My GT line S is rwd. I'd assume with awd the range would be shorter due to dual motors

Its about 90bhp more, 320bhp v 230 or so in the RWD car. But plenty of power in any of them.

Range is impacted like in all AWD, look up EV database and youll see the different versions

The rwd would make up 90% or so of all EV6 I imagine

Once its good value and you dont need to max out the range often I'd go for it

You'll also most likely get some extra features that the rwd version doesn't have like heated rear seats, ventilated front seats and the better Meridian sound system.

It’s not standard and will impact range. Desire is relative, I would assume most people wouldn’t care, but I would see AWD as desirable, more power etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 74 ✭✭HouseEater

Just to note, it might be more difficult to insure the AWD version.

My dealer confirmed today that the ICCU warranty has been extended, I hadn't received any communication but asked today when I dropped my car for service.

Hi got a 2023 ev6 GT line AWD up the north 2 weeks ago, went up in the train and drove it back down .first time driving a ev..first time on the luas and about 30 years since i was on a train,it was a memorable day— the bloody range anxiety wasnt helped by car keeping on telling me i wont make it to my home. it actually said that and kept trying to route me off motorway to charge stations and turned on battery preconditioning at least once if not twice. i didnt know how to turn it off then, looking at guessometer and distance to home going level i said i better ease off the speed to 105 km/h from the 120km/h at about 3/4 way home but i had faith in my calculations of about the 5km/kw and made it home just after at 5% it told me it was reducing power but i didnt feel any reduction in power.

3hours 45 mins non stop drive as good bit of taffic on m1/m50 at 2.30pm on a saturday and 312km distance lashing rain for a good bit of journey and had 5% battery left from 100%.. well satisfied with it on motorways and its real range after that. i know i could get more out of it with a lighter foot and not playing around with sport mode ie AWD on constant

but i do have a few dislikes about it esp interior finish feel that bit in middle of back seat is shocking and steering wheel feel, im coming from a 17 y/o 8th gen 2.2 civic type s that just passed another nct last night as well

the brakes are very grabby in reverse and peddle bit jumpy in reverse but going forward there grand

but paying zero/VRT customs /vat yesterday, im still smiling and i wont mention the 11 euro 20 cent to vrt for the tire fund thing..

But onto why i came on here, 3 questions

1 i signed upto kia charge advance yesterday and have kia connect as does herself but how do we link both our kia connect apps/phones to the 1 kia charge account as dont want to be paying the monthly 4.99 twice.ie on each phone app for the advance option

2 also the rear left door mood lighting not staying on, it lights up when the door is opened/closed for a split second or if i change colour in ambient lights section, anyone have this ?

3 insurance on my second car as i want to keep the civic. ??? who how to get it ??

aviva whom im with for decades wont cover me ,i was shocked esp with there

multi car policy advertising thing of upto 5 cars in a household. we have 2 cars the caravan and house with them and i thought it be no problem taking out another policy but no as i dont have a no claims discount as mine is tied/used on my first car policy.

im a named driver on herselfs policy on her car for years as well but that doesnt matter. its not the price of the quote its they wont quote me for 2 cars in my name so who will insure me on a second car in my name

"the brakes are very grabby in reverse and peddle bit jumpy in reverse but going forward there grand"

Make sure autohold is off when reversing.

You’ll struggle to insure a 2nd car in Ireland at a reasonable cost. It would make more sense to sell the Civic and move on. If it’s a sentimental thing, declare it off the road, store it until it’s 20th birthday and then insure it on a classic car policy.

Advertising….. A policy that’s extortionately priced but available.
A motor trade policy is an option but often not cheap either and you could be on shaky ground if you’re not really involved in the motor trade.

I'm naive here, can only drive one car at a time. Why on earth would insuring two cars be a problem?

Fairly sure Unkel and ELM327 always have multiple cars on the go.

bushman paddy so was i. im probally with aviva over 35 years from the norwich union days. ive had my car and camervan insured not so long ago with them, ok the campervan was through a broker but aviva was the insurer and both in my name as main driver

i want to keep the civic as ive her 13 years and do all the maintance on her and fresh nct and incase the iccu goes POP again on the ev6 .car had the iccu replaced at only 25,000 miles and it had the updates before that its now 47,000 miles , and we want to keep our other car a bmw 5series f11 tourer as its great for pulling the caravan with 8 speed steptronic transmission,it knows when trailer attached and changed gear ratio for trailer also dogs in back and roof box on it but ill try the ev6 for shorter trip caravan breaks away, i got the genuine kia wiring harness for the towbar when i bought the car from kia as i read it senses a trailer as well and a trailer option comes up in infotainment system asking small medium or large trailer ?? have any of yea see/used this. the genuine trailer wiring harness is a ECS wiring harness if anyone is interested, very popular aftermarket wiring harnesses , ECS is printed on a label next to kia genuine part

anyone know about 2 users using same kia charge account using the kia connect app ?? i know when the rf card is delivered herself can use that but until then and even after then the apps might be handier to use

To add reason i went with AWD verion was towing the caravan and also didnt pick a gt line s was because of 20 inch wheels with less range so not to add to the AWD loss of range and the sunroof in the S line as your not meant to use a roofbox and hope the roofbox will actually help in towing the caravan and work to deflect wind around and over caravan a bit like deflectors on cabs of trucks for trailer.

Can you not just transfer insurance online yourself if required ?

Re app have you tried the vehicle sharing option?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 173 ✭✭yammagamma

you can only temp transfer insurance 3 times a year but i was told the other car not meant to be owned by you,

the app is setup as vehicle sharing already , we both can use seperape apps on our phones its just kia charge only showing on my phone connect app

This may have been asked before, do we need to pay a subscription for the app to be able to connect to the car?

Mine has stopped connecting and I see there is an option now to buy a Kia Connect subscription through the app.

Extended yes, but wouldn't it be far far better if the problem was solved. It hasn't been and it's a pretty serious concern for anyone considering buying a Kia or Hyundai EV. Some VW's have the problem as well and no one's doing anything about the ICCU issue. Buyer be warned!

I don't think so, I believe it's supposed to revert to a lite?

At least our Hyundai Inster reverted to a lite plan which still provides updates on the app, but doesn't allow remote control.

It's the same backend for both apps.

Kia/Hyundai are saying that the ICCU issue is now sorted on the latest models.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 297 ✭✭cromelex

Of course. But it basically means they are owning up to the problem, and will fix it it happens. It's a big concern, and definitely a major pain in the arse, but it's not happening on every car.

It's free for 7 years. If is stopped working you need to go into the car and go to General / Kia Connect / Reconfigure. I've had to do it a few times.

"Sell" the civic to your wife if she is with Aviva for years and has a NCB?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 173 ✭✭yammagamma

""Sell" the civic to your wife if she is with Aviva for years and has a NCB?"

is the vehicle owned by you or wife/husband/partner is a question you have to answer .

back to the ev6 as this is the thread for this and i know i said about the insurance but others might want to keep other car with a ev

trying to update software/nav having problems,

i downloaded the update using the kia nav updater prog to the temp file on pc in windows as of course they dont have 1 for linux which i use mainly, i transferred it over to a SD card in a usb card reader as prog said you can use those within the nav updater prog no problems, the updater prog recognised the sd/usb a sandisk extreme sdxc1 64gb card with sandisk mobilemate usb3 reader but the car does nothing when i put it into the usb slot, even when i go into the updater menu, update is still faded out

i bought a new usb pen /thumb drive "integral turbo c portable ssd/ussd 256gb" but that is not even recognised by the updater prog to transfer the files over to it so i manually coppied and pasted the 5 files that were in temp folder from download on pc over to root of the integral usb stick but car does nothing again. ive let the updater prog format devices both times .

so need to get another usb stick and try again just incase others are having same problems

Are you using the right USB A port in the car, yes? I use a micro SDHC card, 64gb (spare from my camera) and use a ugreen sdcard reader to connect it to the car and that works.

Also check the file system requirements. You might have card/stick formatted with, say, NTFS but car may need FAT/FAT32/exFAT/other for that media to be readable by software update mechanism
