There is a raft of stuff he can be pulled over the coals for, doesn't need something like that, unless I am missing something.

Considering he was always calling Joe Biden "Sleepy Joe", seeing him doze off like that is something he can be pulled over the coals for, yes.

You don’t ‘rest’ your eyes when you’re the president of the US in a televised meeting. How can anyone act like that’s in any way normal?!

If I started doing that in work meetings id be expecting a tap on the shoulder from HR before long, and im a lot less important than the president of America 😵‍💫

Reminds me of that moment from The Crown where Anthony Eden falls asleep before a meeting and the Americans take note:

"That, gentlemen, is not just a sleeping man, it's a sad metaphor. The second-most powerful man in what was once the most powerful country on earth."

The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God.

Growing protests in Albania over Jared and Ivanka's luxury development. Concerns for the wildlife there, including seals and flamingos.

In whats been described a largely symbolic act, the House passed a War Powers Resolution Bill by 215 to 208 votes. The House also passed a motion that would unlock a vote on sending aid to Ukraine. One of the Republicans who voted for the resolution was Thomas Massie. I've no doubt Trump will praise him in his inimitable manner.

Yeah, it's a no for me. His childish names for a previous president is part of the reason the US is in this mess. The press/congress need to focus on the actual terrible stuff he is doing and has done.

Controversy over Trumps appointment of Bill Pulte, a real estate investor, as Director of National Intelligence. Theres a statute law 50 U.S.C. §3023), that says the DNI is expected to have extensive national security experience” and be able to coordinate intelligence across agencies like the CIA, NSA, and FBI. It's a Senate confirmed office but Trump has repeatedly appointed "acting" officials and used the Vacancies Act to appoint people who were confirmed for other positions.

Pulte is currently the director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) and the chairman of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac since 2025. Fannie Mae has $4.3 trillion in assets and is the largest company in the US. It is government sponsored but publicly traded. It was founder during the Great Depression to expand secondary mortgages.

The Federal National Mortgage Association (FNMA), commonly known as Fannie Mae, is a United States government-sponsored enterprise (GSE) that has been a publicly traded company since 1968. Founded in 1938 during the Great Depression as part of the New Deal,[2] the corporation was established to expand the secondary mortgage market. It does this by securitizing mortgage loans into mortgage-backed securities (MBS),[3] which allows lenders to reinvest their assets into additional lending. This process effectively increases the number of mortgage lenders by reducing reliance on local savings and loan associations (or "thrifts").[4] Its sister organization is the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (FHLMC), better known as Freddie Mac.

They do. But there is a large part of the US electorate who seem beyond their reach / not swayed by it. Long term that needs to change but that is a society wide cultural change needed.

Short term, this is the kinda stuff that could register with the voters who voted for Trump last time out.

You seem to be excusing Trump here. No question that the other stuff he does does more damage. However, him falling asleep, being generally low energy is EXACTLY what he said about previous presidents. So, **** him, he should be made fun of and all of his short comings pointed out.

So he hasn't been seen for seven days. Not like him missing a day of adoration.

He has a "press conference" yesterday as a proof of life. Didn't miss his opportunity to say that a female journalist doesn't smile enough.

She smiles plenty when she's not in the presence of a paedo protector.

Rumours were swirling that he had a stroke.

Where does Trump go now seeking federal funding for his ballroom after the Senate dropped his request for funding it from the Immigtation Bill?
