I think someone said Michael Cahill is the new station/program director? if so i cant see them changing much other than letting Tracey and Cormac put their own individual touches on the overall music presentation but not alter the music itself.

if it keeps Michael Cahill Off Rte radio one it can only be a good thing

if it could keep him away from radio altogether it would be even better 😇

Don't diss "The Kid". I for one would welcome some "Cliff Bangers" on a Friday from 12 to 1.

    This too shall pass.

I've no knowledge of Tracey Clifford whatsoever. Never heard of her until talk of her coming to Gold.
It'll be nice to have someone on between 10 and 1 though, makes a big difference.

Can’t wait to here the Top 10 at 10 again

Tracy Clifford started on pirate radio. She got her first big break in licensed radio on Dublin's youth station Spin1038 and then she moved a few years ago to 2FM.

Of the current RTE Gold line up, there are 5 presenters who have never presented on 2FM.

Eric moore, Carol moran, Erik threlfall and Al dunne have all been on other RTE radio stations, except John connolly who has been on none.

Wonder would either Cormac Battle or Tracy Clifford get a Rick O'Shea type deal of developing a more niche weekend pre-recorded show.

The Gold Lounge was an interesting idea.

There could be a 90’s show from one of them. We don’t need any more Dave Fanning type shows

I was happy with Tracy's first show today. To be honest, I wasn't sure how I'd feel about it because I always associated her with the 2FM "huns". Music was decent and she seems to know her stuff.

Early days but they really need some features as 6 hours of DJ’s with occasional what’s app comments isn’t exactly groundbreaking

if you think about it Tracy was the "last music DJ" ever to be on 2FMs weekday daytime schedule (currently 6am to 6pm).

the rest of them, or those who are there now during those hours, are influencers / social media types.

Carl Mullen was a media studies student. Did his time as a runner for Jenny and Nicky, then got the weekend breakfast gig and then got promoted to weekday breakfast. Doireann started out her radio career in Today FM before moving over, Aisling Bonner also worked over at Marconi house first. Mikey O'Reilly started at FM104, Laura Fox has been there for years. Every single person in 2fm has the right to be a member of society, that includes being allowed to use social media.

    This too shall pass.

I think you are missing the point I am making about being a music DJ on 2FM today.

Tracy was known for being a bona fide music DJ on daytime 2FM radio, the others were defintely not.

Yes, they simply play music as a filler on their shows and are more well known for having a large presence and followers on social media, rather than having music knowledge or supporting new and upcoming artists/bands/DJs, like Tracy did on 2FM.

Which RTE radio stations did Eric and Erik (!) turn up on? I know that Carol Moran was on Radio 1 and Al Dunne was on Millennium Radio (RTE's Dublin station that was around from March 1988 to May 1989).

John Connolly presents ABC to XTC on Saturday evenings. Seemingly, he is the only presenter on RTE Gold currently that has no previous RTE connection. He has been mentioned a number of times on this very thread (often by me!). I had a separate thread about his show:

Eric Moore was on RTE Pulse digital for a good few years and Erik Threlfall is a familiar voice on RTE Radio 1 (and the former RTE Radio 1 Extra on digital) doing continuity.

So they are playing stuff from the vinyl library now

is it the Tracy clifford show 'crate digging' one song feature you are referring to ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,556 ✭✭✭GSF

yes she posted a video on instagram of her in the underground vinyl library last week

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,298 ✭✭✭ford fiesta

Another Radio 1 female presenter made a similar video a few months ago., the insta generation of 'record lovers'.

I am always suspicious of these vinyl features on radio shows (a la on Radio Nova) that they aren't really playing them from a vinyl rip, because they just couldn't be bothered setting it up. who's going to notice and all that…

Does it really matter when play out is over a smart speaker or a phone that is probably compressing a lot of the audio anyway?

Listening to Tracey Clifford on Gold, can't help wondering how she went from playing current pop songs and then on Fridays, dance classics, to this. Who's in her slot now on 2fm?

If her 2fm show was on in a certain part of work I found things like Panic absolutely head wrecking. I didn't like her show but I did always turn it on at lunchtime on a Friday because the dance classics were good and would get that Friday feeling going. Some change to playing Another One Bites The Dust.....

if you are a DJ you have to play what the audience wants to hear

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,298 ✭✭✭ford fiesta

As I alluded to earlier in this or another thread - in this current radio climate and having job security, if Tracy was moved from RTE 2FM to RTE Lyric playing Mozart or Bach for 3 hours, I am sure she wouldn't leave RTE.

It is a (presenting) job at the end of the day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,556 ✭✭✭GSF

it’s always possible to like more than one type or decade of music

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,556 ✭✭✭GSF

It’s strange that Rte didn’t put out any press about the 2 new presenters. Nothing in radio today which I think is mainly PR releases
