I see you have a similar set of blips for yesterday morning, including generation above what one would expect from the charging curve.

    image.png

Was that because there was a little cloud perhaps, reflecting additional sunlight on the panels?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,856 ✭✭✭bullit_dodger

Could do a forced discharge at full whack for 30 mins at 4pm, and then you'd be able to capture a little more. tbf though, your only scratching out the last few kwh, but still, if your a geek like me….. :-)

Would that make any difference on a day like this, when his inverter is maxed out until 18:00?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7 AllTheNamesAreGone

could it be where I was changing the mode cause I didn't know what I was doing? No idea IIf there were cloud's

On a day like this where there is zero cloud, then all you can do is be emptying the battery on the upside of the power curve. I've an export schedule set for 09:00 to 11:00 to 11%. After 11:00, the inverter is maxed out and you've done all you can.

If there is intermittent cloud which would be more normal, then a forced discharge around 4pm like bd suggests would work by taking advantage of the dips to make some room.

Sorry, I might be in error there….most inverters actually have two inverters (internally), one for the battery and one for the PV. I was thinking that you export from the battery to the grid, that you could create storage space in the battery for additional solar to be invertered later in the day, but that wouldn't work I think as you'd still be limited by your 5.5kw limit.

    Sorry for the confusion.

Geez the weather has been superb this week.

    image.png

Perfect curves…rare that I don't get the odd cloud here or there. Tomorrow seems like more of the same according to the forecast for Dublin.

oddly, my generation has fallen for the last two days; sunday was 47.3kWh, then 46.8, and 46.6kWh today.

It's been progressively hotter and panel efficiency decreases above 25C.

Edit, Solis have just responded so I have my explanation now.

We have observed that the system firmware is outdated, and the grid code is currently set to EN50549. Kindly allow us to change the grid code to "ESB-Micro" as per the country standard.

    .…........

First time I've seen grid over voltage alarm in the 3 years since install. A quick search suggested too much power may have been going back to the grid in the neighbourhood ?

Im in a fairly new estate, I was the first to install, in the last year id say 20 of the 100 house has solar now.

I started charging the car to see if it helped and it did. To make sure it wasn't a coincidence I stopped the charger where you see the output dropping off again.

Stuck on the charger then for the evening and all was ok.

I raised a ticket with Solis to see if there is anything that needs to be done with the settings. Is there any point contacting the esb ?

i'm not sure if it was hotter yesterday than previous days; but i can see s thin coat of dust on the panels if you stand at the right angle looking at them. not sure if that'd make a blind bit of difference though.

For those of you in Dublin, here's what I got today (green), yesterday and the day before. Obviously the green isn't finished yet.

    image.png

Much to a muchness really between the days. Few clouds this morning and on the 25th in the afternoon, but tracking pretty much identical from 10am to now (2pm) for three days.

You can note an interesting side effect of clouds, when they come in….the production obviously drops, but when they leave, the panels can beat the output of when they are under complete blue skies for a few minutes. (the bit in green about 9am) Basically cause the panels are cooler.

Those with grid connected roof solar should pay attention to the reforms proposed in Germany. If you search for eeg reform prosumers in Google you will get a few German language results and an AI synopsis in English.

The amount you feed in will be restricted and there will be a 100 to 150 euro service charge.

Expect that to be the template followed by Ireland a few years later.

In that case you will be better off switching on immersion, running dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer and filling up battery in house and car.

i work with several germans, and they went flat out for solar a few years ago. my boss has i think 36 panels; another lad has 18, and the chap who married a farmer's daughter got 120 panels.

A colleague of mine owns a solar installation on a roof of a shed. He doesn't own the shed. It is an investment vehicle and once the subsidies run out it has limited profit earning potential but he will make a return on his investment.

Anyway, if get penalised for exporting can likely change an inverter setting to not export.

We are a long way away from that in my opinion but it makes sense to push people to use the electricity and store locally to use locally. the guys who installed my panels are so busy here they won't have to leave the county for work for the next couple of years. As soon as the FIT payment drops to a level I find to be insulting, I will bite the bullet and get a battery, it just wasn't in the budget when I maxed out getting panels.

This, if they started punishing people, it would backfire almost immediately.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,818 ✭✭✭Busman Paddy Lasty

I would 10x my battery. Not sure who it would backfire on, politicians or utility companies?

1412 kWh produced in May on my 14.9kw system of which 1354 KWH was exported

Hey folks does this look right to you?

    image.png

7Kw system. Dead south aspect, lovely sunshine this afternoon /evening, thought generation would be higher.

You're losing a bit to clipping once the battery gets full. But probably not more than 2-3 kWh

Very annoyed with myself, completely unprepared for the clear skies down south. I must have left 4 or 5 kWh behind me there today :(
