I think we are a long way down the line with the Fernandes transfer. Can see Arsenal making a move for Tonali and Scott going to the Scouse.

If that's the case who could we sign because I don't think Baleba is the answer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 233 ✭✭MercuryBoy

According to the Guardian: "Tchouaméni and Wharton among other targets"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,965 ✭✭✭Hodors Appletart

The way Mitten was talking about Tchouameni a few weeks ago on the TOTD pod was a bit weird.

No idea, but I really hope we get Fernandes.

I hope we stay away from Baleba and Wharton is not mobile enough beside Mainoo.

Maybe Wharton is seen as cover/ competition for Mainoo?

So a first XI pair of Fernandes and Mainoo. Ederson and Wharton as back up

I really hope we forget Tchoumeni and Anderson, and just go sort out deals for Scott and Fernandes asap.

I think if Liverpool go for Scott they get him, but we can beat anyone else to him.

I think PSG are the competition for Fernandes, but I think we are putting up a fight and trying to get it done before they become active.

Don't shoot me and I know he has been out of form a bit last season, but Camavinga seems to be out of favour at RM. Would he be worth considering if he could be got on a loan to buy option. He could cover both CM and LB [ obivously still go for Lewis Hall or Truffet as no 1 LB ]. If he could be got for 35-40 mill then he could be good value and free some monies up for a second striker

Ederson, Fernandes, Hall, Mateta, Camavinga, would this strengthen us enough for top 4 and a decent CL run ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 49,513 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

    It should do.
I expect top 4 to be difficult. and I think we could look at CB, RB and LW as squad quality issues despite that window - but I don't think it reasonable to expect bettwe than the window you have outlined and some weaknesses in the squad (or first 11) will need to be 'accepted', to a degree.

    Lammens/Heaton?
    Dalot/Mazraoui
    Maguire/Yoro
    Martinez/Heaven
    Hall/Shaw
    Camavinga/Ederson
    Mainoo/Fernandez
    Bruno/Mount
    Mbeumo/Amad
    Cunha/Dorgu
    Sesko/Mateta

That first 11 should be able to compete with anyone, imo. Other sides can be better, but that is competitive imo. Maguire and Martinez would be where my worry would be, as a pair.

Ya I think CB is an issue as well. Between Maguire, MDL & Martinez I think none of them guaranteed to be a main CB for a full season. Then Yoro's form and Heaven's inexperience just further highlights that we don't have a settled / dominant CB pairing

I think we need to hold Yoro and Heaven, but replace one of the other 3 with a top CB

I don't see Wharton joining to act as cover/competition with someone he's competing with for a place in the England squad.

See a lot of talk about Lewis Hall for huge money.

He had 1 assist in the league last season from what I see online.

We need someone who can get forward and exploit the space Cunha leaves when going inside.

I don't see why Dorgu can't do that.

I don't know how to explain this to you without me coming across as an absolute mark for "ITK" people - but I think Mitten hears and is told things off the record, that he then hints at on the pod, I further think he is given bits of information that some people don't mind him "hinting" at, and he's been mentioning a "Real Madrid midfielder" for a while, then outright said yeah it's Tchouameni (I can't remember which episode it was, but maybe 6 or 7 weeks ago)

I don't think Mitten does it for "clout" he just knows things and knows when he can or can't talk about them. I get some people dislike him, but I don't mind him, and respect his background in the Fanzine scene, having written for fanzines myself in the past

Mitten absolutely knows more than he can openly talk about. I think he does his best to drop hints where possible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 49,513 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

I'd believe we have serious interest in Tchoumeni.

I just don't believe Madrid will be desperate to sell him or Tchoumeni desperate to leave.

I think he would come if Madrid accepted a bid and told him to leave, but I don't think we will force that situation.

I dont see the reason to sign a starting CB for next season.

Yoro has been shaky but I expect him to turn it around.

Heaven has looked rash at times but looks a good prospect and his passing ability is a huge positive.

We are going to have to bite the bullet at some stage and take a chance on Heaven, no point him sitting on the bench for a season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,528 ✭✭✭NITRO95

Fully agree. We have 5 senior CBs right now plus Shaw & Maz who can fill in if needed in a crisis. Thats 7 PL & CL squad positions filled with guys that can play CB. At some point you need to give lads like Yoro and Heaven a chance to establish themselves and prove they can be first choice CB for the club.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,788 ✭✭✭IncognitoMan

Yeah Mitten knows more than we do 100%
He is in constant communication with people around the club and seems to be liked in general.

I would trust when he says something that it has some truth to it.

Yes an issue alright, but maybe on loan if finances were getting tight

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,202 ✭✭✭Robson99

Agree re Yoro & Heaven. The problem is the other 3 and their availability, plus Maguire is 33. Shaw and Maz should not be considered as CB options in a back 4

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,528 ✭✭✭NITRO95

They are break glass in case of emergency options. Same way Carrick himself played CB a couple of times. If 4 of the 5 lads are injured or suspended then Shaw or Maz could do a job for a game.

Where'd you get the serious interest in him belief from out of curiosity?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 49,513 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

    All the briefs.

It wasn't just Mitten saying tchoumeni, loads of journos said it at the same time.

I believe the interest is real, I just dont think it happens.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,879 ✭✭✭caviardreams

Ederson and Fernandes would be an excellent start and a massive boost.

35m these days for any kind of player is relatively cheap. If we go for younger guys like Fernandes / Scott along with Mainoo, good to have somebody with a few more years experience like Ederson too imo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,926 ✭✭✭ericzeking

Plus there is a lot of wages tied up in that centre back list. We're keeping Maguire, no one will buy De Ligt in his current state so realistically the only one you could offload is Martinez, I don't think many would like that, when fit he's probably one of our best players in the whole squad.

So if you don't sell any, I don't see any world where you are paying 6 first team centre backs. INEOS are all about the books making sense.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,387 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

DeLigt is the odd man odd now, could see him loaned out.

I think Martinez is the one who could lose out going forward depending on what other middle of the park players we sign. You wont get by in the PL with just say Maguire and Sesko as your aerial defence / attack on set pieces. Casemiro is a huge loss in this dept. This is why I think Tchouameni is a must to get in. Otherwise Heaven should be our first choice LCB
