September I'm not holding my breath for being called on this one anymore summer months are usually slow.

There doesn't seem to be any transparency, accountability or governance in respect of these competitions overseen by public jobs. Having observed how this whole process works for many years, I am very surprised that Public Jobs are not summoned by the Public Accounts Committee to account for themselves To me, it has always appeared a bit of a cloak and dagger process. Any process that is not fully transparent should be of concern to all.

Any process that is not fully transparent should be of concern to all.

    What isn't transparent?

You submit your documents, you sit the test, you're given an OOM, your documents are reviewed based on your OOM and you're reranked, you're invited for an interview based on your OOM and reranked. Jobs are then given out based on your final order. You're informed of the output at every stage and can pretty much appeal each stage.

Its incredibly onerous and an attempt at providing objective criteria. Apply for the job in the private sector, there's zero transparency because there's no requirement for there to be.

yeah I just got the emails in work. I'm on the 2.2 panels, I was told last week that there are five people ahead of me but that they're not processing any vacancies at the moment.

I wonder what that means. I can't remember; are the panels valid for a year after they're formed, or for the lifetime of the competition, i.e. September in the case of this 2024 comp? I might have to throw in another application 😅

Agree 100% it's a long process, and quite dishearting when your waiting but it's fairly straight forward there's steps and a process they follow. Much more transparency than private sector or even most posts in the public side of the sector.

Anyone here from batch 2.2? Last I heard they had reached 11 on the 2.2 interdepartmental. I'm beginning to worry the panel might expire; I know someone that happened to before.

I emailed publicjobs today; confirmed panel is live until September, said demand led so cannot predict, told me to apply for new comp if I want to be sure!

Hi all, I am just curious whether a candidate in CS generally has a better chance applying through the interdepartmental stream rather than the open competition for APO? Or does it mainly depend on the number of vacancies and the order of merit in each stream?

Has anyone ever purchased online packages for the online tests to practice?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,156 ✭✭✭bren2001

    I purchased https://www.jobtestprep.co.uk/

I'd highly recommend it. Maths and Verbal Reasoning were very similar. Situational Judgement was different but I learned their way of thinking which gave me a thought process for the actual test.

Can't purchase it until after the company running the tests is announced.

I was 2nd on a regional panel after interview and the General Info booklet from the 2026 comp states that 2 appointments were made from the 2024 panel. I am still on the panel and currently first after the person ahead was appointed, so struggling to understand the maths here!

Could it be one from the open and one from the interdepartmental?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5 its_a_waiting_game

That must be it. I was on open and not 100% sure how those two panels interact.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 570 ✭✭✭skidmarkoner

Where are you seeing previous appointments? I can't see it?

Additional document 2: general information, on the 2026 comp page.

I've begun clearance from batch 2.2 from 2024 comp, interd. I took it; won't wait for open offer. Good luck to everyone else to get in before September!!

Congratulations. Absolutely, at this stage take the offer! Time is running out for the 2024.

Does anyone happen to know where the Open is at in terms of batch etc? I am batch 3, but don't have much hope.

Is there a difference between the positions offered on the interd or open comp?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 50 ✭✭the5th

No. It just depends on which departments "owe" their vacancies to which panel at any given point.

Sometimes people who are on both panels decline the offer they receive first, if they don't like it or it doesn't suit them, and hope that the second offer will be better. I'm not doing that

Interview invites going out for Dublin open batch 3.1! Might be a glimmer of hope yet. Good luck everyone.

How did they contact you? Via email?

Can I ask what your initial OOM was after the initial assessment? I was expecting to be invited to the next round based on the most recent OOM posted on this thread (I should be in the next handful of candidates) but also wary that a new comp was announced that they are probably winding this one down, so I had given up hopes of getting something from this panel tbh.

My initial OOM was mid-400s. Last I heard they were shortlisting application forms up to OOM 526 for Dublin (open).

just wondering, has anyone that was called to interview from batch 3 received their topics yet? Pressume they will email them to us. They didn’t update the stage 3 information pack as it states they will be issued via the message board

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26 brenyes

oh wow. If they’re shortlisting into the 520s I’m just a few off. Fingers crossed. I did really well in the maths and verbal tests but poorly in the situational judgement. That’s an interesting one because I felt they should have included all three. There’s in some ways a bias towards people who “get it” in terms of civil service culture and methodology but that’s a positive and a negative in any leadership role

I scored in the top 30 for a midlands location and haven't heard a word.
