Didn’t see any post match, what were his comments if you don’t mind?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,002 ✭✭✭RichieRich_89

I think Penny should be just about overtaking van der Flier, although I'd be surprised to actually see it.

Delighted for Lowe to break the record. Well deserved. What a player.

Didn't get to see any of that on URC.tv, stream ended about two minutes after the final whistle 🙄

    I'm partial to your abracadabra
I'm raptured by the joy of it all

He was asked about about having options at half-back without necessarily having a clear pairing (like a Lucu and Jallibert partnership).

He mentioned about things not being the same for French clubs who are privately owned. I guess it's about not being able to play the same players week-in week-out because there's a different system in Ireland.

Congrats to Leinster, great to have an Irish interest left in the playoffs.

One word of caution, Lions didn’t put the kind of pressure on that Stormers could.

    Home advantage should help.

Glasgow and Bulls both probably better than Stormers though, so the draw is favourable.

Bulls might do ye a favour and beat Glasgow for Leinster to have a home final.

No sasha FM will be a huge bonus to leinster

Sasch Feinberg was on crutches after the Cardiff. Possible doubt for next week

I’m sure we’re supposed to say things like “we want to test ourselves against the best” but we’ll take any luck that is going.
SFM injury is reported as “pretty serious” so doesn’t sound like he’ll be travelling

    SFM - ankle

    Dan du Plessis - Knee

    Seabello Senatla - RTTP

Ruben Van Heerden - RTTP ?

Very happy with last night. Lots of good performances. Everything runs more smoothly when the forwards get on top.

I was struck by a few examples of home advantage. The Clarkson pile driver, Sheehan's jump and Porter's high tackle are the kind of things that can go against you away from home. If Leinster were away from home, we could easily be discussing the Clarkson red card and penalties or yellows for Porter and Sheehan. Worth counting your blessings when the ref goes your way.

The reaction online to Clarksons moment of idiocy is just silly. It wasn't a piledriver and wasn't anything more than a yellow.

A red, letter of the law included, would have been ridiculous.

Yeah it was bizarre, no force in it, but kind of has to be a yellow because the player lands on his head. The red card take to me would be very harsh.

Back a few years ago when they pretty much gave red for any lifting tackle where the player went beyond horizontal it would have been red. But by today's interpretation yellow is about right. He'd have been lucky to get away with just a penalty.

The Sheehan jump could well have gone the other way. To me it looked as if the jump was more to evade the tackle than to get the ball.

Lowe scoring his record breaking try.

It was actually better that he had to work for it a bit. That is the kind of score he has been so good at

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,376 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

Ah lads, we have to keep Lowe somehow. Even if he is past his best, there's no better try scorer in Irish rugby.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,573 ✭✭✭Blut2

Hes a winger about to turn 34, who played 7 games for Leinster this season.

Unless hes willing to play for very little money hes just not a good use of limited funds. Mid 30s wingers who rarely play are not a good investment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,070 ✭✭✭✭El_Duderino 09

In This case, it really is up to the IRFU to pay most of his wages since he'll play most of his games for Ireland next year.

If the IRFU decide not to pay enough to keep him, then that's their decision. I won't get upset either way. Both keeping him and letting him go carry risks and benefits.

    Very fair comment.

John Barclay (I think) made the point last night on PS that James Lowe has played 100 times for Leinster in 9 seasons. That's averaging 11 games a season.

He has 45 caps for Ireland across 6 seasons which is 7.5 games.

The IRFU are main stakeholder here, moreso than Leinster.

Might well be Farrell's call, Leo would have to consult Humphreys as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,002 ✭✭✭RichieRich_89

There seem to be a few murmerings that Leinster are looking to get Kok in. He'd be a replacement for Lowe in terms of bringing the infectious enthusiasm and commitment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,383 ✭✭✭Paddy_Mag

Kok makes sense in that he will be available all season long

Similar hair-length too, perhaps if he could dye it, some people might not even notice the difference. (Sorry for the terrible joke!)

Surely there's a D4 business that can step in in return for ads & promotions to cover the delta.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,070 ✭✭✭✭El_Duderino 09

Yes given his age and injury profiles, and it being a world cup year, I'd say his Leinster minutes will be fairly limited this year. Plus the summer and autumn internationals are part of the Nations Championship this year which means there won't be much scope to rest players in the summer or Autumn.

I'm surprised there hasn't been more chat about the Nations Championship.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,906 ✭✭✭Dave_The_Sheep

I would very much like if we could stop with the South Africans.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,288 ✭✭✭ironingbored

Apropos of nothing, Toulon are currently 24-22 up against UBB with 1 min left. Ref is penalising UBB at the breakdown.

    FT 27-22.

UBB in 6th and could be overtaken by Clermont/R92 who play tonight.

UBB vs Clermont next week in what could be a winner takes all to make les barrages.

Will Lowe even be eligible for Ireland going forward without a contract at Leinster? Despite likely not being first choice going forward, just seems a bizarre choice to limit potential options a year out from the WC. It's not like our wingers are blessed with good fortune and health at the best of times.
